I liked Susan Shirk's book China: Fragile Superpower.

I'm not sure it will be relevant going forward. I'd probably stick with the fundamentals, any analysis will not be anticipating what will happen in the next few years.

I recommend finding a newer one that includes the situational judgement component. This is the one I used. It was mediocre but when I was searching over a year ago it was the only one I found that had the situational judgement section.
