Basics, bitches! Lots of basics.

  • I found this Soma wirefree bra and now I wear nothing else unless it's a special occasion. I even fall asleep wearing these, they are so comfortable.

  • I live in Old Navy vintage tees when I'm at home. I'm kind of an expert in pjs and these tops are the best. Super soft, don't shrink when dried on medium, and nice enough to throw a bra on and run errands in. The lighter colors can be sheer.

  • For plain regular t-shirts, I love the GAP favorites line in short-sleeve scoopneck, long-sleeve v-neck, and long-sleeve crew-neck. These shirts are nice and thick and also don't shrink when dried on medium.

  • I love the Bath and Body Works shea-infused socks. I buy a couple of pairs each year, and they keep my feet so warm while providing a little traction on the wooden floors. On really cold days I will wear them with my boots. I wash them with my regular clothes. While the stickies on the bottom will peel off eventually, none of them have gotten to the point that I decided to toss them, and I think I have been buying them for four years? During the winter holidays is usually when they have the best selection, usually with cute little animals!

  • Let's talk underwear. Almost every day, I wear 100% cotton Hanes bikinis. Sometimes I'll go crazy and wear a boyshort. But 100% cotton, always and forever.

  • For fancy/no-panty-line occasions, there's only one answer - the Hanky Panky retro lace thong. Expensive, yes. Worth it? Totally. The thong part is very comfortable, doesn't dig in the front OR back, and the best part is that the high rise of the stretch lace smooths out that little pooch I have in front. It doesn't creep, doesn't bunch, and sits well under tights, skirts, and dresses.

  • The Hanes Solutions Super Opaque Tight in Maximum Blackout Coverage is the best black tight I've found. It's the tight I wear in most of my fits, and while there is a little shine, there is no show-through at all.

  • I am a firm believer in the 'leggings are not pants, cover your butt' school of thought, so I have this high-low hem shirt and this tunic, both in black, to go with my collection of printed leggings. They are both loose-fit and drape very nicely.

  • While buying multiples of clothing isn't unusual for me, there's only one time I bought multiples of boots. I have the Franco Sarto Trooper boot in black, gray, and claret, a dark reddish-brown. The boots are so comfortable and sleek-looking. They go with everything, and the elastic in the back ensures a perfect fit for wider calves. They even have a wide-calf version, although my calves are 17' around and I could still wear the regular size.

  • As far as regular shoes go, I think we all know I'm a big fan of the Vans slip-on.

Also paging /u/melfinastarwind as well :D A lot of the things I save are a little more goth ninja or cyber-y at best, but there are also lots of ruffles and lace in these stores!

  1. PattyBoutik! Their stuff seems to be pretty well reviewed, adequatley priced, and really cute. I love their simple black tops as they feature a lot of different cuts. For example, I've been coveting this for ages.

  2. Ellazhu! Lots of pants (harem pants hnnnnng) but lots of tops sprinkled in there as well.

  3. WearAll!

  4. AllegraK! Tops, tops everywhere.

So that should get you started in that area of amazon shops. The real magic comes in when you're recommended products from other stores, which is a great way to branch out and explore more of them.

Some disclaimers I'd say about those Amazon shops though is that you really have to be picky with what you buy or accept that your stuff might not be very high quality, considering a lot of them come from Asia. However I've never really had a problem ordering from them, you just have to be sure to check the individual reviews of the products you want.

  • Drapey pants: I love any and all iterations of harem pants (for myself, I understand they are polarizing!) I have probably 10 pairs of varying skinniness/wideness/drop-crotchiness/balloonyness and I love them all. I have pairs that I wear with knee high boots, and pairs that I wear with ankle boots/sandals/heels.

  • Long shirts with some type of detail: Not quite tunic length, but longer than your average tee. I like twisted fronts, asymmetrical sleeves, cowlnecks. Anything with a soft drape that looks fluid.

  • Waterfall cardigans/shawls: Again with the soft drapes. I like layering lots of light pieces. Not a fan of covering up with an overcoat.

  • Basic deep scoopneck or U-neck tees: I have several from Everlane, which are my favorite in terms of material and fit. I also have some from Uniqlo but generally they don't feel as soft or flattering, though they're serviceable.

  • Plain tanks for layering under my drapier/more revealing shirts

  • Leggings/leggings pants: On the days I don't want to wear harem pants, I wear my Uniqlo Leggings Pants.

  • Simple jersey dresses with straight silhouette and asymmetry: Self explanatory.

  • Opaque black tights. These are awesome for all weather/boots because they have reinforced foot area so you don't need socks.

  • Knee high boots: Love both lace up boots and plain front boots

  • Ankle boots: Both heeled and flat/chunky

  • Dark and unusual jewelry: I tend to go more for geometric and "artsy" than traditionally gothic, like with crows or skulls. Generally if my dark and weird self likes a piece, and my traditional and chipper mother likes it as well, it's a perfect balance between unusual and pretty. Favorite Necklace from Museglass on Etsy. Favorite earrings which are same designer as the ones I have, but mine are much deeper in color, and skinnier in silhouette.

All of the above is all in black, some in shades of charcoal, a few white shirts, and that's the extent of my wardrobe diversity!

Lovely! BPAL seems more esoteric than regular companies, and that flavor is definitely something that draws me to them. I should probably have started with something easier, but the notes copy makes it that much more fun. In terms of consistency, that is definitely an issue that I haven't thought about yet!!

I went into this thinking that I loved amber notes because for years I've worn Nemat's Amber White thinking that was what "true amber essential oil" smelled like. Now I realize, no such thing, it's just a wonderful blend that evokes amber. And now I find that amber notes (and musk, a bit) turn to baby powder on me.

So I'm not trying to recreated Amber White (which is still available, though apparently it's diluted to the point that it sucks now), but find something that can be my signature scent. I've found a couple that I really love from BPAL, but they're all over the board in terms of categories: green herbal dirt with wine; grassy amber with leather (it works, though!); irish coffee and oak; martini; this Nag Champa one... I still have a mental block against florals, but I'm game apart from that!

I will definitely check out your reviews, as well as those other companies. I started by wanting to pick out a signature, goth-flavored scent, but now I'm getting really interested in learning notes. :)

Bad allergies + dad getting fired from his job + barely 6 hours of sleep = one very tired zombie in desperate need of coffee, cake, and cats to pet and cuddle with. :(

So, I've decided to use the birthday money my Aunt sent me to get started on the Battle Vest I'm making! I have patches and pins saved, and a shitton of ideas. But what I need help with is picking out the vest itself! What do you fine ladies and gentlemen prefer of these to go with my strega punk style?

More grey than black, but I like the hood and the price.

Not Denim at all, but again, it has a hood and a decent price!

I love the ragged look and big collar, but the price and "made in China" tag makes me unsure.

I love the length of this, and I can cut off the sleeves, but the collar is kind of tiny and the buttons will need to be replaced. Not to mention it's a bit more than I want to spend on something I'm gonna heavily modify.

This one's a really nice dark black, and I like the lines. But it's honestly pretty plain beyond that.

I'm trying really hard to not spend a lot on the vest itself (around $50 at most), but if anyone can recommend more options (or pick something from the list), I'd really appreciate the help!
