Let's start by saying car covers are a pain in the ass for daily use, the car has to be perfectly clean to prevent it from scratching and it just doesn't work that way unless the car is washed every couple of days.

Instead I'd just wash 1 or 2 times a week, and get a gallon-size of Meguiar's spray wax and Last Touch, because you know you'll be in a constant battle against certain elements, might as well stock up (and you save like 50% just buying in bulk this way). In fact I recommend checking out their entire detailer line because you're going to go through a lot of soaps, waxes, etc. Their gallon of shampoo plus for $20 is a great start. And you can find deals like 3-packs of their supreme shine towels for $6 as an amazon add-on item if you're a prime customer.

I just buy all their gallon sized stuff and then reuse my old bottles of spray wax, detailers spray, glass cleaner, wheel bottles, etc. Saves me lots of money, like the difference between $100 now or a couple hundred by next year. For instance their gallon size of glass cleaner is probably enough to set you straight on that for a few years, dilutes 10-1 with distilled water. That's 10 gallons of glass cleaner, put that in an old windex bottle and never run out!

Also the Chemical Guy's bucket kit https://www.amazon.com/Chemical-Guys-ACC_101-Detailing-Bucket/dp/B001U522GO was a pretty amazing deal and necessary if you're going to use coin-wash bays. However the mitt included is a bit rough, so instead I use a meguiar's microfiber mitt as its the softest I've found so far. The paint on this car is very soft so it's important to use the softest products possible on the paint.

An Invisible Glass Reach and Clean tool has worked out great for cleaning the interior glass and keeping it from fogging up. Great item to have. https://www.amazon.com/Invisible-Glass-Reach-Clean-95161/dp/B0017K69MA

And a bird poop tip, keep a plastic container with microfibers, a bottle of water, and a bottle of last touch / spray wax mix in the trunk or behind passenger seat. If a bird hits the car, just soak microfiber with water, apply for 30 seconds, and then clean with the detailer spray / spray wax.

To prevent corrosion, you're going to want to clean deep into the wheel wells and stuff with dedicated brushes and mitts, and then use an anti corrosion product (I ordered some ACF-50 spray recently, getting it in the mail today probably) https://www.amazon.com/Lear-Chemical-ACF50-Anti-Corrosion-Lubricant/dp/B000P1C8UO . You're going to want to check crevices for salt buildup, it can happen on some of the window trim parts, so it might be necessary to remove them and clean them out if it starts to rust underneath. You might want to use dabs of silicone stuff to prevent water and salt from corroding these spots. There are a few posts about corrosion of FT86club forums so read up on them. Also your cabin air filter, leaves and bugs like to get in your cabin air filter and make things nasty. You can easily check / service this yourself, its behind the glove box.

For maintenance, I would NOT go past 5000 miles on an oil change, and be choosy where you take your oil changes. The car likes running on fresh oil period. Buy a 5 pack of oem oil filters and oem crush washers to keep yourself straight for awhile, saves money and time. Or also a fumoto oil valve can save even more effort, as a DIY'er it made my oil changes the easiest thing to do. Check your tire pressure constantly, because a decrease in pressure will make the car drive like crap and will wear your tires out quickly.

Your 60k mile maintenance or therabouts is an important interval. Needs stuff done like spark plug changes, and probably checking the clutch throwout bearing to see if it has become worn. These are expensive and labor intensive, expect a $1000 bill.

I installed this one on my car: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01I6LP464/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

I haven't tried OBDII on it, but I'm pretty sure they support it. Reverse camera works well, and works even before the unit finishes booting. Below is the summary of my experience.

Performance:

The unit performs pretty well and has decent a decent DAC/amplifier. I believe they have a 24bit DAC in it, and I haven't run into issues with the amplifier. It boots in the typical 25-30s, which seems like a while (and it is), but it's usually done booting by the time my garage door finishes closing. The unit may have some lag or touch issues once it first boots up, but in general it's pretty snappy.

For maps, I used Sygic, and it works well for offline maps and navigation. I tried other solutions before by Sygics was the best solution I found. Google maps is too limited in what you can download, and some apps just flat out don't work in landscape. Sygic let's me download anything I want, and the interface is pretty good.

Installation:

The install was pretty easy, and it turned out okay, but it wasn't perfect by any means.

This unit does NOT require an adapter as it is already 10mm wider than the standard double DIN (just like the OEM unit). Most wires were plug and play, but I had to splice wires for the remote amp turn on and reverse camera signals. You will also need an adapter for the antenna.

The final finish is pretty good, but the unit is shallower than the OEM unit. As a consequence, the back side of the silver trim was pushing on the head unit; you can't push the trim all the way in, and the head unit's trim won't be flush with the glove compartment's trim. The solution, which may seem scary, is to sand down the part of the trim that you can't see. Once the trim is no longer pushing on the head unit, everything will install flush, and no one will be the wiser.

  1. it's a joying unit but they don't sell it anymore apparently. Seicane sells one like it that I'm getting next because it's more powerful, I linked to it in another comment. The controller is a gamesir gs3.

  2. the unit was just under 300 and the controller is about 30-40.

  3. it's running a custom OS made for it that I haven't messed with. It's Android lollipop but it's got some extras that make it better for a head unit like the software for the backup cam. I used nice Nova launcher to get that look though, the regular home application was garbage.

  4. that's a complicated question, but to make it simple it's just like modding the PC version. Each car took a fair amount of work on my part in a 3d modeler and editing game code to be just right. If you want a zip of just the dealership and cars inside I can zip that up with instructions.

  5. the head unit WAS on Amazon but is no longer and the game controller is still up there. I did just find this though and it seems nice, I might get this one as my next one, still undecided.

PS thanks I thought it was a nice touch when I was working on it, makes it feel like some special but almost oem thing. Like a special edition of gtasa with Toyota product placement was my idea. Yeah it's hard finding games with the twins, I'm bummed real racing 3 doesn't have it because that's my favorite Android racing game it's amazing. If I could mod that I would.

Not a prob. I think they're all pretty much the same formula but this is the popular one. Great stuff

Black Housing Brake Streak Signal LED Tail Light Unit Scion Frs/Subaru Brz

http://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Housing-Streak-Signal-Subaru/dp/B00XRBVZOE

I feel like they should have an actual name and if anyone can find me an actual link apart from amazon I'd love to know. But I got mine off amazon for like 220ish.

Just picked this one up today: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AMGFY5M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Pretty sleek, slides on the AC vent, I put mine on the middle passenger side angled towards me so it's like I'm looking at the radio. Magnets are incredibly strong. didn't fall on the biggest bump in my city or potholes. Black hides with the interior nicely.

I upgraded my door speakers and disconnected the rears. I don't know why people are telling you that. The stock speaker mounts are perfect for using 6.5 speakers. All you have to do is clip out the stock speakers, drill holes in the stock speaker mount and screw your 6.5" speakers in. Here is a picture of my install.

I installed a pair of Infinity Kappa's and amped them with a rockford fosgate P300X2. They sound great. Highs are amazing. Bass is lacking, but that is what a sub is for.

u/battlerobot · 1 pointr/ft86

Are you talking about the adapter for the headunit? When I did the install on my sister's FR-S I used this harness https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KWLA3T0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
But I've also heard good things about SVXDC http://ae64.com/
who is very popular on NASIOC

I have this one from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/WHDZ-Repair-Damage-Removal-Hammer/dp/B01H88XOOK/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=pdr%2Btools&qid=1551303667&s=gateway&sr=8-6&th=1

In your case, I think you just might need the dent puller tool instead :https://www.amazon.com/Super-PDR-Bridge-Puller-Removal/dp/B07B9ZLG1D/ref=sr_1_4_sspa?keywords=pdr+tools&qid=1551303850&s=gateway&sr=8-4-spons&psc=1

If you can find some old car that has dents on it, I recommend you practice on it if you plan to use the little dent pushers. Watch some videos as well on PDR tools too.

Amazon. My friend has gone through 4 bumpers and there is a seller on amazon that is legit. I'll try and find the link for you

Edit: here is the link

u/scuba_steve94 · 1 pointr/ft86

Didn't know there was more than one? Lol, this one.

I don't think I cut any cables.. How do I turn the 2nd overlay off? I have to make the cables connect right?

u/funbob · 2 pointsr/ft86

Absolutely you want to start taking care of it properly it right away, start with a with a high quality, non greasy UV protectant spray.

u/redditisbadforme · 3 pointsr/ft86

I just bought one of these and put it together last weekend. I bought this adapter off (and the camera) Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KWLA3T0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The camera's field of view is a little weird. Installed on the recommended spot, I have trouble seeing all of my right side. It's still great though, and you should be using your mirrors anyways.

It was a long day, but I'll try to get all the steps:

  1. Pressure wash rinse
  2. Foam Cannon with this soap: Meguiar's D11101 Shampoo Plus, 1 Gallon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EZICII/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_oxzpDb7HHDC15
  3. Rinse soap with pressure washer
  4. Foam Cannon a second time
  5. Hand wash
  6. Rinse with pressure washer
  7. Clay bar entire car using this as lubricant for claybar: Meguiar's A3332 Quik Detailer Mist & Wipe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009IQXAE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_TzzpDbE2QMHHC
  8. Pressure wash rinse.
  9. Mist car if necessary to make whole thing wet again
  10. Hand dry
  11. Pull car into garage
  12. Use this soap for all black components (grill, fog light area, side mirrors, rear near exhaust, louvers): MEGUIAR'S D16001 All Season Dressing - 1 Gallon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006SH4NW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_xBzpDbQMV3FRF
  13. Using dual action buffer, apply this to whole car (then wipe off) : Meguiar's G17220 Ultimate Compound, 20 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06W5HCZ9M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_aEzpDbQP8ACGE
  14. After compound do the same with this: Meguiar's G19220 Ultimate Polish, 20 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X413M7J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_DEzpDbMMQPD91
  15. After the polish do the same with this: Meguiar'S Liquid Wax 16 Oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FVFF8ZK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_iFzpDbTP1418C
  16. Remove carpets and vaccuum
  17. Shampoo and vaccum footwells and carpets. (I forget what product we used but it wasn't meguiars lol)
  18. Apply the following to whole car by hand then wipe off: Meguiar's G18309 Ultimate Fast Finish, 8.5 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WP6PXT7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_QHzpDbPFJ8HMD
  19. Polished the exhaust with this: California Custom Purple Metal Polish 12 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004MNKM9A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_1IzpDbTHWF6B9

I feel obligated to say that I'm not associated with Meguiar's at all. I was doing all this with my brother who's a detailing enthusiast and he's a bit of a fan boy.

Also I don't have a ton of details on the rest of the interior because my brother started that before I arrived.

All in all it was about 5 hours, with some time spent on the interior before I arrived we also spent some time fixing up some stuff like mounting the window louvres and making the exhaust hang even in the back.

The head unit in these things are garbage. Every time my android updated I had connection issues. After upgrading to oreo, it was even worse and IF it'd connect, I could not control the streaming of music from the head unit any more about 80% of the time.. and it stopped showing the artist/title/etc. I got fed up and bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076D5TVVX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For as cheap as it is, i did not have high hopes, but i no longer have connection issues, its a nicer screen that doesn't look like a kids v-tech toy, and amazingly sounds better.

u/sarangeddie · 5 pointsr/ft86

Here you go, friend. Long story short, I'm on my fourth bumper so I can tell you this seller is reliable. Go to your local paint shop and paint match. Should be done in a few days if you know some people.

u/AFewBricksShy · 1 pointr/ft86

I used this camera:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GQTYG3Q/
This bypass harness:
http://ae64.com/Rear-camera-16-pin.htm
and the installation instructions on this page:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32452

You'll still need to pull out your head unit and wire in the camera, as well as running a wire from your trunk all the way through to your head unit, including removing the rear seat, but it wasn't that bad to do. I think all told it took me a couple of hours.

u/papaguan · 1 pointr/ft86

I personally use this magnetic vent mount. I have it on the driver side vent above the head unit. When I have it mounted, I just put my phone in landscape mode so it doesn't block the head unit. I don't have any issues with the mount becoming wiggly and coming off the vent by itself (I've had my car since April and have just under 5000 miles on it).
