Well, there are not so many people who have a steady income from betting. And for everyone who is profiting in long term, there are thousands of others who are loosing regularly. Your chance to be profitable in long term is near zero and you will be better off not to place a single bet. Of course, it is your choice but I strongly recommend to study a little bit before. Search internet, learn how lines are set. You can try this book about betting. Its subtitle is "Who makes the most money and how?" And I can reveal to you that it is not the general public :)

The American Mensa Guide To Casino Gambling is one of my favorites. Friendly storytelling and a great mathematical approach to all the major casino games. I bring mine with me on every Vegas trip.

I would advise against doing it on your own. If you want to work for a financial firm, then a good place to start is the quantitative analyst interview, eg:

I would also recommend having a degree in a mathy STEM major, like physics, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, financial engineering, or maybe math (with an emphasis on stochastic processes).

Depends on what you want to know. Grosjean's books and blog posts are the best thing available. Nothing else comes close.

I think you'd like reading "The Eudaemonic Pie"

Some physicists/mathematicians back in the 70's tried to beat Roulette and it discusses their methods. Their method included dividing the wheel into octets and placing their bets on the numbers of the octet the computer (which they built into someone's shoe) predicted.

The method worked but limitations of technology kept the computer from working reliably.
