If you want to remain in that space there, I would recommend one of these two (the OSKAR stuff is a bit of a pain but the price and depth are good).

Displaying them all is pretty hard since the tendency to have a ton of them is pretty easy.

I bought about 10 of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0053OQO9O/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
for my gameboy games, each can hold a few dozen games, makes them look really nice and neat.

The binder idea gets thrown around a lot, but I didn't like it much for the following reasons:
1 - they fall out very easily. Very, very easily
2 - the weight of the games means that the only way to store the binder is to lie it down flat. You can't keep the binder upright or the pages sag and eventually they rip or the binder spin bends.

but most importantly: I feel like the way the games open up the slots would make it very, very, very easy for them to collect moisture. And that moisture would be right against the label.

Don't like the binder idea too much, unless someone were to specifically design binder sheets for gameboy games...

In that case go for a switch like this. Four composite/svideo inputs, no power supply required, and balls cheap.

Component switches seem to be pretty pricey, but there's this one from Monoprice that should be able to do you good for your Wii/PS2/Xbox. If you have a learning remote thingy (like a Harmony or whatever) then you can program it and stuff (though you'll probably still have to get up to toggle whatever system you're going to be playing...so..yea...).

You're going to be running into power issues with having all of your systems hooked up, thanks to the bulky ass bricks so many of them used. Don't be the jack off that daisy chains surge protectors and extension cables, just buy something with decently spaced out outlets like this.

I also recommend labeling the cables on both ends to save on headaches later. Label which switch/port it's going to on the side that connects to the system and label the side that connects to the switch with the name of the system. You don't need to buy Kableflags, but at the very least rig something up with scotch tape and a piece of paper. It's a little redundant, but it doesn't hurt to tape a small piece of paper to the back of the TV / top of the switch / under the switch / whatever with the current, complete configuration of your whole setup, too.

You know what modern day controller is excellent? The Logitech Cordless Action Controller for the PS2 and original Xbox. It had the most comfortable vibration and ergonomics I have come across. On top of that, the battery life was extremely long (I could easily get 100+ hours of gameplay out of a pair) and the wireless worked flawlessly.

If you are a PS2 or original Xbox aficionado these are must have periphs.

Edit: Apparently I am not the only one who thinks so, their prices have actually GONE UP since they were released. I'm glad I snagged a couple used ones from Gamestop back in the day when they were selling for about $15. If you buy a used one make sure it has the receiver with it or it will not work!

u/MongoloidEsquire · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

To open it you're going to need a 4.5 Screwdriver Security Bit commonly known as a gamebit. I bought the one linked and it worked fine for opening my N64.

Before opening it up though I would attempt to gently clean the contact with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. That usually does the trick for me. Even if it's busted, that's a pretty inexpensive cartridge and isn't incredibly difficult to find.

Good luck!

I do own a framemeister and it is great but before that i had [this] (https://www.amazon.com/KanexPro-Composite-S-Video-HDMI-Converter/dp/B06WP5MP12/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1518019492&sr=8-2&keywords=kanex+pro) and I didn't really notice any lag. I don't think any of the cheap converters do that great of a job upscaling to make it look a whole lot better but it does make older consoles work on tvs that dont support 240p like mine. I enjoyed playing my n64 and original playstation with this thing. I actually still need to sell the one I have. I have also used one of the cheap 20 dollar ones and that picture was pretty terrible.

u/alexh86 · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

I have a cheap four-port composite switcher and I'm going to get one more. Sometimes you see them in the $20 - $30 range but you definitely shouldn't spend over $13-ish including the cost of shipping. I have this, which has been unavailable on Amazon since shortly after I bought it. I think I paid $8 and had free shipping via Amazon Prime. I've seen the same one on eBay for as low as $10-$11 shipped so I'd look there, it's a great little box with full metal construction.

u/Goodwill_Gamer · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

I personally use a 3 ring binder with card pages. It works great.

For displaying them out in the open a popular option is the nail polish holder as they fit GB games perfectly.

u/Tigvee · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

the shelves are fine but there are models out there that aren't so deep and the height of each section better fits a dvd sized case. check out the prepac models... really good fit with adjustable shelving in case you collect for other retro consoles.

Umm...I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but:

  • NIB - FF8: $12.00
  • NIB - FF9: $12.00
  • NIB - FFA: $16.00
  • NIB - FFC: $15.00
  • NIB - FFO: $19.00

(From Amazon...there are cheaper options for all of the above through independent Amazon marketplace stores)

You fell victim to dealers overhyping rarity...which happens way too often to a lot of people, so nothing against you. It is the reason prices are so high on games that are just plain and simple not rare or monetarily valuable. I just wish more people armed themselves with knowledge and stopped letting dealers shaft customers so often.

The original release Halo and $7.00 for GH RE4 were pretty good deals though, kudos on those!

Edit: By numbered, you mean 7, 8, and 9? Do you have A, C, and O yet? I also notice that in your Backloggery, 7 is the only beaten one you have, which one is your next play through? n_n I love the PS Final Fantasies.
u/JapanCode · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

Well, this doesnt necessarily fit your price range but when you think about it, even though it's only one unit, it is the size of 3-4 units put together... but even so, I will post it in case someone in the future finds this post through the search feature; that's how I found out about it.

I have a Prepac BMA-1520, got it for just under 300$. This thing is the perfect depth for games, and is very adjustable; it came with 34 shelves, so you could potentially fill it with ds/3ds sized boxes without wasting any space. And of course you can even put figures on top of it (like just about any storage unit) so it looks really cool. Here's mine.

u/FaithOfOurFathers · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

well you got a few options. You could buy ps3 cases or buy universal game cases or you could find some old ps2 cases (whatever seems the best option for you). and then you can go to the http://www.thecoverproject.net/ and they will have all the covers to your games for you to print out (or get them professionally printed. I haven't done any of these yet, but I'm definitely going to and personally I think ps3 cases look really nice, but you gotta a bunch of options

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

I highly recommend this one. Its been working great for me and the best part of it is it has an automatic switch so when ever you turn a system on it will automatically switch to that system.

u/sylladextrous · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Thanks! I'm also on the hunt for large-capacity DS game card cases like this or this if you happen to have something like that that you'd be willing to part with :)

u/lopo87 · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

My television has 4 HDMI inputs, 1 composite input and 1 component input. I have the PS4, PSTV, PS3, Gamecube, Retro USB AVS and Xbox 360 using HDMI (Xbox 360 shares with PS3 and PSTV shares with PS4). I have the Xbox, Saturn, Genesis and SNES plugged into one of these using HD Retrovision cables: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002M5M9TQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And then I have the 3DO, Dreamcast, N64, and Wii plugged into this composite switch: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0154QWCM8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

Hope that helps!

u/corrosivescott · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

It’s been so long ago since I bought them. This is the 2nd one I’ve bought, the first one was better built than this one. But this one is fully customizable where the first one I got had 6 shelves that are permanent.

This link is to the 2nd one I bought (it is the one pictured here)
https://www.amazon.com/Prepac-Width-Storage-Cabinet-Black/dp/B001KW0BDI/ref=pd_sbs_196_6/141-2816934-2344453?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B001KW0BDI&pd_rd_r=5abea51f-6cf0-4288-9caf-9081204d74b3&pd_rd_w=f7MRJ&pd_rd_wg=jPutW&pf_rd_p=52b7592c-2dc9-4ac6-84d4-4bda6360045e&pf_rd_r=8WGM8HSZ4M32JA6AJECE&psc=1&refRID=8WGM8HSZ4M32JA6AJECE

Like I said above though it’s not as sturdy as the original one was, but I still love it and will buy it again when I get enough next gen games.

u/I_Gargled_Jarate · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Cool! I kinda like the ones that have turned yellow with age. You can open those with a 4.5 mm security bit screwdriver! If you don't have one you can buy one for like 6 bucks online Here's a link to amazon for ya.

u/Zero198 · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

Another redditor had suggested This and it's been a great switch box, it has s-video inputs on all of them so you can get great quality out of it.

u/tempusfudgeit · 6 pointsr/gamecollecting

I have this cheap one off amazon and it works pretty great. There's tons of reviews of people that use it with retro systems.

Just be warned, this sub and /r/retrogaming are filled with people drinking the framemeister kool aid who will tell you if you don't drop a grand on an upscaler and cables or play on a Sony PVM everything else looks like shit and is unplayable.

I have a sony wega trinitron that I prefer to play games on S-video, but the upscaler I linked definitely does the job if a CRT isn't available.

u/Tothoro · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

I really like the Atlantic Oskar series. I have two of these which hold up to 228 DVD-sized cases, but they come in a variety of different sizes (up to 5/600 DVD-size cases IIRC). Most of the retailers I've looked at carry them, but they also ship for free on Amazon if you'd rather go that route.

u/Drunkin-Toilet · 5 pointsr/gamecollecting

Amazon is where I found mine! I think it was like $11.50? I’ll post a link for it.
Also I think they very in size (as in how many bottles of nail polish it can hold) I saw one that could hold 172 where the one I bought held 60. If you have a big collection buy the larger one it will be more cost effective.

EDIT: Home-it Nail Polish Holder Acrylic 5 Step Counter Display Holds Up 60 Bottles https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GBCPM6I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PsIdBbTR0AY3F

u/patrickpf · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Alot of people have the same motives as you. Smash Melee is increasing in popularity and people are starting to get interested. Some competitive players own multiple controllers. Brand new controllers do still exist, and are around $30 on Amazon.

u/Dark_Knight_Reddits · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

I use a switch box, one for composite/s-video systems, and one for HDMI systems. But I have a question now looking at this. I assume you can leave all the consoles hooked up? You don't need to unplug one console to use another? If so, what would happen if you turn two or more consoles on at the same time? I assume nothing.

Really didn't know these existed or even thought of something like this when I bought the switch box. If you do have to change over when using different consoles I'd probably still stay with the switch box. Constantly unplugging and plugging probably isn't good for the inputs on the consoles after many years of use.

Edit: I just noticed the composite switch box I use is no longer made, and the $120 price tag is incredibly more expensive now. I bought it for under $40 CDN in early 2014. This is the one I'd probably buy now and looks pretty similar. I actually like this one better, as it has 8 outputs instead of 6. Doesn't have S-Video which kinda sucks though. All 8 + Input is on the back, where mine the 6th output is on the front. Making cable management look less clean on the one I have.

https://www.amazon.com/Auto-sensing-V-Switch-5-2-out/dp/B00DSQMVKU

This is what I have. I got a pair of them on ebay a bit cheaper, you can hunt around. It works great, if all you need is s-video or composite.

One downside is adding yet another AC wart to your probably already crowded power strips.

Ironic bonus: Came with several dozen different labels for the buttons.

Square still produces new copies of Chrono Trigger and it's available new in box for about $20. It's not rare or particularly valuableAmazon has it right now for example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001E27DLM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_VXWLzbX6V0XF9

Amazing game. Every DS fan should have it.

u/Icefountain · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

A good amount of people (including me) have a shelf by Prepac known as the Triple Width that looks like those.

u/ZeldaFierceDeity · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

I luckily got it for $22 sealed from amazon prime a year ago. Now its $53 for the same exact thing I got a year ago!

Chrono Trigger https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001E27DLM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_E7j0BbECPFQRW

anyone know why it got so rare all of a sudden?

u/placebotwo · 6 pointsr/gamecollecting

The best wireless Playstation 2 Controller hands down is Logitech's entry.

u/TimberTheHutt · 4 pointsr/gamecollecting

Look for one of these wireless Logitech controllers. Fantastic controller and no cords. Just make sure it includes the receiver that plugs into the controller port.

u/DibsNoJoust · 2 pointsr/gamecollecting

I use this guy: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DSQMVKU/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=19B33HS2JN0SW9M4CB5B&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=1970559082&pf_rd_i=desktop

Requires to be plugged in (which is the only down side) but it auto-switches so I don't even need to push a button, just power on the console I want to play and BOOM

u/SpetsnazV19 · 20 pointsr/gamecollecting

All 16 consoles are set up to work with just a few button presses. As well as my PC which used this to switch between my monitor and the TV. I use this component switch, this HDMI switch, and this S-Video switch.

u/cynicaljedi · 6 pointsr/gamecollecting

They are not resealed, they are reprints. This is how Square has been sealing them. Square continues to manufacture a few of their popular titles so these are NOT "New Old Stock" but just plain old "New Stock".

Edit: If you were to buy this sold and shipped as "New" by Amazon, it would be in the same shrink wrap as this is how they are sealed by the manufacturer these days.

u/bryan00798 · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Thanks for pointing that out, I couldn't find a smash bros one for less than $70 on ebay. I was really looking for this one though

u/AnotherChocobo · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Whoever did that to you is a 100% prime grade-A asshole. Looks like you can buy a sealed copy of FF9 on Amazon for twelve bucks and some change, though.

u/seadragon1012 · 7 pointsr/gamecollecting

I use a nail polish display, it works really well. They aren't that expensive ether and they come in different sizes. The one I got holds 6 gameboy carts per shelf 11 advance if you stand them lengthwise.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GBCPM6I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/Dissessence · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

it is in the description as has been said. But you can order these straight form the source now a days if you want an official one

u/nishioka · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Auto-sensing AV switch is what I use:

http://www.amazon.com/RadioShack-Auto-sensing-Switch-5-2-out/dp/B00DSQMVKU

Very convenient, jumps over to whatever console gets powered on. But really any AV switch will do.

u/Shulamana · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-28750-Composite-Selector/dp/B0032ANC8M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331157098&sr=8-1

I have two of these, IMO they work quite well. Don't go too cheap, otherwise you'll just get a useless paperweight.

u/agentsam10 · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

I have my older systems hooked into this which is hooked up into an RCA to HDMI adapter which goes to my receiver that then goes to my TV. If you need extra inputs you could add a switch between some consoles and the 8 input switch but that might degrade the signal even more.

u/__GingerBeef__ · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

I've been digging into this a lot to and saw someone's post who had these shelves:

https://www.amazon.com/Black-Triple-Width-Wall-Storage/dp/B001KW0BGU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500304427&sr=8-1&keywords=prepac+triple

Leaving towards getting a few myself. My problem with the billy and other book shelves are the depth, I don't need that for my loose carts.

u/Rokkadia · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Thank you! Prepac Triple Width Wall Storage... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001KW0BGU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share this is the shelf I got. It's slightly wobbly but it's in absolutely zero danger of falling over so I like it.
