> Waltz (Katzen Blut)
composed, arranged, and conducted by Yuji Nomi, who also composed the score for the "prequel" Whisper of the Heart and has also worked on Nichijou (yes, really) and Say I Love You.
"Katzen Blut" is the eighteenth track on the very exemplary score (you can purchase it from Amazon or CDJapan). Or you could keep an eye out for copies floating around in small CD stores; I snagged mine from a wholesale retailer in Taiwan.
If you enjoyed "Katzen Blut," chances are you will have a passing affection for the rest of the score (which is very satisfying, even when stacked against the traditionally unassailable Great Wall of Joe Hisaishi). I encourage you to look for it.
It is from the book "The Art Of Miyazaki's Spirited Away"!! It is an AMAZING piece of art, it even Includes the whole screenplay and dialogues. Definitely a treasure for any Ghibli lover! I absolutely recommend it if you can grab a copy :)
Since you mentioned Spirited Away as one of her favorites, I think it would be sweet to give her a nice jar of star sugar candy and a soot sprite -- here's one you hang on a window, a small hand-crocheted one, a giant plush one, or a sweet necklace charm.
Once you have the candy and soot sprite you can write out your message asking her to homecoming on an origami paper strip and then make it into a lucky paper star. Just make sure it's loose enough to pull apart so she can read it.
Either way I'm sure you'll come up with the perfect gesture. Good luck!
To be honest I was trying to order the album as well but could only find this Amazon MP3 download. The physical copy seems to be impossible to find unless you can read Japanese well and don't mind the humongous shipping costs.
The album is well worth the price in Amazon, though. Just listen to the preview tracks. The best songs from the album are not in Youtube, if you ask me.
Have you found additional details for the timing of the translator change at Viz? I think the publication and localisation history for Nausicaä around the world is fascinating.
> The (second) translator's perspective.
A four star review with that header was posted on Amazon, on October 10, 2003, for an earlier English edition, titled "Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind". The reviewer continued:
> "I translated the last 3/7 of this series, and in nine years of translating about 5000 pages of manga, this was the best and most important title I worked on. If you go way back to the earliest reviews here (1998), you'll find some very nice comments by Toren Smith about my translation, but I must say Toren and Dana's was a hard act to follow. They did an excellent job on the first 4/7, and my biggest challenge was to maintain both their tone and their level of quality. [...]"
and went on quite a bit longer. The whole review is an illuminating read, too.
Don't know if you've found your way there but Rachel Thorn offers fascinating perspectives, retrospectives, on Nausicaä, on translations, on her Twitter account, among other places.
Fun fact: I remember reading on The Art of Nausicaa Watercolor Impressions that Miyazaki didn't enjoy drawing Nausicaa smiling because "she's not that kind of character for him". However the publishers wanted it and he did this one (and a few others) vexed.
Check his quote here, at the 34'' mark.
Love that he's done them though - my heart melts when I see Nausicaa smile.
I purchased all my books on iTunes, since it was easier for me. But I can link them, and you can go from there :)

And going to cheat and link the complete set of The Borrowers, since it's pretty cheap.
Honestly, if you are looking to purchase elsewhere, the authors are really all you need to make sure you are getting the correct books.
I got this player even though it was almost as much as the set itself. The player is great and amazing to use, so I'm satisfied with that. Nice to know I can import other movies that aren't released in the US!
I very much enjoyed Starting Point but have not yet read Turning Point because, come on, that thing has been out for five years and they still can't do a paperback edition? I know the second I buy the hardcover a cheaper edition that looks more aesthetically pleasing on my shelf will be announced. I can't let them win.
If anyone's looking for more Ghibli reading that gets into the history of the studio and the personalities therein, Toshio Suzuki's Mixing Work with Pleasure is a good read too.
This is a great documentary, but you don't need to watch it on Blu-Ray. It isn't strikingly beautiful or all that cinematically shot. The true appeal is from getting to know Miyazaki's process and what he's like and the goings on at Ghibli, and that comes across well enough in 720p.
It's a mere 20 dollars to buy the DVD on Amazon.
The album for the lazy
Formatting might be slightly different, but I believe this has the same content:
Spirited Away
Kiki's Delivery Service
Totoro
Nausicaa
You can get “the art of” books for each individual movie they’ve made, however I have never seen one book that collates every movie.
