The wiki will lead you to everything there is to know about the win, there's also my post in this sub about how I personally set up my win.

As for reinstalling the OS, I've found that to the best of my knowledge, nothing resembling spyware is packed in on the win, the installed OS works just fine for me, and you won't have to worry about making sure you've got all the drivers right.

The bios tweaks and other performance enhancements do make a difference, but if your game is running at something like 15 FPS, chances are no amount of tweaking is going to double that performance. With some tweaks, you could see something like a 5FPS increase, which could be the difference between a playable game and a slideshow on this machine. I personally am very comfortable with tweaking and modifying things, and I'm willing to figure my way through the instability or other side-effects as they happen, some people might not be.

If you want the most stable win, keep the original bios of the aluminum lid version and don't make any modifications at all.

Keep in mind this machine isn't exactly top of the line in any aspect. It's a bit faster than something like the 2011 MacBook pro in terms of CPU power, and the GPU is about as fast as something like a 9800GT from back in the day. It might run some newer games acceptably, but expect to need to get those games running with a lower resolution. The sweet spot for this thing is games from the past, and the recent past, and most 3D games from 2010-2013 or so can run at lowered settings with a good average of 30FPS. Games from the Xbox and PS2 era, fable lost chapters, final fantasy X remastered, Halo, GTA 3, GTA:SA etc. All run at a minimum of 30fps and very likely will hit 60 if you don't artificially cap them.

As for accessories, this will fit into cases for the 2dsxl and 3dsxl. I recommend a 128gb Samsung fit USB drive and a battery bank capable of 2.4A charging. If you're carrying it in a case or bag, consider something like an [Aukey 30,000mah portable charger] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01IN9N2JA/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1502135605&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=30000+mah+portable+charger&dpPl=1&dpID=31YmtVUlOBL&ref=plSrch) if you're going to be using the win for an extended period of time, or even so you can charge it while it's in your bag so it's ready to go.

Be patient with it, ask or search around to see if someone has gotten a particular game running and at what settings, and feel free to ask around the sub here if you've got questions, I check the sub a few times a day, and more likely than not someone in here can probably get you sorted out!

Evecase 5.6 x 5.6 x 3.5 inch Camera Bag.
Chose this after trying too long to find a 3DS bag that didn't have horrible straps. $16 with Prime

Anker USB 3.0 4* USB tap.
Obviously, you need to have more than 1 USB port to do much, like using a mouse with a usb drive.
$9 with Prime.

Cable Matters Mini HDMI male to HDMI Female cable 2 pack.
Minor shaving required. Not tested extensively.
$10 with Prime.

Lexar USB 3.0 Micro SD Card Reader
If you want to use a ferry card or temporarily pop your card of choice into a computer, one of these is incredibly helpful. Plus it's tiny. You can probably get one cheaper if you don't want the 32GB card included.
$33 with Prime.

Standard XBOne Controller.
Works without any need to mess with dongles on Windows 10. It'll even work with headphones/sets.
$35-$50ish, depending on color and luck.

Venom Xbox One Rechargeable Battery Twin Pack.
I don't recommend these in particular, but a rechargeable pack is a must if you don't want to guzzle batteries.
$17 with Prime.

Logitech Wireless Mouse M185.
Pretty reliable, but only has the standard 2 mouse buttons plus tilting and clicking mousewheel. Receiver stores inside nicely.
$13 with Prime.

Kid Icarus Folding 3DS Stand That I Had In A Box.
Needs a little rubber bumper to help secure the Win properly.
$10 with Prime.

Perrix Asymetrical Folding Keyboard.
This one might be tough to find, but it works amazingly. The weird fold system pushes the main hinge off to the side, so it is less likely to fold the moment you put it on your lap. It also completely hides the hinge when the keyboard is unfolded. A bit cramped, but the keys are properly clicky laptop keys.
For image and model reference

Anker PowerCore 26800 Portable Charger*
While looking for my power pack, I found this one. Seems to be a flat upgrade. 26800mAh with 3
4.8A output USB ports. Also has 2 micro usb inputs for double the charge speed?
$59.99 with Prime.

Other possible pack-ins.

Bluetooth Numpads.
If you're primarily going to be gaming, you might want to drop the full keyboard in favor of a bit of space plus one of these. Works nicely with a mouse if you rebind with HIDMacros. Also more tiny airport/college desk friendly. Example unit is $30

Similarly, you might want to try a half controller + mouse option using a device like the
Nintendo Joy-Con's left unit. Drivers are still being worked on though, so only get this if you're up for beta troubles.
$50ish, but you can get lucky on eBay.

SanDisk Ultra Fit 128GB USB 3.0 flash drive.
The one in all the Win lists I've seen, but I figured I'd list it here for convenience.
$45 with Prime.

Batteries
All this stuff takes a total of 3 AAA (2 for the keyboard, 1 for the numpad) and 1 AA battery that will need replacing eventually. I hesitate to recommend rechargeable ones, as I have yet to find a micro charger for them.

Inateck USB 3.0 Ethernet + 3 USB 3.0 port adapter.
You might want to replace the 4 port one with one like this if you plan to do network maintenance, secure data transfer, or just plain download things quickly.

$20 with Prime.

PS4 Controller.
Some people prefer this to the XBOne one. It's lighter in the hand (and bag), comes with a built in rechargeable battery with absurd life, and has a touchpad with 4 physical buttons underneath. Can do some pretty crazy things with the touchpad via Steam's controller customization, but has weaker compatibility with non-Steam applications. Also works with PS4 Remote Play.
Worth noting that, unlike the ps3 controller, this can charge directly from any micro usb power supply. Headset support seems to require the official receiver dongle, sold separately.
Controller Alone: $40-60 Depending on color. Silver's cheapest.
Adapter Alone: $66
Controller + Adapter Bundle: $66

Budget 1 Handed Controller**
Hey, if you want to try 1/2 Controller + Mouse, why start off pricey?
$10

Phew, that's about all I have on hand.

OK, is this still the best ssd for it? Seems like the most highly recommended I've seen.

I don't know if this one works, but it says it supports USB-PD and uses 12V. I'm considering getting it when I get my WIN 2.

u/A_Fistful_of_Butts · 1 pointr/gpdwin

I use this one and I can both charge the Win and use the HDMI out port. I can't seem to get the USB port to work but that doesn't bother me since the one on the Win itself is fine.

u/sangrejoven · 2 pointsr/gpdwin

I'm also looking to buy a GPD Win here soon, so I started a poll on dingoonity.

http://boards.dingoonity.org/gpd-windows-devices/best-most-reliable-place-to-purchase-a-gpd-win/

EvilDragon won hands down! Looks like they have some REALLY excellent customer service too. Heck, EvilDragon actually posted up in my thread!

Here's the link to their store
https://www.dragonbox.de/en/475-gpd-win-gpd-win-4260416650442.html

They're currently out of stock, but you can put your email address in to be notified if you want. :)

As for extra storage, from my research I've found that the Lexar S45 USB Drive offers the highest read speeds available. The only down side is it's annoying blue read/write light. Others that have one have simply painted over the light with black nail polish, though. :D

Well SanDisk recently released this $300 400GB micro SD card although I wouldn't recommend it unless you're going to use the Win all the time or unless you're rich because the price/gigabyte is so high
https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-microSDXC-Adapter-SDSQUAR-400G-GN6MA/dp/B074RNRM2B/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1506273578&sr=8-1&keywords=400gb+micro+sd+card

u/wildmaxx · 2 pointsr/gpdwin

I use these for the top lid (zelda) and for the bottom and the analog sticks and dpad, (some cutting of the grips needed) the grips have made the win feel so much better while holding, and better grippy feel on the controls

This just happened to my Win too, but because I fell of my bike and it was in my backpack. I know this doesn't answer your question, but I used a heat gun to mold it back into shape and this stuff to weld the crack: https://www.amazon.com/Ontel-Second-Fix-Liquid-Plastic-Welding/dp/B016MB0JF6

Its knock off Bondic, pretty sure they are the exact same stuff but this is 80% cheaper.

I found Graphite Thermal Pad with 30W/mk , I hope it will help me. Also, I will delete all stickers from SSD.

I did a bit of research on this. The two main competitors for the low profile USB 3.0 usb sticks are the Lexar S45:

https://www.amazon.com/Lexar-JumpDrive-128GB-Flash-Drive/dp/B012PKV7RC

And the SanDisk Ultra Fit:

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-SDCZ43-128G-GAM46-Newest-Version/dp/B01BGTG2A0/

They are similar in price (around 30 dollars). I went with the Lexar because it seemed to be slightly faster in head to head benchmarks and the profile of it is flat. The primary downside when I got it is that it has a VERY bright blue LED that flashes with activity. However, I simply put some electrical tape over it and it almost entirely blocks it.

For SDCards, it seems the fastest performers are the Samsung EVO Plus:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-mc128d-128gb-Uhs-i-Adapter/dp/B0118LR9Z8/

It has the fastest read speed at 80 MB/sec, which is still quite a bit slower than the USB which I usually benchmark at around 150 MB/Sec max, and the internal memory is faster than both, and much better read speed (so prioritize putting games etc that have longer loading times or require writing in the internal memory).

u/macstibs · 0 pointsr/gpdwin

The Win2 is listed at $794 on Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/Handheld-Portable-Gameplayer-Notebook-Graphics/dp/B07CK7DRYS/
SSD is $220 on Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/Transcend-512GB-MTS400-Solid-TS512GMTS400S/dp/B076X365T6/
Plus time & software to image the original drive and transfer it properly to the new SSD

So (to me) it feels like $900 is fair but of course the ebay listing allows people to lob in any bid they want (within reason).

u/ZytaZiouZ · 1 pointr/gpdwin

It's possible to clone your old ssd to the new one and extend the partition, but I have never done that so I can't recommend software to do it.

To do it you will need a usb to msata adapte, and a drive you can boot from another port (could be a normal flash drive with usb c adapter). I really like this adapter https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B077S6M3QL?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

There's a link to the Wiki in the sidebar. The Wiki has a USB-PD page that lists chargers and power banks. Personally, I've used this because I already had it and it works fine:

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Delivery-PowerPort-MateBook/dp/B06Y427WT7/

If you need a power bank (battery) too, you can get them in a combo, something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071WNWRNC

u/doctorzeromd · 2 pointsr/gpdwin

So I actually got the screwdriver from this:

M2 2230 2242 to USB 3.0 M.2 NGFF SSD Enclosure B+M Key M.2 to USB 5Gbps External M2SSD Adapter support UASP for Laptop or Mac https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077S6M3QL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_LstaCbCFV6FSZ

Which seems to not be for sale anymore. I'll do some research on my commute and see if I can figure out what it was. It was a Phillips head screwdriver about 2mm in diameter if I remember correctly.

u/Kilrah757 · 1 pointr/gpdwin

Nope, you'll rather prefer spending less than half for the new MTS430. https://www.amazon.com/Transcend-512GB-MTS430S-Solid-TS512GMTS430S/dp/B07MSQMGLT/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=mts430s&qid=1562274228&s=electronics&sr=1-1

It does get hot and the metal door is probably a good thing.

U1 guarantees a minimum sequential write speed of 10 MB/s - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_class_rating

It may be faster than that, but it's probably not faster than 30 MB/s, because then they'd mark it U3

Update: here are the two reported write speeds I see in the reviews for the 400gb card:
