Just say no to big bulky solder guns. Those are for commercial wiring jobs in buildings, not for delicate things like guitar wiring. For the same money (or less) you can pick up a nice Hakko FX888D on Amazon, or for less you can get this decent little xtronic, or one of those neat little knockoff Hakko T12 units
You’re going to have to level off the affected frets so that they’re exactly level. I just started learning fret work repair so I’m not experienced in it. Any time! A lightly damp rag on the finished surfaces and plastic bits. You can also use guitar polish there are tons of brands (I use: https://www.amazon.com/Dunlop-654-Formula-Guitar-Cleaner/dp/B000EELB8W) . I use lemon oil on fretboards because it helps rehydrate the wood.
You can also hook the guitar up to an amp and tap the pickups with a screwdriver (lightly) and if the sound comes through the amp it then the pick up functions. You can do this to all the pickups to see if they all work prior to stringing it up.

nice, like a triangle file or like a stew Mac deal? I've been thinking of getting a leather burnishing bit for my dremel and gluing a strip of sandpaper in the groove for rounding off edges.
