I actually don't think I am going to go with any of these. More than likely I will go with the Gen 2 Magpul BUIS (Back Up Iron Sights). My gun nut buddy rocks them on more than one of his ARs and swears by them, and I figure I'm going to be keeping them around for a good long while so might as well drop some cash for a proven product.

Here's a link, they run about $70 right now. They have a similar, cheaper set available, but it is usually just used for airsoft.
https://www.amazon.com/Magpul-Industries-Generation-Backup-Sights/dp/B01GDL22O6/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1509597677&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=magpul+sights&psc=1

If $70 dollars is too steep, the Tacticon sights I listed are worth looking at. I've never handled them, but they seem like a reputable company and the positive reviews are just about identical to Magpul's. There was also talk of the UTG iron sights. I checked them out, but the reviews weren't as positive. Sucks, because they look badass.

In any case, my rifle won't be here for about another two weeks. I'll keep a look out for a good sale that may change my mind.

Incidentally, I handled a Smith and Wesson M&P Sport II .22lr a few months ago. I was deeply considering getting a little .22 AR for some cheap practice. It came with some sights that I absolutely loved. Very snappy, great construction, very nice. Turns out, they were Magpul Gen 2s.

This totally will be accurate enough (I don't have this particular model) but it weighs each load so you can see what you're charging before you actually do - but can potentially slow you down as it weighs each load while dispensing (still worth it though and faster than a balance scale)

Also if you're looking for tips - if you're shooting 9mm use a 147gr bullet if you can or at least anything heavier than 115gr, the recoil will be more "back and towards you" rather than upwards - x-treme bullets are pretty great and one of the more inexpensive options but if you can find pulled bullets (not necessarily ideal but good enough for practice at least) they will be even cheaper - ammoseek has parameters you can set for reloading supplies. You'll also need a hand priming tool (wait for a sale, it does come down in price) - or a table top version, and a press of some kind (don't be afraid to look for used to save money, I'm rocking an RCBS thats older than I am but works great and am currently doing 4000 556 loads through it. - also consider what kind of brass you're going to be reloading, if its military crimped you're going to need either a primer pocket swagger or a cutter to chamfer the primer pocket. There are also case prep machines that are electric and have these tools as well as others especially if you're going to be doing a lot of rifle rounds. Buy a reloading manual thats encompassing, you can check used bookstores - you can also find load data online but that can be hit or miss.

You'll find you won't save any money but will be able to shoot more for the same amount - more bang for your buck.

u/newyearyay · 5 pointsr/gundeals

This seems like a good deal to get the majority of what someone would need right off the bat to start reloading (but it doesnt come with a case trimmer....there are cheaper models out there) even so though you'll probably start to upgrade parts very quickly (if not immediately) from a better hand prep tool that would also allow you to remove military crimps as well as chamfur and deburr (and then maybe eventually to a prep centerif you start reloading a lot)

And so on, so it really depends if someone is going to jump in with both feet it may be cheaper for them to buy the parts seperately but if youre just looking to do a little casually or try it out this sounds totally worth it. It is addictive and personally im halfway through case prepping 4000 556 cases which isnt the easiest on a single stage press but will save me several hundred dollars over purchasing from the factory (as well as the ability to tune loads for each rifle)

There are reloading deals out there for materials, but press kits like this will save some people money but cost others 'more' (as they will probably upgrade certain things) still great to get into

u/Bongolian_Horde · 13 pointsr/gundeals

I use a lee turret press, and that, with a turret, die set, primer and powder drop thingies cost a little over $200.

You will need measuring devices like calipers, a scale and case gauges. That could be $50 or a lot more depending on scale quality. I use a $30 digital one, but I calibrate it everytime I use it. Powder charges, overall length measurements, and headspace length on the brass case are very important.

You will need case prep tools, especially for bottleneck rifle brass. I got this guy to just do it all. $170 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HS7JEB4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You can get trimmers, chamfer bits, and those things that attach to drills, there are tabletop hand trimmers, other electric trimmers, but at the end of the day, the frankford thing is just quick and easy. Trimming rifle brass is easily the worst part of the whole process.

A tumbler and tumble media will clean up all your fired brass, dry vibratory ones work fine and are cheaper. Mine, with media was about $50

Then come random things like reloading trays, case lube, cartridge cases, and more meticulous measurement things like chamber gauges, concentricity gauges, and more. Outside of lube and cases for loaded rounds, it's not really necessary. Plastic 9mm ammo trays from factory ammo makes for great 223 reloading trays. $50 will get you lube and cases.

Then you need powder, primers and bullets. Primers are usually $30-$40/1,000, Hornady 55gr .224" bullets are about $90-$100/1,000, and powder is about $22-$30/lb, or less in bulk, or from pull down suppliers like american reloading... I use this stuff for everything in 556 but match grade reloads, and 16lbs is good for about 4500 rounds. https://americanreloading.com/en/reloading-rifle-powder/2355-wc-844-military-smokeless-rifle-powder-16-lbs.html

You're probably looking at about $500 before the actual powder primers and bullets. That's also assuming you have been saving your brass.

Sorry for the long post, but there is more to reloading than most people initially think. That said, I was able to piece all that together over last summer, and am cranking out rounds whenever I want now.

I always love to support fellow gun enthusiasts, especially when they are Redditors—but currently Anazon has new 1720 cases for $201 and free shipping. If you bumped the price down, even a little, I think you would generate a lot more interest. I'd probably even get one then.

Best of luck with your sales!

u/19Kilo · -1 pointsr/gundeals

I dunno. Aero doesn't really offer anything that you can't DIY pretty easily other than finish and I do like to rattlecan guns. As soon as we replace the oven in the kitchen, that might be migrating out to the garage to see if I want to get into Cerakote.

> The intergrated trigger guard is really nice

I like the ability to pick and choose, but I usually default to MagPul plastics.

> threaded bolt catch is a god send of making the hardest part of the lower build the easiest

Knipex flat jaw pliers for all the roll pins makes it super simple.

> I like the set screw in the back

4-40 tap and tap wrench along with a phat sack of these. If you chop a couple coils off the safety detent you can tap and thread that for the same screws as well.

This gun is awesome. I am not a large human , but I have a slight gut haha, I appendix carry this gun and it has been the most comfortable I have owned for carrying. I have done glocks, s&w shield, ruger sr9c in various position. The thing also that really helped was the holster https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E62E0MG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

The only thing I haven't found a solution for is the hammer digging into my stomach sometimes like when I sit or drive. I may have to one day buy a similar sized polymer gun that is striker fired, but I haven't found one I really like.

The sig is joy to shoot even at the range, it is accurate as fuck, it is super reliable and I love the looks.

u/guacamoleburger · 24 pointsr/gundeals

I’d much rather go for the 3M EEP-100. 27 NRR capable out the box with the right ear piece and upgradable to 30 NRR. Same price too.

https://www.amazon.com/3M-PELTOR-Electronic-Earplug-EEP-100/dp/B07P8YDBZD

I’ve been meaning to write a full review on these but I’ll give a short snippet on how they are:

  • I use them under electronic muffs and this combo provides the ability to hear everything while maintaining good hearing protection.

  • Battery life hasn’t been much of an issue, haven’t ran into them dying on me yet.

  • the color is a little off putting but underneath electronic earmuffs, it’s a nonissue

  • The charging box is great and a nice way to carry them around
u/macbooklover91 · 3 pointsr/gundeals

I agree with everything you said with one caveat. (Edit: This is just talking about the non budget series, I reread your comment, but keeping mine because the jist of it still stands. Agree on suggesting the budget series.)

Pelican cases are made to go to war, deal with baggage handlers, get shipped around the world with expensive and sensitive equipment inside and insure they come out the other side just fine.

They’re overkill for many people.

I have 4 pelican cases (yes, I have a problem... I need more pelican cases...) and I love them. But they are overkill for what I use them for.

A buddy was debating between the 1750 (I have one and brought it over for him to check out) and a Plano (this one, I think. Plano Double Scoped Rifle Case w/Wheels https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0029KDHQI/).

He ended up going with the Plano for half the money and spent the rest on Ammo. Not a bad choice by any means. For range trips the Plano is perfect. And I’m sure it’d handle just fine if/when he decides to fly with it.

u/mm1046256 · 2 pointsr/gundeals

The Pelican 1720 you were looking at, I presume on Amazon at its best price of ~$130, is a pretty good case for the price.

https://www.amazon.com/Pelican-1720-Rifle-Case-Black/dp/B001BTQEZ4?psc=1

However, if you want something slightly less expensive than a Pelican then Negrini does produce a budget option for scoped rifles with barrel lengths of 24" and below (most of their other cases for rifles are upwards of $400. They produce higher end cases for companies like Beretta and they also make amazing 1911 cases). This case is available via their website at the moment for $99.

https://negrinicases.com/gun-cases/hunting-rifle-case-1685isy5454/

I have one of their 1911 cases for a Colt Gold Cup. They are absolutely exceptional cases. Exact case measurements are available on photograph 2 of the slideshow in that Negrini website link.

u/jbs0und · 15 pointsr/gundeals

For another $15 I would suggest the ($40 total) - Noisefighter gel pads (Amazon link)

I shared with another user in this thread that these have a relief cut that allows the use of eyewear without breaking the seal around your ear. It may seem steep, but at ~$80 ($35 HL's + $40 gel pads) these will be about as good as it gets until you start looking at earpro in excess of $200. I shared some photos in this comment for those curious. Happy Thanksgiving!

No, I'm not. I just read "the book". :D

If you want to learn more about long range shooting, there's a great book by Ryan Cleckner called "Long Range Shooting Handbook." I highly recommend it.

https://www.amazon.com/Long-Range-Shooting-Handbook-Cleckner/dp/151865472X

He also did several great videos for the National Shooting Sports Foundation that are on YouTube. And he's got a podcast that's really good too.

u/nitsuJcixelsyD · 18 pointsr/gundeals

If you are interested in dipping your toe into in-ear electronic protection, I would recommend starting with the EEP-100 for ~$144. The included foam tips will get you 27 NRR and you can increase that to 30 NRR with replacement tips at ~$21 for 10 pairs.

I have the EEP-100 and use them outdoors with the 27 NRR tips and am very pleased with their performance. I am using them to replace Howard Leight Impact Sport electronic over ears. My biggest complaint with over ears is when I shoot a rifle my cheek weld will break the seal. I would resort to foam plugs under the impact sports and then turn them all the way up. This was uncomfortable for extended range trips and I still had to talk loud/ yell to range buddies.

With the EEP-100 I can keep them in ear at a good volume and not break the seal from cheek weld on a rifle. Outdoors they work perfectly and I don’t notice any discomfort from extended range time and the 27 NRR allowing too much noise in.

I plan to use these with centerfire suppressed rifles as soon as my cans clear. I will probably bump down to the 23 NRR tips in that case as I won’t need much to stop the remainder of the sound with the suppressed rifle. Even dry firing and racking and dropping bolts/slides the EEP-100 will pick that up and gate that noise. Pretty impressive.

Your use case may be different, but the price to performance for me is perfect.

u/MarcusDohrelius · 2 pointsr/gundeals

Not at this price. Since it is a solid scope, but a budget one nonetheless, I would assume folks would be looking for a decent mount. I would get something like this basic $25. Honestly, any of the ones on Amazon (from sellers like TMS) that have decent ratings and aren't rock bottom priced will probably do fine. Many of the decent ones all come from the same few overseas places.

As a slight step up I would look into Aero Precision Mounts.

And on the highest end I would look at Amercan Defense, but at that point the mount cost more than the scope.

I didn't even bother mentioning Larue, Bobro, and others because I don't think you (general you, not directed at the poster) would pair the Crossfire with one of these.

u/midnightblade · 7 pointsr/gundeals

Seems like a pretty good deal considering the optic sells for $420 on amazon Here.

So it's like you're paying $480 $580 for a full M4 style AR-15. Doesn't seem to be marked up very much to me.

=( My math is bad as /u/MyFishIsGold pointed out

u/Notorious_Dave · 1 pointr/gundeals

Prove it.

It's never gone below $390 on amazon, pretty good estimation of average price. http://camelcamelcamel.com/Aimpoint-PRO-Patrol-Rifle-Optic/product/B007GDR0I4

u/MisterNoisy · 3 pointsr/gundeals

I really like these as a budget alternative to the VTAC quick-adjust sling. $20 all day long, great construction (tubular nylon instead of flat straps), and if you don't want to use the quick-adjust loop, you don't have to.

Add these if you have standard swivel studs or these if you have QD mounts - both are under $10.

u/shintenzu · 20 pointsr/gundeals

Other than the name brand I do not see why these should cost more than $60.

I would recommend UTG's spring loaded set for $60

https://www.opticsplanet.com/leapers-utg-accu-sync-spring-loaded-flip-up-rear-sight.

htmlhttps://www.opticsplanet.com/leapers-utg-accu-sync-spring-loaded-flip-up-front-sight.html

Or their non spring loaded set for $45

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0182VADPU/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_CzAACb7Y6DBFF

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0182UM8ZO/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_pzAACbH7QCX82

I can personally vouch for these, accurate right out of the box, zero issues, made of the same grade of aluminum.

I've also purchased their non spring loaded 45 degree offset iron sights which go for $60 combined
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DD2S86K/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_OXCACbH7F5WQA

I have one on my budget PSA AR build. I mounted it and haven't had any problems. The mounting bolts/nuts feel cheap but the actual mount is sturdy.

I would probably spring for a nicer mount if you are building a high end AR or a long range precision type rifle, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy it for a budget build or plinker.

There are a couple hundred amazon reviews: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/cr/B00DP26OUK/ref=mw_dp_cr

You and I both know that this isn't the only thing stopping me from doing this.

But- I look into it. Looking at risers I found these two.

https://www.amazon.com/UTG-Med-pro-Compact-Riser-Mount/dp/B003TX2BD4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1518456817&sr=8-1&keywords=UTG+riser

Best bet to wait for the sight to come in and measure? or is there a standard size for these?

u/agrosa · 3 pointsr/gundeals

I was in the same boat a couple of years ago. The only thing that I added beyond more mags was a two-point sling. I purchased this one off of amazon for $20 and it's well built and has served me well.

I didn't go too crazy on accessories and spent more money on ammo and range time.

u/OllyKloz · 1 pointr/gundeals

Every once in a while these go on sale and different places. Most of the time people will post it if it does. I think I got one for like $52. Pluck the foam and spray with plastidip and it’s awesome

Plano All Weather Tactical Gun Case, 42-Inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E2217I6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_bgfQBbHFT0HDN

u/ISaidNoDecaf · 7 pointsr/gundeals

I'm also genuinely curious about the differences between the pricier backup sights (Magpul, Troy Industires, Diamondhead, etc.) and the lower-priced options available on Amazon, since the latter cost around half as much as former. I'll be running a Vortex StrikeFire II on my AR, and I currently have the UTG Low Profile Flip-Up Front and Rear sights (which were gifted to me, and seem to have decent reviews). I'd imagine there's a difference in fit and finish/build quality between the two price points, but are budget backup sights an acceptable option if they're actually just being used as backups?

u/ArmedOne78 · 1 pointr/gundeals

I have one of these and it's great. I'll be picking up a couple more for other firearms. Just spray the foam with plasti-dip and it will last you a long time.

u/Meatdonkey · 3 pointsr/gundeals

I use this for my cheaper budget builds. Works fine. Gives a 1/3 co witness. I believe the medium gives absolute. May want to get something nicer if it's for a high end build though.

FWIW, I picked up this one from amazon:

CCOP MNT-1516 High Profile AR-ArmourTac Rifle Scope Mount Rings for Picatinny Rail, 30mm for $28 and have been very happy with it.

Don't have a PEPR to compare it to side by side, but it's a little bulky...and a little heavy, but....if that's all the PEPR is, why not spend half the money and get the amazon one.
