38. Harry Potter Magical Places & Characters Coloring Book
Harry Potter Magical Places Characters Coloring Book
For my last birthday, my brother got me this cool lumos light switch. There are lots of options for similar products online and it's a project that you could probably easily make yourself with supplies from a craft/hardware store.
I had a friend give me a wall transfer once that she made with her cricut. It looked something like this and it's been on my wall for ages. Same friend also made me a couple pillows with the same machine that had Dumbledore quotes on them. Imagine this but with "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of places..." on it.
I've also given out an "After Harry Potter" set of books before. For those who read Harry Potter and think "what now?" I'm sure this could be catered to the receiver, but the set I gave my friend had Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Lev Grossman's The Magicians, a printed and spiral bound set of Pottermore writings (or the ones that were available at the time), and The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook. I think I had one or two more, it was a couple years ago.
I also handmade a pair of Luna's radish earrings for a friend once. I followed a tutorial online and it was surprisingly easy - just required a pair of earrings, some wire, and a few beads and they looked great.
I guess it all depends on what kind of gift you want to give her. There is a Harry Potter application for just about everything. If your girlfriend doesn't have a lot of the standard merchandise already, you might try just checking out the local bookstore. With the release of Cursed Child, most bookstores in my area now have entire tables dedicated to Harry Potter gear. Last time I was at a Barnes and Noble I walked out with a Marauder's Map blanket. I've been sorely tempted by that 3D Hogwart's puzzle a time or two as well. And when I went on the WB studio tour, I got this really cool wand necklace. It comes in an Ollivander's box, though it is a bit pricey.
Good luck. Happy birthday to the gf!
Pottermore can be really difficult to navigate, but it's a great source for long descriptions of things you encounter in the Wizarding World. However, since you're so new to this world, I'd recommend using the HP Lexicon if you have any questions about characters, spells, potions, creatures, maps of Hogwarts Castle, and many more.
They also have a bunch of official books they've released over the years that delve deeper into the world (though rely heavily on the films for inspiration). These include Magical Places, The Creature Vault, The Artifact Vault, and The Character Vault.
Also, the HP-Companion site goes through the books chapter by chapter with artwork and comments on it that could help you better understand what's going on, if needed. They've had some issues with bugs, but so far the 1st book has been completely fixed.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Harry Potter!
I haven't read that one, but I did pick up "Harry Potter and History" which was actually quite a good read. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Kind of went through history and talked about how this or that may have influenced these characters, or inspired JKR etc. So if it's from the same series, it could be good!
Now looking at the one I got, it doesn't seem to be the same series. But still: http://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-History-Culture-Series/dp/0470574720
There's a replica of Ravenclaw's diadem on Amazon, for about £125.
There's some good stuff from Noble Collection, but be wary if you buy replicas. Always check the description, because stuff that looks awesome the the Triwizard Cup are actually often just 5" tall. So not a replica then.
And I don't know about her, but I love collecting all different wands, not just having one.
ISBN: 978-0-470-57472-0, the editor is Nancy R. Reagin (it has many authors as it is a collection of essays). If you're looking in a book store, my friend found it in the 'History' section at a Barns and Noble. Here is the Amazon link for anyone looking to order it online: Harry Potter and History. It was a really good read paralleling the magical world of Harry Potter with actual events, people, places, and things.
*Edit: it looks like it is also available on Kindle. So there is a digital copy out there too for anyone who is reading on a kindle, nook, or something else.
Don't even worry - I already own all these. In fact, Sorceror's Stone is in my stereo right now.
You should be aware that they're much cheaper on Amazon, though. Like ~ $1.75 each.

And the great thing about cassettes is they are 10x more durable than CDs, so you shouldn't worry about buying them used.
It's "The Case of Beasts - Explore the Film Wizardry of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them": https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0062571370?ref_=sr_1_9&qid=1479873698&sr=8-9&keywords=fantastic%20beasts%20and%20where%20to%20find%20them&sa-no-redirect=1&pldnSite=1
I highly recommend it. It's probably the coolest book I own and it includes so many nice poster's and pull-outs. The design company (MinaLima) that do all the graphic design for the HP/FB films designed it, so it's really nicely put together.
I don't think any of these really matter. They don't make me heartsick. I get that it's just a series. I have no problem accepting that there's a lot of mistakes and plot holes, and I don't mean to suggest that JK thought through the economic, philosophical, and political implications of her world. But she did create a world that, by necessity, provides valid grounds on which to address those issues-- and address them I shall.
The really goddamned awesome thing about HP, for me, is that it has such a depth, and such a fan base, that in a very real sense it's a new universe. I like thinking about how economics would function in the HP universe, or the implications that it holds for philosophy. As the author of the first suggests (I'm stuck behind a firewall, so forgive me for paraphrasing), there's a lot to learn about economics, philosophy, and political science (along with many others) in Harry Potter for the sole reason that so many people care in the first place. What exactly is it about an HP society that makes people view it as simultaneously realistic and utopic?
I'm utterly unapologetic about my fandom. It's something I love, that I'm good at, and that I use to stimulate my brain. I refuse to find anything embarrassing about that.
I wish she would make an encyclopedia. I hate Pottermore. I want something like what Cassandra Clare did or (sorry!) Stephenie Meyer did. I think if she got a design team behind her it would be amazing. These books are amazing and the designers would kick ass at helping her. 1 2 3
It was pretty easy actually. Found some parchment style envelopes and letters and a Hogwarts seal wax kit. Both on amazon. Then just wrote up the invitations along with custom character sheets.

If you ever end up doing this I recommend practicing fixing the seals with the other colored wax that's included first before sealing the actual envelopes, and get more red wax if you're making out more than 8-9 letters!

https://www.amazon.ca/Harry-Potter-Boxed-Set-Collection/dp/1408850753 I bought this set not too long ago in paperback. Just love the covers, the colours are amazing. They're British versions though so not sure which ones you're looking to buy.
I just got my wife this. We both love games... not sure how it plays yet personally, but the review seem good
Definitely! It's got amazing detail, cool props, and additional content not seen in the film or only given a glimpse of. I don't know how much it is where you are but I found one on Amazon for $27 USD. My girlfriend was surprised to hear it was less than $100 USD.
>"You are protected, in short, by your ability to love!"
>
>— Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
It might seem rather silly of course, but throughout the series there has been an indication that love and pure desire to protect someone often fuels more power in a way?
There's no doubt Bellatrix may be a more professional and skilled duelist, after all she was Voldemort's right hand and trusted "general" but the circumstances in which the duel took place
simply those two might have just fuelled something stronger to help her defeat Bellatrix.
This added to the fact that I guess sometimes we overlook characters like Molly Weasley simply because they haven't been on the frontlines of a battle?
all we have ever known about her was the sweet fussy motherly person who made sure you ate extra helpings, got the best jumpers in christmas and was someone you wouldn't want to cross because she can be very tempestuous when angry.
Amazon had a deal on this on cyber Monday for $99, so I pounced. I had been waiting awhile to get a box set because I wanted a Blu-Ray one, but I didn't want that $700 one with all that other crap, and I didn't want the $39 one without any special features.
I almost missed this one because when I read the comments and reviews, they all said "No special editions" so I dismissed it. Then I found they had lumped the reviews for the $39 one in with this sale item, and then took the plunge.
You can still purchase this particular box for $150 on Amazon, but if you're curious what it looks like or includes, check the album. Enjoy!

Joyeux Halloween!
Looks like it's shipped from Amazon.com direct, not special-ordered or anything - shouldn't be too bad. But they also work with other sellers through their site that might offer better shipping rates.

Updated, hardcover versions of Fantastic Beasts, Quidditch Through the Ages, and Tales of Beedle the Bard (can't find the new version for preorder) are due out in March. All 3 books will be hardcover, and you can preorder the updated Hogwarts Library boxed set on Amazon for under $25.
Can we talk about how beautiful these updated covers are?
This is amazing! But you seem to be missing the latest thing for Potterphiles. There's a deck building card game called Hogwarts battles that's quite brilliant and a nice addition to a collection such as this.

To save you all time, here are some quick links to the books!
Wow look! Here's one!
I currently own the 'Ultimate Edition' Blu Rays, each one has 2-4 discs and a bunch of extras. It's not a collection, each movie is separate and last I checked they're out of print. The Hogwarts Collection (https://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-Hogwarts-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B00HETD0KC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525124400&sr=8-1&keywords=the+hogwarts+collection) is probably the best one still on the market; any other boxset for the most part is out of print. I'm working on the 4K editions now.
I do. Just be advised there are some crazy words in those books haha. It is really good practice though!
http://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-Weisen-German-Edition/dp/3551354014
if you order them all it will come out to over 25 dollars so free shipping i believe.
you should be able to bobby pin the ends in your hair if you have them down. it doesn't actually look like that one is meant to be worn easily; some of them are design pieces rather than wearable.
https://www.amazon.com/The-Noble-Collection-NN7247-Ravenclaw/dp/B00NA5WQUO
like that one has much longer ends.
are you sure yours isn't actually messed up?
I think they meant the actual book of Fantastic Beasts.
https://www.amazon.com/Fantastic-Beasts-Where-Find-Them/dp/1338132318/
Have you seen these three books (1, 2, 3)? I haven't read them, so I can't tell you which is best, but even just looking at the table of contents might give you some ideas.
I guess it depends what you consider to be reasonably priced, but there are lots of options on amazon.co.uk:
7 books, boxed set, paperback £38.99
There are lots more options, too. It helps if you search by the specific book title.
The Creating the World of Harry Potter documentary was orginally exclusive to the Ultimate Editions, but it soon spread to other editions released after it (including the Wizard's Collection, Hogwart's Collection and most recently 8-Film Steelbook Collection.
Additionally the recently released Special Editions, which is what you've found, include the documentary as well. So the edition you stumbled upon while legit, won't contain any of the other physical extras that the Ultimate Editions have.
yep, amazon! I got it from the seller "myrockland" under the new tab. if you want to search around more its the 2013 adult versions in paperback
I think this is what you're looking for: Harry Potter Film Wizardry
I have it and it does feature the things you listed among other really cool HP stuff.
Edit: looks like there is an update coming Amazon
You can purchase a paperback set on the UK version of Amazon.
Not exactly an RPG, but I've had a blast with Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1408850753/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_8?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1DKTB3FGMXCS3
That is the cheapest I have seen so far. Ones on Ebay in paperback start around 90
Found an Amazon link. They also have Astronomy Tower & Hogwarts Express!
It's from this book, just a poor quality photo. There might be better out there, but that's all I could find quickly.
