Oh, I know! I've been going there for years, my parents got a timeshare back in the 80s, and my dad, my sister and I (and sometimes others) have been able to keep going most years. I live in California now, but I grew up in Massachusetts. I'll be there in mid-August, and I've done most (all?) of the things you mentioned.

Long Point is great, and I honestly probably have more fun just walking along the breakwater to get there--some people take ferries, but I have a greater sense of accomplishment just walking. Last year, I guess my whole family were showing our age, because we managed to get to Coast Guard late, and went to Nauset Light... where a dead seal washed up from a shark attack, which is the fun new trend.

Honestly, Cape Cod has always meant a lot to me, because it's one of the only connections to my childhood and family traditions. We've taken to exploring it pretty thoroughly, and it's always hard to kind of balance the old with the new and not fall completely into old traditions.

I saw that you were on vacation there now, and I'm not sure how much longer you'll be there, but I'm happy to give you any suggestions if you need any, as someone who's spent vacations there since I was a kid. I'm not sure what you did in Dennis, but Mayflower Beach is an excellent bay side beach where you can walk out extremely far in low tide, and is sort of the opposite of the experience you'll get at say, Coast Guard or Cahoon Hollow/White Crest (I lost a pair of glasses in the surf at Cahoon Hollow once!). There's also a wonderful restaurant that serves fairly traditional Italian nearby called Gina's by the Sea--though it's a huge pain in the ass (long wait, only open Thursday-Sunday or something like that, they straight up don't let you in when it's crowded so it's best to go like an hour before closing). Also, again if you have the opportunity, Chatham (the "elbow" of the Cape) is a fun town, with lots of interesting art galleries and shopping if you're into that, though nowhere really holds a candle to Provincetown. Like I said, I have no idea how long you'll be there, but we've found this book to be very helpful over the years. But like I said, if you need any suggestions for most areas of the Cape, I probably have a few! :)

And if you haven't checked out the Portuguese bakery in Provincetown, do yourself a favor and get over there!

Here are some pictures I've taken over the past few years:

> I'm not sure about that, but they apparently do use archival backup tapes, which is pretty amazing.

This is actually a bit of a pet peeve of mine. Tape decks are awesome, and are still used all the time. The big reason is that they are amazingly cheap. Here is a 6 TB tape for 30 dollars. If you never want to delete anything, tapes are awesome.

If you're interested in Buffet, I highly recommend this biography. It's an excellent book about a truly inspiring and courageous person, and it also doubles as an incredible history of the stock market over the last 80 years and one of the better introductions to the basics of investing in the stock market that you'll ever read.

Sorry, couldn't respond because I had to go to bed. Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, like I said, ultimately it's hard to get around the fact that it worked out about the way people predicted it would - that we would get ensnared in a conflict we couldn't "win" by our own definition. But, I do believe that Bush actually believed in spreading democracy and freedom, and had a (somewhat) reasonable goal compared to Trump's policies.

I haven't actually read either of them, but if you're interested in learning about Iraq (and military affairs in general) in a more nuanced way, check out:

Admittedly, I've only read small parts of each, but both are excellent journalists/writers and they should be good.

Another new book release that might interest some people here: a picture book called "The Answer", based on an episode of Steven Universe that told the backstory of how their main queer couple met and fell in love during a rebellion. The art is gorgeous, and so is the story it was based on, which you can definitely read without knowing much or anything about the cartoon. I'm excited to donate it to my local library for the kids. There are hardly any queer books for beginner readers, and the few I've seen are pretty low quality and/or focused more on neutral mommies and daddies.

EDIT: For intro econ, you can just get started with the books by Krugman and Wells. I'm sure we all love Krugman here yea?

As far as history goes, just FYI, Zinn's People's History has a very poor reputation among (even left leaning) academic historians. You can ask about it at /r/askhistorians if you want to know more. You can also check their excellent book list, organized by region and topic.

EDIT: For an overview of US history, The Oxford History of the US series is an excellent primer.

I know less about sociology, but I think a good intro would be Khan's Privilege in that it touches on a contemporary sociological issue in a lay friendly manner but also goes into some theoretical foundations in the tradition of Bourdieu.

Connie Shultz is so rad. She's a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist who happened to marry to Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown a little over a year before he decided to run for senate. If you're looking for a good book, I highly recommend ...And His Lovely Wife, her memoir of his campaign.

On the one hand, we're the only state to reject Lincoln for President twice. :-(

But on the other hand, and related to today's events, we were the actually the first state to give women and black people the vote, despite what you were taught in school!

Our Constitution was written somewhat on the run from the British (our governor, Ben Franklin's son, was actually a Tory and ultimately got himself arrested, prisoner-swapped with the British, and never spoke to Dad again). Ours became the only colony that didn't limit voting to white land-holding males.

Many thought this was a simple oversight given the hasty nature of its formation. However, the NJ legislature clarified the law, and women and free blacks could vote. Eventually though another law in 1820 changed it and it seems women and blacks did not complain.

But despite what you read about who was the first woman or black person to vote, the real answer was that for a brief time they were voting in the colonial era in New Jersey.

That's why it would have been awesome for this to end tomorrow in New Jersey, the unofficial first state to allow women to vote and women could correct their ancestors' mistaken renunciation of voting rights and choose the first female presidential party nominee instead! It would have been triple amazing if Hillary knew this obscure historical fact and has/had it planned for her speech. I don't think 1 in a 1000 know this story.

I have figured out how to take back our country from Republicans in one word:

Texas

If we can turn Texas blue by 2020 and keep California and New York, the Republicans will freak out.

I have been researching this for two weeks and I know we can turn Texas blue by 2024 and possibly by 2020.

Though Texas went for Trump, he only won by 9 percent, which might seem like a lot but HRC got more votes than Obama got in 2012. Texas is only getting bluer.

I will be spending the Thanksgiving holiday deciding if I will be starting a PAC or joining with one that already exists. I will be sure to keep you all updated!

A lot of my ideas from the book Turn Texas Blue, which I highly recommend. It is what the Democrats should be using to Turn America Blue.

I know we can do this! #TexasBlue2020

Not exclusively Hillary-based, but I bought this for a Christmas present: Boss Babes: A Coloring and Activity Book for Grown-Ups
I found that in this great list: 8 Cheap Gifts to Get Your Feminist Friends With Post-Election Blues
Here's another great list - gotta love the "Nasty Woman" T-shirt: 13 Gifts That Give Back (And Smash The Patriarchy).

Weren't there jokes, back in the day, about how the Bush Presidential Library was only going to contain two books and he's almost finished colouring the second one?

The Trump library will contain twelve copies of "The Art of the Deal", but if you pay VIP membership you can get access to the Gold Suite where there are also three copies of "The Best Golf Advice I Ever Received".

Important Book Suggestion: My daughter is very ill and bedridden so she can't attend any of the women's marches. We have chosen a book for her to read/to read together and want to share it with everyone! If you can't go to the march (or even if you can), we could do a book club type read!

A Brief History of Misogyny: the World's Oldest Prejudice: Brief Histories
Written by: Jack Holland (He wrote this with his daughter as he was dying).

If your library participates, Overdrive has it too https://www.overdrive.com/media/990220/a-brief-history-of-misogyny

I know that Audible allows users to send a free book to anyone who has not already gotten a a free book that way. I am not a computer person but if I can figure it out, I would happily send it to someone from Audible to start a chain to free downloads.
