What did you think of the 5.25" Disk Caddies? What did you dislike about them?
I am probably going to buy something like this for my SSDs as it has a larger fan that I can replace with a quiet Noctua and it has MiniSAS HD connectors for a more tidier look.
You'll like a r720XD LFF and parts are EASY to get if things break and the NSFW Anniversary Build is pretty amazing if you go with an external disk shelf. Good luck with the upgrade whatever you choose.
Not sure. No one ever got back to me about a price check! They go for just shy of £1500 on Amazon UK but to be honest I want rid of the thing since the box is taking up so much space and I already have a 4 bay desktop NAS I use as my daily driver.
I'd be happy to get rid of it for like £600-700. It's pretty much brand new and it'd be a bargain for anyone on the lookout for one. Rails are included, too.
I considered Noctuas but Dell does this funky thing there they rewire the connections from the standard 3 pin connector and you’ll get a fan failure light and they won’t turn on if you don’t rewire it yourself. I just lacked the tools to do the rewiring so I opted for a Sunon kit which already had the proper connector and came with extenders (I’m not confident the fan cables would have been long enough on the Noctuas). A bit pricey but well worth it after installation. Ships pretty quick from California even without prime. I’m on the east coast and had them in 4 days.

Noctuas would have been cheaper for sure (I think they’re $15/ea or so, but if I needed to require the connectors I’d also need one of these so my options were $95 prime to do it myself, of $99 + shipping to buy what I knew would work plug-and-play.
I swear half my homelab experience has been buying stuff super cheap and then pouring more money than its worth into getting it working the way I want it. I guess you learn stuff doing these upgrades yourself though :)
Ahoy!
I might be a stupid bot, but you seem to be missing a price on your post. All sale posts are required to list a price. If you are linking to an auction site, you still need a price, but you can put your desired target price, current price, base price, or whatever is helpful. But you need a price.
If you are missing a price, YOUR POST WILL BE REMOVED! So PLEASE, quickly edit your post and list a price. Do not post a comment with the price as it needs to be in the original post.
If you do already have a listed price and I could not parse it, sorry for the confusion.
Your post:
For sale are (2) 1U mac mini racks; I have them on ebay for 150 each but offering them to reddit users for 110 each shipped to Continental US.
Out of country we can talk but I don't know if shipping is worth it due to weight. I accept paypal.
Thanks!

From what I have read online you can only get those specific locks from dell but another option that I had never got to trying was using a third party solution. You might have to dremel the hole to make it fit but locks are locks. I was looking at these locks. You could just have to make sure that the lock itself isn't too long.
For the door lock those are relatively easy to find, it may not be the exact model but as long as you use the right type it would work fine, for example this one.
Someone get this!!!
I have a similar one.
I love mine (sound deadening and sits in my office with 3 servers and a Cisco switch). My house air vents are louder.
The rails can be purchased on amazon (or was it ebay?) for much less than the $200 listed on APC's website. Mine is VERY heavy. Don't underestimate it. .
EDIT: I changed things because I am super indecisive.ALSO! I found the link to the rails I bought

More stuff, it looks to be this one:

Don’t know the specifics of that server but you can think creatively. I use a Cisco 2921 router and it’s fans are super loud and even at low rpm can be heard through walls. I ended removing the entire fan assembly from the front of the router and replaced it with this
Router logs show fans have failed but other than that everything works wonderfully. And this setup is silent enough for me to put the router next to my desk while working.
If you end up buying new, Cyberpower UPSs are pretty good. Something like this one would probably work well for you; has an L5-30 connector.
From my search finding 30” depth racks that are smaller is kinda difficult. You may also want room to expand. I know this rack is pretty popular and I’ve seen some sales on this one: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Adjustable-Levelers-Management-4POSTRACK12U/dp/B00P1RJ9LS/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=startech+12u&qid=1555357650&s=gateway&sr=8-3
The Mikrotik CRS-317 is $341 on Amazon and even with the fans running is whisper-quiet. I love mine. https://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Router-Switch-317-1G-16S-RM/dp/B0747TC9DB
Thanks, I've been eyeing this rack, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P1RJ9LS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
I've been waiting for a deal to come up on the used market for a nice closed rack or cheaper open rack before purchasing a rack new.
If your SATA controller supports SAS drives, something like https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-18in-SATA-Cable-Power/dp/B000V72AQ4 would work. Otherwise you would need a SAS HBA or Raid Card.
I rock some of these for my 3's: https://www.amazon.com/LoveRPi-Power-Over-Ethernet-PoE-Raspberry-Model/dp/B07KF6ZFMT/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=pi+hat&qid=1572991601&sr=8-3
They also make em for 4's: https://www.amazon.com/LoveRPi-Power-Over-Ethernet-PoE-Raspberry-Model/dp/B07WD7HXSQ/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=pi+hat&qid=1572991652&sr=8-4
If you've got Prime, easy enough to chuck in with your next order.
Solid drives and good price. GLWS!
For those wondering, they will not plug into your SATA or m.2 ports. Unless you have a mobo with a u.2 slot (which you probably don't) you can use this to install them: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-U-2-PCIe-Adapter-PEX4SFF8639/dp/B072JK2XLC
I don't have an image currently as nothing is very organized yet and my server is in another room, but I've got a Dell Optiplex 790 desktop PC running as a pfsense, an Asus AC88U, Cyberpower 1500 UPS (for my desktop, pfsense, and router), then a refurbished HP ProLiant DL360 G7 that I bought a year ago that hosts most of my setup (running xenserver with 6 VM's): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GVP9P9J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Honestly not sure if this counts as a homelab though.
(apologies if I didn't use the right terminology, this is my very first post/comment)
hate to be that guy, but this is going for $316 shipped new on amazon

These should work for 2.5" drives (at least according to the info)

These are good for 3.5" drives

I believe these are the ones I put in mine. Easy to do. Unit is very quiet now.
