We have an openly gay runner on our team, came out I think his sophomore year and everybody was fine with it. He worried about it just like you since we all made gay jokes, and we still do since he's fine with it and shit even joins in LOL.
Also, every summer we have one of my coach's friend come out to run with us. He's an awesome guy and his travails of being the first openly gay coach is an amazing story. Trailblazing

Some people may not like the color, but it's a super comfortable flat. If I don't like any of the new flats coming out this season, I'll be wearing those again.
