I did everything with an sm58 for a long time, but that's because I couldn't afford anything beyond that. So you don't really need anything else, but If you have the budget for it, I'd recommend a large diaphragm condenser (LDC) mic for vocals. AKG 220 is a solid mic, I've used one for years.
Small diaphragm condenser mics are good for acoustic instruments. I got a used pair of Audix ADX51s recently and they've been awesome. Make sure your interface supports phantom power if you get any condenser mics.
Also for recording electric guitar, I like to use two mics, one LDC and one dynamic mic (sm57/sm58). Each mic pointed at a speaker cone (my amp has two speakers).
I'm not sure I've mentioned it here yet (the others I probably have) but I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb is one of my favorite books. It's long and heavy, but worth it- I've read it several times.
Bunk: The Rise of Hoaxes, Humbug, Plagiarists, Phonies, Post-Facts, and Fake News was a really cool book, the author has a great way with words and it's less Trump-related than you might think.
I also like Everything Is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer, and classics like Wuthering Heights and A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. John Steinbeck is my favorite author and East Of Eden is my favorite book.
Incoming list of surprisingly easy recipes.
Cornish hens though can easily be used for any whole poultry
Chic-fil-a style sandwiches but easier than the site's actual replica
no bake cheesecake
similar to the first cornish hen but with chicken
super easy carne asada (need decent blender though)
my go to asian chicken recipe because it's easy
if you don't love chicken satay we can't be friends
fusilli a la vodka easy and delicious
easiest mac and cheese recipe other than the box
if you're feeling real fancy this short rib recipe will be expensive but my god is it amazing (spend $50 just on the meat when I made it last week) and you get to look like you're a master french chef with minimal effort
I also suggest checking out The cookbook the Food Lab by J kenji lopez-alt

What are the best Bobby Womack albums to start with?
My dad and I had this two hour conversation the other day about soul and funk that ultimately culminated in me showing him Anderson .Paak and him saying he loved how unique .Paak's voice is and that .Paak is going to do something special. Highlight for him were "Celebrate" and the latter half of "Glowed Up" with Kaytranada.
Then he gave me this Bobby Womack greatest hits album. It looks like most of the songs are early to mid '70s, it's real good. Highlights for me are "Daylight" and "Harry Hippie."
Cool moment just because me and my dad typically end up arguing when we talk that long. Hit me with those Womack recommendations!
It's was hastily written and poorly researched. Also a ton of errors in it, like misspelling some of his song titles and stuff. Even the author apologized for it a few years ago, like "dude they really wanted something out for the first anniversary of his death." He also didn't really interview anyone who knew him IIRC so it's just a bad read all around.
Def recommend this one: Elliott Smith by Autumn De Wilde She knew him really well and directed the Son of Sam video, so it's a cool picture book/collection of interviews about his life with close friends of his. Comes with a nice live show of his as well so def worth it.
The other good one is the 33 1/3 about XO. Really well researched and there's a lot of insight into the recording process. He actually spoke to everyone involved and goes into his artist history really well.
If you can find Torment Saint for like, a dollar and you're bored, maybe give it a go. Otherwise, save your time
Probably not what you're looking for, but my quintessential Thanksgiving album is Trav'ling Home: American Spirituals 1770-1870. Unfortunately it's not on any streaming service (that I know of). A sample.
As for Christmas music, I listen to a lot of very ancient, liturgical-sounding stuff that allows me to sublimate my agnosticism in a haze of latinate, barely-decipherable tradition. I also love choral renditions of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, which I would love Kanye to do a cover of and entitle God Rest Yeezy.
Hey thankyou - I appreciate that (and everyone else that has replied positively so far). I have days where I feel more confident about posting and then days where I spend hours typing out posts and then deleting them over and over. I know everyone here is generally super friendly really.
I'm about to reply to all the PMs I've got and then will check I've caught everyone else who replied as well.

I love the Beatles but also love honest, intelligent criticisms of their work (which are hard to find!). That’s why my favorite book on them is Ian MacDonald’s [Revolution In The Head](Revolution in the Head: The Beatles' Records and the Sixties https://www.amazon.com/dp/0805042458/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_L3zMAbX693B63), it’s not afraid to say certain (popular) Beatles’ songs are failures in execution or just aren’t that interesting. Elijah Wald’s [How the Beatles Destroyed Rock ‘n’ Roll: An Alternative History of American Popular Music](How the Beatles Destroyed Rock 'n' Roll: An Alternative History of American Popular Music https://www.amazon.com/dp/019975697X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_C6zMAbZJ462H3) advances a different but equally compelling argument against band (it’s not as damning as the title makes it seem)
This is probably a long shot, but has anyone else here heard of the band It's a Wise Child? I used to love them back in the day and I randomly tried to see what they'd been up to recently and I can't find anything online. I'm assuming they broke up but I was hoping maybe they had more material somewhere than the one album I have from them.

All I could find was this bio from the label for their debut album and the album on Amazon.

Anyway, even if you haven't heard of them before you should check this album out. It's really great. Roofbeams, Pt 1 & 2 in particular is incredible.
Headphones are Sennheiser HD 650s, speakers are JBL LSR305s, and right now I'm using the Micca OriGen+ for my DAC/Amp. For earbuds I just use some random pair I got off massdrop.com for like 30 bucks.
Pretty satisfied for now, but I'm hoping to upgrade to the Crack 1.1 OTL for an amp and the HRT Music Streamer II + for the DAC so that I can get the full quality out of my HD 650s.
Satisfied with the JBLs and the Micca for a speaker setup for now, at least as far as digital stuff goes. A good few years down the road I might want to get around to building an analog setup from scratch since my old one is completely defunct and scrapped. For which I'd probably grab some passive speakers, but I also need to get an all new turntable and possibly a new CD player, so I don't even want to start thinking about it.
In addition to researching film feverishly in high school, I took one class in college and felt like I knew everything. I'd highly recommend you check out the book American Cinema / American Culture. Its a textbook, but it's actually fun to read and gives you great examples of theory and practice with good movies.
The volatility in the marketplace has been fairly predicted in the previous months. Interest rates rose from the Fed, temporary trading restrictions overseas in China had been lifted, oil prices are plunging, etc. In general, sticking with an index like the S&P is a sound investment for longterm growth and sustainability.
I work in finance, and one of the very best books on investment is hands down A Random Walk Down Wall Street. I highly recommend it. I also recommend The Black Swan and The Misbehavior of Markets.
I will also plug /r/headphones as a good place to get advice for this kind of stuff.
First of all, don't get the amp just yet. You won't need it unless you can't get your music to a listenable volume. Get the headphones, try them out, and you will know if you need the amp. At this point, you the thirty bucks you would spend on that would be better used towards headphones.
As for what I use, [these] (http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Momentum-Headphone-Brown/dp/B009QV15DU) are on my head currently. They are very comfortable, basically shut out the world when I have music playing, and sound utterly fantastic. However, they don't handle blazingly fast music as well as slower music, so I wouldn't recommend them for stuff like really technical metal (Stoner and Sludge metal are still great with them.)
As for you... My advice is to do your research. Don't grab the HD598's of the M50X's just because people buzz about them. Both are great, so you can't go wrong with either of them, but you might not be a fan of the "house" sound signature of either of those brands. Go on Head Fi or other headphone websites, watch headphone reviews on youtube (I particularly like Z Reviews.) That way, you know what you're buying and what you're getting into.
nope, no outside help other than like getting opinions from people i trust in the scene here to see if it reminds them of anything. but im using a lot of sounds, i dont really want to put too many details out there but vocals, percussion, synths mostly. i would like to work in some guitar at some point but right now im just going with the flow, if a musical passage asks for it then it shall receive
no thats the thing, its this book my friend was telling me about and i really wanted to read and its shipped from Amazon. i dont understand, ive never had this problem before. and they act like theyre sending a vaccine to the CDC or some shit, my girlfriend went up there the first day and they said they wouldnt give it to her, that i had to sign for it. i feel like im caught in a game of keep away with this postal service
lolxD!! yeah thats been me, i still cant believe i missed them yesterday
