Yeah, this is hard without seeing the room! I don't see anything wrong with buying two of the one you liked the most, though. I found two other suggestions for you: one and two. They are also a shot in the dark, haha :)

For starters, maybe get the cords hidden a bit with something like this: Wiremold CMK10 Mate Cord Organizer Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015EA3P2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_frUOzbMPCWMB2

You may even want to wrap the power cord around the AC unit so it doesn't drop down and that huge knot isn't sitting there.

Cord hider will also be good to run down the wall - maybe you could even plug in a short extension cord so the big nub for whatever else needs to be plugged in sits on the floor instead of on the wall.

I don't know if the switch next to the power outlet powers anything, or if it's just for the AC. You could look into different outlets that may clean up how that looks.

Short cord runs, cord hiders, and right angles will make this look a lot cleaner.

As said, the sofa should go on the long wall to the left of the kitchen. Your seating should never leave your back to the front entrance. Hang the tv on the shorter wall if possible. It's okay if the section covers that first window. Adding drapes and a plant to the opposite corner will fill it out.

If you don't already have a table, I highly recommend a counter-height table (similar to this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G2N1UL6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_1Njmzb6EHNRK1) and set it up to act as an island when not in use for dining. Keep the chairs only on the outside of the kitchen and store the extra chairs as bar stools along the outside of that counter next to the living room (since that looks like that's what it is set up for). It's a beautiful space.

It's a bit more traditional, but I purchased this one from Amazon and like it a lot. It holds quite a few plants, and you can customize how it's assembled to some extent. It's decent quality and the assembly took about 10 minutes tops.

First off, this is my first real apartment. I've had university apartments, that were utter trash compared to this. no carpet, mason walls. ugh.

So since I am in college, I am on a big time budget, which meant that couldn't have that slick modern look that most people will say I need to go for. But I can still use some advice from those that know interior design.

  • As you can see, the living room plays off the American Flag and Minimal City Art with reds and blues. In addition, I will Iron the Flag out and frame it to make it more presentable, or in the least, just pin it on the wall so its straight and not wavy.

  • I feel as though the blue curtains are too dark. I haven't ironed them out and made them look good, because I may want to return them for another set. Thoughts?

  • Area Rug is one last big piece I'm missing. I was going to get this blue rug, but I Don't want to over do it if this is bad choice. I feel like this is important in tying the room together and brightening it up

  • One potential option is to move the shoe rack to the bedroom and get a small chair of some sort to but there instead. But again, idk what.

Here it is so far.
My memory foam pillows aren't here yet so it looks a bit empty. Also it turns out the throw pillows were just covers. I'll pick up some inserts later.
I'm not 100% sure about the throw pillow covers (I laid them out just to see what they would look like) so I ordered these to replace them.
I think the grey chevron ones will go downstairs.
The rug and duvet cover were definitely both thanks to you! I'm interested in that first set of curtains you linked too, but I may save that for another date.

Do you have any white or light-colored trim in your house? Painting the fireplace a light neutral would really help it not feel so heavy. Ideally, I'd replace the mantle with a stained wood one that matches your floor or kitchen wood.

For cable management, we have this in black and like it.

For decorating the mantle, if you have some books to stand up on one side and something heavy to use as a bookend, that would be nice. And then on the other side, something tall or sculptural. Try taking the hanging pictures down for a week or two and let the wall breath.

I got them from Amazon... I really like them out of the box. They are actually metal legs with a wood grain texture. And the chairs are very comfortable to sit in. It came in a set of 4.. Here’s a link

I'd go with something like this, something with a little bit of an aged feel and maybe some rounded elements to break up the hard lines created by the couch, rug, and entertainment center.

Most of the Edison style bulbs will give off the warm amber glow, but you can find them in a cooler/brighter tone.

I found these ones on Amazon. There are other available with a bit more digging.

5000 - 6500 kelvin is apparently the equivalent of natural daylight, the higher the kelvin, the whiter the light in produces, so any bulb around 5000k should be about right.

Honestly, I don't like either. But red typically turns me off. What metal do you have in your bathroom? I always prefer something less cup-like. What about something like this in the metal matching your bathroom...

ADDITIONAL INFO:

I'm looking for a throw pillow as well as a blanket for the foot of my bed! For the pillow I'm thinking something with a different texture (velvet, knit, fur, dunno) and maybe a knit for the blanket? Again, dunno. I'm new to this whole "caring about my surroundings" thing. I'm just looking for one throw pillow, I don't want to deal with having a bunch of pillows I have to move every morning and night. Also, don't know if relevant, but the metal colour for my room is gold.
