Hey buddy,
I have few tips for you...

Phone interviews are common occurrences these days. That is because phone interviews are a cost-effective way for companies to screen first candidates. These interviews usually last 20-30 minutes and are recorded to analyze the candidate later.

If the candidate passes this interview, the next step is the in-person- interview. Therefore, it is important to prepare for these interviews since you may have to go through an initial phone interview initially. Here is a list of things you should do to prepare for phone interviews:

  1. Place your resume, job description, and application letter in front of you. This helps you quickly fact-check things in case you forget.

  2. Direct the interviewer to your LinkedIn profile (if you have one, and if not, go to build one) for demonstrating your work.

  3. Speak slowly but clearly during the call. Do not interrupt the interviewer while he/she talks and listen attentively. After he/she finishes, take a 2-second pause and then reply.

  4. Give concise and to-the-point answers because phone interviews do not tend to be long. Generally, interviewers call to verify some information such as your qualifications, knowledge, and skill set so he/she can decide if you are worth shortlisting and worth inviting for an in-person interview.

Oof yeah sad to say you kina did screw yourself.

Try to avoid giving the first number for your salary for this reason. When they ask reflect it back to them and ask what they believe is a fair salary for the position.

Also check Glassdoor beforehand and get an idea of the salary range for the job.

You CAN techincally counter offer, it will not go over well and they actually may pullback the offer so i wouldnt recommend doing this over $2k a year. Focus on getting a good raise or pass on the job and tray again if you really want somewhere else. Personally. I'd like the $48k if everything is good.

I feel okay promoting my book here because it is currently free and it will help in the future. The Art of Salary Negotiation: How to Get Paid What You Deserve and Feel Empowered Doing It
