Hi! I'd be happy to share some info. I didn't actually go to school for Computer Science so I learned everything I know from the internet really. When I first started learning programming in general, I started with a course in C http://www.computerscienceforeveryone.com/. I think it was a pretty good intro into computer science in general too. There were a lot of concepts in that course that were really hard for me to grasp at first and honestly pretty boring at times, but I stuck with it and I feel like it set me up for objective-C and iOS programming pretty well.

Moving on to iOS programming. The Big Nerd Ranch book was the best iOS development book I read. It's chock full of good tutorials and good explanations of concepts. It was just updated to the 4th edition to and is available on amazon.com

Finally getting into iOS Game Development, I think Ray Wenderlich's tutorials were the best help for me. Most of the iOS game dev stuff out there right now is mostly for Cocoa's 2d (which is great!). However, I wanted to try out Sprite Kit since it's newer and I think it's eventually going to surpass cocoa's 2d as the standard for iOS 2d game development. There aren't a lot of resources out there beyond apple's guide (which is good in my opinion) Sprite Kit Documentation
Ray Wenderlich has a great Sprite Kit book out with all kinds of great information that makes game development on the iPhone easy. Here is a link to his book: http://www.raywenderlich.com/store/ios-games-by-tutorials

I hope that answered some of your questions. Feel free to ask more if you had any other questions, or if I missed something. Thanks for trying out the game. I hope you like it :)

Ray Wenderlich tutorials are usually very good if you want help with some specific area.

Apples documentation is great so you can make this your starting point when learning Swift: https://developer.apple.com/swift/

As for iOS and the operating system you can’t go wrong with books by Big Nerd Ranch. Their latest and greatest iOS guide hasn’t released yet but it’s very, very good and ultimately how I became an iOS developer (although I knew a bit of programming but so do you :)).

It's a controller standard for iOS devices that allows developers to easily add support for a wide range of gamepads that adhere to that standard. In the bad old days, developers would have to specifically code their games to recognize each individual model of gamepad they wanted to support, so most didn't even bother. There are a bunch of different MFi controllers out there now, but IMO the best one is the SteelSeries Nimbus. It doesn't have a clip for holding your phone, but clips designed for the Xbox One controller will usually work okay with the Nimbus. I got one from AliExpress a while back that I don't think is available there anymore, but this one appears to be identical.

Terraria is currently FREE (December 24, 2014) on Amazon app store, so maybe you could download that for free, pay for Minecraft PE, and then make up your mind which is better.

> That's just what's left after apple

The point is not to end up with the same amount of money. It's to turn the money into legal money with a paper trail. That way you can pay your taxes and keep off the radar of the IRS.

It looks like another avenue that the IRS likely have not caught up to yet. I thought the norm was creating best selling books (see the "also bought" section).

If you want to learn more with an interesting story, just watch Ozarks.

Wow, what games does that controller actually work with?

And about the OP, seems like a cool idea, I like the fact that in MC3 you can just tap on it and it'll fire, but still, maybe makes it like 4% easier... Oye I really wish they would have released an official controller for iPad already. It's in such need of one it's not even funny.

I have a Fling that I thought I'd use a ton, but really never bust it out anymore, just because it really isn't that efficient.

it’s pretty decent! i’ve only had it for 2 days. it’s not MEANT for xbox controller but it fits okay. it’s worth the $9 price tag. a bit confusing to set up initially but you’re good after you understand how it works.

I got this one if anyone is curious. Works great and is super secure. Hard to get on but once its in place, it is rock solid. You can also adjust angle of the phone to your confort which is a big plus.

Yeah, you can't just slap a theme on a game though. The game mechanics and the theme need to work off of each other.

I recommend reading some books about game design. These two are both really good:

Ive been using the official sony one (Sony GCM10), works amazingly. The suction works great and the clip holds it securely.

Valid points, you won’t regret your choice!

I got something similar to this for my PS4 controller and I absolutely love it.

I can’t speak for this model exactly, but a clip of this sort really makes gaming on the phone more enjoyable.

Well, I don't look at many MFi accessories, but the ones I DO look at are pretty expensive, at least for me. Where half the cost is because of the MFi license.

I already had purchased this case here for my ipad, and I typically do one of two things.

  • If I'm sitting at a table I'll prop my iPad up like this
  • If I'm in a recliner, or on a couch, or sitting up in bed I have a thick memory foam pillow that is hard enough to rest my forearms on while I hold the iPad up, and is much more comfortable.
u/Tocamac · 1 pointr/iosgaming

All you need is a case that allows multiple viewing angles such as this one ( http://www.amazon.com/Fintie-iPad-Pro-Case-Rotating/dp/B0191EMW4C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1451515767&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=IPad+pro+case&psc=1 ) and you can use it in bed quite comfortably. I've been using mine this way since I got it about ten days ago without any problems!

I use the Steelseries Nimbus for my iPad/Apple TV, and for my iPhone on the go I use another Nimbus coupled with this clip (they stopped production so the price became ridiculous - I got mine for $10).

EDIT: According to this post, you can buy a clip for the nimbus for pretty cheap online.

I also have the CTRLi and the Stratus, but I prefer the Nimbus because it supports Bluetooth 4 LE, which seems to provide less lag and longer battery life in my experience. It's also the most supported controller - Apple sometimes breaks compatibility with other controllers between iOS versions.

u/gannonburgett · 1 pointr/iosgaming

Yea, I don't see one for that low now, but there is a seller with a refurbished Nimbus for $30. The seller seems to have a good rating and overall appear reliable.

Looks like the cheap clip I bought from Amazon (Germany)

This is what I use on my iPad pro, and I have had 2 hour sessions of Civ VI and in the summer heat of Qld. Works a treat and never over heated.
