Just a few weeks ago I modded my BW iPod 4th Gen. I used this SD to CF adapter, and this CF to IDE adapter. Sadly, it looks like it's out of stock. The one that the other person linked looks good. Always read the reviews.

I also recommend checking out this thread over at MacRumors. It has a lot of invaluable information about this mod. OP did it with a photo, but many others have done it with BW 4th gens, and there are even a few third gens. Reading through it gives you an idea of the issues other people have run into and how to fix them. Also a good place to go if you run into issues.

Best of luck to you! Let me know if you have any questions.

These will fit everything that I’ve got excepted the 3rd gen shuffle. The 1st gen shuffle doesn’t fit “into the slot” but balance in the supports; I use double sided tape on the back for security.

These are only for the 3rd gen shuffle.

These are for the big dogs.😊

That's a great addition, I love mine. I added this Bluetooth adapter and am quite happy with the combo.

CF card here and battery here. A couple things worth noting about the battery are that the website says it is 650mah, but the one I received says 700mah. Also, the battery is ever so slightly thicker than the original, so I had to remove the rubber boot from the CF card to make it fit, and even after that it's a tight fit. That being said, the results are totally worth it!

I used this — like $7, seems to be working fine:

Insten Li-Ion Replacement Battery Compatible With Apple iPod Video 5th Generation 60G / 80G https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001A4Q8JM?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Man, I love how simple and elegant this thing is. Amazing.

Your hard drive died. It happens..the drive in there has got to be 10 years old now, and it was the tiniest little hard drive you ever did see, anyways. Luckily, replacing the hard drive is not only super easy, but prices have gone down so much that you can replace it with 128GB for quite a reasonable price.

Parts I have used with success:

Ordered the 80gb iPod Video 5.5, for about $50 on eBay. It arrived in phenomenal condition with all OEM parts. Ordered 4x 256gb micro sd cards during Amazon Prime day (they were on sale for $30 each).

Below are some quick tips I have:

  • Search eBay for new listings. Set alerts on your phone for new listings (i.e. "iPod Video 5.5", "iPod Video Wolfson", "iPod Video Enhanced"). People tend to find an old iPod they haven't used in years locked away in some drawer, and end up listing it for a cheap buy-it-now price not knowing what it's worth.

  • If you get a good condition iPod Video, practice repairing lesser condition ones before you upgrade your nicer one. A lot can go wrong during the process (I accidentally broke two iPod Videos before working on this one). BE CAREFUL WITH THE BATTERY RIBBON CONNECTOR! It breaks off the logic board extremely easily.

  • If you break the battery ribbon connector during the repair / upgrade process, look into buying a new logic board. They're about $20 - $30 on eBay. iFixit also has these available, and they're a phenomenal company if you're looking for parts / tools.

  • Consider getting a metal dental pick. In my experience, these help immensely with handling the ribbon connectors throughout the iPod.

  • Have multiple opening tools readily available and take your time when opening up the iPod.

  • Consider replacing the battery as you're working inside the iPod. iFixit has these readily available with or without tools for affordable prices (and they're safety certified which is great).

  • Read guides beforehand, and during the process

I know this is completely different from the sleeve you are using, but I have had a silicone case on my Classic for over 4 years. It keeps the iPod just like new. I love mine. LINK

u/phattmatt · 2 pointsr/ipod

That's great! :-)

Thanks for letting me know it worked for you. After re-reading the steps above I realised I used "AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition" rather than "Easeus Partition Master" that the original poster suggested, maybe AOMEI is easier to time (I hit apply just before the iPod restore process hit 100% on the bar).

As I mentioned above, when I replaced the Compact Flash Micro SD card adapter with another one, I didn't have this problem. Here's a link to the adapter that worked for me without this work around:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B019REDBY6

I used the same Micro SD card as before, but with the Micro SD to SD adapter that it came with.

I just did this very same mod about a half hour ago and it went great! iTunes was able to detect and restore the iPod, and I'm currently uploading music now

u/PM_ME_MEMES_PLZ · 2 pointsr/ipod

ok so for the cf adapter I used the digigear found here. it works great and would highly recommend. for the sd card itself I used a 128gb sandisk microsd with an adapter. Now for the battery, I bought an ipod mini on ebay found here. Honestly I really cheaped out on the battery and so far for the day I've been using it it's been good. Reviews for the product are pretty mixed so I'll PM you in a few days after I've seen if I got fucked or not. It was $6 though so worst case scenario I'll bitch at the seller if it fails and buy one from ifixit for $15.

I have this...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0056BUVES/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm not in love with it, but the best I was able to find at the time.

As annoying as the floppy dongle would be, the 3.5mm solution is the most reliable one out there.

There are some models that, while they still stick out like a sore thumb, try to keep the package as compact as possible. Here’s one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00IQYC4R4/ref=psdcmw_9926003011_t1_B01KXIKCSI

This one has mostly positive reviews: https://www.amazon.com/KOKKIA-i10s-Black-Bluetooth-Transmitter/dp/B004SH40BQ/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_23_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=50TFZDWSC8SFYH43CC3B

This one supports aptX if you have compatible Bluetooth headphones: https://www.amazon.com/KOKKIA-Luxurious-Transmitter-authentication-receivers/dp/B008PWN0I4/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_107_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=K15NQ502M06MZ4H9Y23F

u/Junetrune · 2 pointsr/ipod

Thanks for the tip! Turned out I needed to get a CF to SD card that had true IDE on it. This one here did the trick: https://www.amazon.com/Digigear-SDXCF-Extreme-Ultimate-Compact/dp/B00EPMWT1M

u/xanatori · 4 pointsr/ipod

I'm using a KOKKIA i10s with my iPod Classic 7G and AirPods. It costs $60, but its really worth it! https://www.amazon.com/KOKKIA-i10s-Black-Bluetooth-Transmitter/dp/B004SH40BQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1538599448&sr=8-3 Works with my bluetooth speaker as well.

u/Steven_the_barbarian · 1 pointr/ipod

If you mean for the iPod Classic 1/2, I've seen people have success with these: Digigear SDXCF SD SDHC SDXC to CF Type II Extreme/Ultimate Compact Flash Card Adapter, Note Not for CF Type One Slot https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EPMWT1M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_.2FZxb1B41WRQ

u/Sykotic · 4 pointsr/ipod

you don't even need a Compact flash card these days. Way cheaper to just get a CF to SD card adapter and use any SD card you have laying around. https://www.amazon.com/Digigear-SDXCF-Extreme-Ultimate-Compact/dp/B00EPMWT1M/

New battery is a worthy investment too if you're opening it up.

u/UpdateWindows · 1 pointr/ipod

No bluetooth on that iPod? Get something like this (that one's way way way too expensive)
