/u/eodgooch Thanks for your response. Annie is a rescue too, we got her when she was 8 weeks according to the Humane Society. (I had my doubts as she had no teeth yet and could fit in my one hand- and I've got tiny lady hands!)
I bottle raised her for the first 3 weeks until her teeth came in. Lucky for me I was in between jobs and had those first three weeks off, because I was feeding her puppy formula every hour-hour and a half. After that puppers went to work with Da everyday (because he has a dog friendly office).
Considering the miserable start she's had, I am always a bit worried for her. I feed her Fromm the grain-free kibbles which she seems to love.
I do add Psyllium Husk, which is a gluten free fibre product, to her breakfast (so we don't have to milk her arse glands; makes her produce a nice ahem-loaf.) and on occasion I add a little yoghourt or boiled carrots/beans/broccoli to her dinner.

Brummy is not my first dog, however he is my first JRT and the first dog I've clicker trained and I will stand behind this method 100%. It works so well. Just make sure you understand the method as well and give the dog a chance to get what you're trying to do. He is up to 15 "tricks" now and he's only a year old. Whenever I pull out the clicker and gets excited and pays attention. I usually throw the ball around a couple of times to get some of the energy out of him before we start anything new.
I would get him around other dogs at a young age. Big and small. It helps them be more friendly and not freak out everytime they see another dog.
I would look into getting an antler for a solitude toy. They last forever and he loves his.

Another comment about their intelligence. My last service dog was a JRT, and he was my pet before he was ever doing any working dog stuff ... his intelligence got him into all kinds of trouble before it ever worked to my benefit! Really keep an eye to "child-proofing" your dog's environment. Mine learned to open the car windows himself, escape from his car seatbelt, escape from his harness if I tried to tie him up outside and step into a building for 2 seconds without him (he'd come in and "find me," so pleased with himself for rescuing me, lol), and would eat just about anything which got poison control on my speed dial.
This toy is pricey but was far and away the best at keeping his mind engaged for more than 3 seconds. There are different variations you can do with it to increase the difficulty once they figure it out, too. Also popular among the two JRTs I've had have been those balls they have to kick around that will occasionally drop one or two kibbles out as they roll. The downside is that they're loud on your hardwood floors and get wedged under furniture, which will frustrate the hell out of the dog.
I hope that helps some. Have fun with your new buddy!
My baby (RIP) absolutely LOVED [these balls] (http://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CWRJ2EY/ref=s9_mbia_gw_d99_g199_i4?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=mobile-1&pf_rd_r=1K7WF80VDK0VAR2AHN5Q&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2068141862&pf_rd_i=mobile). They are a relatively firm rubber that bounces, is easy to clean, and jingles due to a little bell inside. He never broke one and he'd play for hours and then spend a few more hours chewing on it like a pacifier. His other favorite toys were stuffed animals. He'd rip them occasionally, but I'd just sew them for him and give them back.
Interesting but 25 pounds of kinetic sand would cost $225+
Or, here at Amazon.ca, 5kg for $85 so 3 packs w/shipping hit $250 for the best deal I could see ... or $988 for the worst deal :)
Read this book. It is very regimented but very effective. Though Jacks are always harder to train than others.
If you have a Kindle I should be able to loan it you...though I don't know how just yet :D
I use this one for my smooth-coated jack. It's rubber so it grabs the hairs and basically pulls them out most efficiently. Every other brush I've tried just makes them fly around all over the place. A rubber grooming glove works well too.
They're cute as heck.
That's an odd seat belt situation you have going on there. I recently picked some of these up, and it might be a better system than what you've got going on, especially because you already use harnesses.
My guy is the same way. He got one of the knotted ropes for Christmas. It was shredded thread all over my floor within a few hours (and that was when he was out with other toys.)
I use these Nylon Marrow bones They are great.. you can fill them with peanut butter and place it in the freezer overnight. He will spend a good deal of time and effort trying to get the peanut butter out.
Here's the product we got: SynergyLabs Richard's Organics Pet Calm
1ml per 10lbs of body weight, via a dropper right into their mouths. It's oil, so don't get it on your clothes – it'll be a nightmare to clean.

The only thing that works and is humane is a bark box. Basically, anytime she barks it makes an annoying ultrasonic sound only dogs can hear. She will very quickly learn that barking = super annoying sound and stop barking incredibly quickly.
Awwww! As bad as that is, that's really cute. Mine does that too. I bought her one of these bad boys and now she no longer destroys my personal property lol
So much destruction in a small package, am I right?
