Glad it solved your issue, hoping in the future we will have a more effective way for EAC to sort thru all the pak files for slower HDDs - its a problem of having an ever increasing file size for Squad install, and the need for anti cheat to verify files on bootup that causes the slower processing time. So A12 we did alot of optimisations but the sheer amount and size has ran us into this problem.

Alternatively if you have extra cash and were looking to do a hardware upgrade anyway, SSD's are an excellent performance boost to not just windows booting but all apps and games in general, the perf benefits are plenty and thankfully they are now quite affordable.

$30 USD well spent.

I'd argue that this is a better laptop for basically the same price; just slightly more expensive. https://www.amazon.com/N850HP6-1920x1080-i7-7700HQ-Bluetooth-Warranty/dp/B0711CDT8L/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1505106422&sr=8-5&keywords=prostar%2Bclevo&th=1
The specs are pretty close, but this has an extra 1TB HDD, a slightly better screen, multi-color customizable backlit keyboard, 2 USB 3.1 ports A&C + 1 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0 (the USB 3.1&3.0 ports are backwards compatible with 2.0 as well) and I believe higher quality RAM. But you're right, the laptop you picked out is a quality machine and if the OP already has a decent external and has no need for the internal TB HDD and doesn't need all the extra ports or fancy keyboard then yours may be the slightly more economical choice for what is still a great machine. Another thing that sticks out for me at least though is that in general Prostar has really amazing customer service and will typically service and replace parts on a machine even after warranty. Also, I'm biased because I actually have this laptop and I'm very much in love with it. It absolutely annihilates Squad and everything else I've thrown at it so far.

My current audio setup for gaming very similar to yours. I love this setup and have no interest in getting anything else and will be using this for years to come, or until something dies. The USB DAC separates it from the computer and there is zero feedback or noise and its bliss. I would definitely recommend an outside dac over onboard or in case sound card.

Sennheiser HD 598, open and closed back

USB DAC + AMP

USB sound card to plug in the mic if needed

I have a mic, it works, but for some reason squad refuses to pick it up. Anyone have a fix for this? Squad is the only game that it doesn't work in.
EDIT: Turns out my mic was set to USB in steam, just had to change it. Thanks for all the reply's and willingness to help. The mic i use is this good quality mic, but the cord is insanely long.

Try another application that records you... Play a self recording back. If it sounds like crap still, you can find a decent USB mic on Amazon for under $25 on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078W61ZYP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_i-szDbTSCMG37

I used that for a while (for even recording videos for my job) till I got a very expensive headset for a super discounted price. I actually still use it sometimes for some reason. It's just as good as my headset. I guess I like having the desk mic.

Yes, you can buy a pair on amazon for like $35. being able to hear conversations next to you while remaining hearing-safe is a great safety feature. they block sound 100% of the time and have battery microphones that pick up sound so even if they dont have power they still protect you.

$32.

Ah poop. Oh well, I'll wait for it in hopes I can play it a bit better! Thanks though!. I've been itching to get back into the game. Ah for context the laptop I'm currently using is https://www.amazon.com/G751JL-17-Inch-Gaming-Laptop-model/dp/B00T7EXKLG?th=1 . I'm not sure what information to put out for specs

I use the mix amp but I wear a pair of Audio Technica ATX-M50x. They're better headphones without getting into the audiophile sperg out range. They are a bit expensive at $150 however: https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M50x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR86/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1500426112&sr=8-3&keywords=audio+technica

Now if that's out of your budget, or if you have problems with headphones being uncomfortable, I highly recommend HyperX Cloud IIs:https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Gaming-Headset-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B00SAYCXWG/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1500426247&sr=1-3&keywords=hyperx
You can wear those all day and never get uncomfortable. They don't sound QUITE as good at the ATH but they're $50 cheaper and feel like they're made with the same quality.

"You ain't shit"- you really like this insult don't you? I recommend branching out: https://www.amazon.com/Kids-Book-Insults-Strasser/dp/081674128X

"where the fuck do they get off to start lecturing everyone else who was doing their job?" - When did anyone try to lecture anyone in this thread other than the people who are advocating the nonsense that should earn you a kick from the squad? Maybe I'm missing something, or your reading comprehension isn't as great as you think it is.

"You know SL can run their own squads right? You do get the gist of chain of command? They don't need your petty little lecture kiddo." -When the fuck did I lecture anyone other than people making squads but not actually wanting to squad lead? Again, I think your reading ability aint too great there kiddo.

300 hours of arma but you never played in any sort of organized setting? Woop dee do. Sounds like 300 hours of Atlis life/ king of the hill. Who gives a single fuck?

"Best of luck finding an NCO to use your tonsils as a speedbag." Aw cute, you think that's going to offend anyone.

Entitlement is coming to a game that has been running for more than ten years and having zero interest in learning its ins and outs or what its community etiquette might be. But what do I know "I aint shit."

Thanks, those look good.
Before purchasing a new PC I'd consider trying installing an SSD like this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-MX500-CT1000MX500SSD1-Internal-NAND/dp/B077SF8KMG

If you haven't used Windows/games on one before, the difference is day and night vs using a HDD.

You can clone your HDD to this SSD with Macrium Reflect or reinstall Windows for a clean start.

I highly recommend you get a 1440p, 144hz, 27 inch monitor. This give you a significant advantage in spoting, view distance and reaction time. Here is mine https://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2716DG-Gaming-Computer-Monitor/dp/B072DV4KCP . This is hands down my most useful PC component.

I've heard good things! I just finished my copy of The Great Gamble and am working my way through The Bear Went Over the Mountain.

If you're coming from CS/COD/BF the biggest thing to learn is to not treat Squad like those games. In COD and BF you can lone wolf it, run and gun and come out on top. Or, if you get shot, you can just take cover for a few seconds and be back to full health. With Squad, teamwork and playing tactically is paramount to success and having a good time. This is probably the hardest thing for new players to learn. The controls and base game mechanics won't take more than a couple days to understand. Aspects like bullet drop, recoil, and damage might take a week or two to get down.

For your first couple of weeks, just take the base rifleman slot and listen to your SL (Squad Leader) and learn the base mechanics of the game. If you don't have a microphone, go out and get one ASAP. A good cheap one is this Zalman clip on, but I recommend spending a bit more and going for an Antlion Modmic.

I would check Amazon for simple pair of headphones, or just use any you have.

As for a mic, try something like...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00029MTMQ/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_bqTsDbNRWSY1T

I use this one for travel, you might have to turn up your gain and boost and use Push To Talk but for 7$ you'll get a fully functional mic. You just have to clip it to your headphone wire.

I would also use audio mixing software to tune how your voice sounds and put noise suppression filters on it, but it should work out of the box regardless.

The AKG 7xx's are good. The only thing is that you have to buy a standalone mic.

u/timothyTammer22 · 1 pointr/joinsquad

That's not true

I use [this] (https://www.amazon.com/Zalman-Zm-Mic1-Sensitivity-Headphone-Microphone/dp/B00029MTMQ) and its much better than the built in mic that came with either of my $150+ gaming headsets. People have no trouble hearing me
