I also collect figures, though I'm the type of collector that's really picky about the quality of the figures I get, so I only consider the ones that have (in my opinion) an outstanding sculpt and paintjob, even if it means paying a higher price. Thus, all of the figures below are from Goodsmile and Max Factory.

  • If you don't know about these, you'll probably like them: reverse-action tweezers. The example in link are Tamiya, but you can pick up cheaper versions from other companies. Reverse-action tweezers are closed by default, you squeeze them to open them. It can take a bit of getting used to, but it's very handy to be able to just concentrate on manipulation of the parts only instead of manipulating the part and making sure you have a good grip on them. Also, when pre-fitting, if you realize the piece won't fit, reverse-actions are great because you can just put them aside still holding the piece while you futz with the model then pick up where you left off.

  • Always pre-fit.

  • For pieces like antennas, always use the tweezers to hold the piece at the "base" (the end where the antenna goes into the slotting hole) - you ideally want to have just the tab that goes into the hole exposed "below" the tweezer grip while the majority of the rest of the antenna is sticking out "above" the tweezers. This will give you much more positive control over the piece without breaking it.

  • If the hole is too small, use a hand-powered hobby drill with a bit that is slightly larger than the antenna to widen slotting holes that are too fiddly. This will make sure the antenna fits easily. A tiny drop of liquid glue should be enough to stick the antenna into the desired spot in the hole. Once it is set, you can fill the rest of the hole (if it is noticeable) with something like Mr. Surfacer or Modelling Putty. Remember: It's relatively easy to fill in a slightly larger hole and hide it on the final model as opposed to the frustration of pushing in an antenna into a too-tiny hole.

  • If you break the antenna, really tiny antennas and so on can be successfully replaced using photo-etch. Sometimes you can use needles or toothpicks depending on the thickness. If these options are not for you, melt some sprue. Snip a 4 inch (10cm) piece of spare sprue. Hold the center of the sprue over a cigarette lighter flame until the plastic starts to look shiny, then gently pull it apart. The plastic will cool (very) quickly back into hardness. Once it hardens, you can just clip a piece of suitable length and thickness free of the stretched sprue.

I really love and want that Shimakaze figure, but I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to see the reaction of when my family or friends walk into my room and see a figure of a girl with her ass basically out lol

Kind of unrelated but here is an interesting display idea I found to display a different Shimakaze figure. It's a model of the actual battleship, and the base is designed to fit the Shimakaze figure in front of it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013JS0AMC?keywords=shimakaze%20figure&qid=1453322712&ref_=sr_1_11&sr=8-11

Sure first here's the LED strips, Power Adapters, and Dimmer. Looks like they've gone up in price a bit since I did it but it's still not too bad. I didn't take any in progress pictures so I'll just have to describe how setup went. The LED strips come with a sticky back side so I just stuck that to the poles on the front side of the Detolf. I used 1 LED strip, 1 dimmer, and 1 power adapter per 2 Detolfs but you could also use 1 strip per Detolf. This will give you more even lighting, and the power adapter should still be able to handle powering 2 fine, you'd just need to also buy a connector for the 2 strips. After you've got the stuff its as simple as just taping on the stip in a |‾| running from the outside poles and across the top of the Detolf, running the power cord outside of it through the gap in the door, and the plugging in the dimmer.

Unless I'm misinterpreting, I think you can actually order this from amazon JP with global shipping: click me

On a sidenote, that's a pretty great song!

CDJapan is one that pops up in my head

AmazonJP is another that does, but if you don't mind paying around 900 yen shipping, it comes within 2-5 days depending where you live (I would recommend AmazonJP's Shipping rates compared to other sites, but that's just me as I reside in the US)

Animate also offers it, but I'm not sure what is their shipping and total.

TLDR, you can find it on most websites that offer Japanese Merchandises available online :)

You can try the Ultra Pro Pro Dual deckbox.

It's designed to carry two sleeved Magic decks with sideboards (2x 75 cards) and comes with two plastic separators, which can help you sort. It's also cheap (7 or 8 bucks) and is available on Amazon Prime. A good compromise of carrying capacity and compactness for transportation.

The shitstorm makes perfect sense when it you recognize it is the type of mistake KanColle made rather than the mistake itself. The problem is that Kantai Collection is a game that is almost five years old, and that thrives on its community interactions. Most of the endearment towards characters are generated by fan-made content. I have changed my opinions on many different characters based on reading various fan manga and artwork. Kantai Collection is the best example you can find of the database model work put forward by Hiroki Azuma in his book.

The collective interaction that is Kantai Collection means that the developers need to be responsive to fan feedback if they want the work to be successful. Intrepid's character design was a tone deaf move that was dismissive of fans' desires. It showed that the developers either didn't listen to their fans, or thought they could get away with ignoring their fans. It breaks the illusion that the fans are partners in this enterprise as opposed to subordinates.

To put it in perspective, the feelings that fans experienced over Intrepid is the same feeling that causes rebellions and revolts in the real world. The Stamp Act of 1765 is what galvanized many of the American colonialist into opposing the Crown, and British inability to effectively respond and compromise resulted in the American Revolution.

I don't use that example to say that Intrepid's design is the same as the American Revolution, but to say that humans have clear and predictable psychological responses to actions by those in authority. This incident won't cause a revolution or revolt, but it could very well destroy the Kantai Collection franchise if the developers can't effectively respond. KanColle's saving grace is that there isn't strong competition. Azur Lane is the closest thing, but it has its own flaws and isn't in a position to exploit Kantai Collection.

Like a little fold up cloth box, and the lights are on tiny tripods like this?

The "best" book i can advice is Japanese Destroyer Captain by Tameichi Hara. He was the captain of Amatsukaze, Shigure and later Yahagi at operation Ten-go. It describes the whole war from his view as leading officer and is very good to read, well written and very insightful. The book is sure a good place to start and you'll find many many names and places you will recognize.
