I would personally go with something that has a reservoir, and preferably a removable one. I believe one of your options has that(edit: just looked, it’s your first choice - 36oz reservoir. Not removable but still will save you hassle of measuring an exact cup each time). For $80 you can get the classic, which has a 48 oz removable reservoir. I have this one, and usually only use it on the weekends: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01BOU6DLE/ref=psdcmw_2474054011_t1_B07DRPYZ85
I used to have a single serve Hamilton Beach when I didn’t feel like spending the money, but it was messy trying to fill it when the cup lip might cause water to spill backwards. Any one that will keep extra water on hand is a godsend. Plus, you can put any pod in there OR use the adapter pod (I don’t know what it’s officially called) for grounds.
Hope that helps!
Almost all of the Keurigs and other K-Cup brewers will dispense just hot water, you just press the brew button without a K-cup in the brewer.
This is a reusable K-cup for using your own coffee.
Some other things to consider, is cup sizes and water capacity. Most brewers have more options on how much water to dispense for a cup of coffee. Which is handy when you want to make smaller or larger cups of coffee. Along with that, some have larger hoppers that hold water before it gets heated for making a beverage. The only real benefit of a large water tank is you don't have to fill it as often. If your boyfriend is only a light coffee drinker, the tank size wouldn't matter too much as it wouldn't get drained that often anyway.
All that being said, This is probably the least expensive one, only does 8 ounce cups, only holds enough water for one cup.
Something like This is your typical Keurig, 3 cup sizes (6,8,10 oz), 48 oz water reservoir
Personally, I have a model very similar to This one except I bought it from Costco. You can set it to automatically turn on and off in the morning on a timer, 5 cup sizes (4,6,8,10,12 oz) and a 72 ounce reservoir.
I would recommend looking at Costco, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, etc. because you occasionally run into some deals. Good Luck.
Sounds like you have a build up issue! Amazon sells one, which works really good and pretty cheap. My wife swears by it!

I know exactly what you mean. I had the same problem until I started using these things:
https://www.amazon.com/Disposable-Filters-Brewers-Replacement-Reusable/dp/B00BUFJBQS/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1542031332&sr=8-6&keywords=kcup+filter
They will filter out the "gritty stuff" in the coffee. There are other versions of these filters, but they all work the same. Works like a charm. Hope this helps.
With the exeption of something like the Cuisinart SS-300 (http://amzn.com/B006OP8XMC) or the Keurig K10 (http://amzn.com/B00E2HKZL6), that don't have any water in them until you put it there, MOST Keurig brewers have about (by my guess) 4-5oz of hot water in it at all times to speed up brewing. That's where the heating element is that comes on every once in a while, and why the pump then the heating light come on after your cuppa is finished brewing. You push a button, it throws some water from the reservoir into the REALLY hot water, and it heats that for less time because it's already pretty warm, and then dispenses the hot water, and fills itself back up and heats the fresh water in it's reservoir to get ready for the next brew cycle.
So lets say you brew your Chai. You then proceed to dump out the water from the reservoir, and dump in the Chai. But the indicator says you're out of water. Because it won't run with just a few oz in the tank. So, on my warning, you brewed three cups. Now it'll run. You run a cup through to get the water out of the reservoir and then you throw a fresh k-cup in the maker and hit the button again. Maybe it burns the chai, maybe not, but it's not going to do the heating element any favors. Then it proceeds to dispense your half-burned half-regular chai, and then your machine sucks in straight chai for the next cup. So you then have to rinse the dispenser (chai latte means you have to wash it, powdered milk), and run a few regular cups to get the straight chai out of the reservoir and off the dispenser.
It's just not worth it. 10-15 brew cycles to maybe get back to normal, wasted time. Just get an electric kettle an do it by hand if you want stronger. Not like it's difficult.
Cool. I love it when easy answers solve problems.
I make a mixture of 3 parts baking soda and 5 parts food-grade epsom salt (https://www.amazon.com/Pure-Organic-Ingredients-Magnesium-All-Natural/dp/B075MV4F58/ref=sr_1_2_sspa) , then add 1/4 teaspoon of that mixture to a gallon of our well water. Then I use that as my Keurig water. If I'm going through a lazy phase, I'll buy the Walmart "drinking water" (not distilled) and use that without adding anything, but the water I mix up myself seems to work and taste better.
yes, here is a nice multi use keyring. http://i.imgur.com/KIH91Fn.png
jokes aside, not really. there are different kinds of brewers but they each brew their own cups. the rivo makes espressos if you want that. i would just get a regular brewer and buy the cups that are basically faux cappuccinos like these http://www.amazon.com/Gevalia-Espresso-Packets-Caramel-Macchiato/dp/B00FPIVBJG
Not on that machine but this add-on works amazingly well
HyperChiller HC2 Patented Coffee/Beverage Cooler Ready in One Minute, Reusable for Iced Tea, Wine, Spirits, Alcohol, Juice, 12.5 oz, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FJ6J24R/
I just bought the Eco carafe (by perfect pod) at bed, bath and beyond.
It can do up to a 4-5 cup carafe and anything else. Travel mug sizes and regular cup sizes as well.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00T6TBJ5Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467682089&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=eco+carafe+for+keurig+2.0&dpPl=1&dpID=51o5QHba0kL&ref=plSrch
my k-cup doesnt work to make carafes, after I e-mailed keurig as to what I can do about it, they told they simply dont have a reusable filter for carafes. So I had to buy this carafe pod from amazon, and luckily it did work with my k400
You can find similar mesh for pipes. If you know of a shop where they sell tobacco/pipes they’ll probably have little mesh filters. (Prevents ash from coming through the pipe to the smokers mouth) They’re mesh circles the size of a dime or nickle. You usually get a bunch for just a dollar or two - you can layer them till you get the desired effect!
Something like this: Grimm SUPA 50 Brass Screens Pipe Filters - 3/4" (.75) Pipe Screens https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CBSB7Z0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1ubODbX4Q2M96
It probably depends on your model, but mine is in the water reservoir, inside a plastic holder. They look like the item pictured here: https://www.amazon.com/12-Pack-KEURIG-Water-Filters-Replacement/dp/B01DLEL4EM/ref=pd_lpo_79_tr_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=ZAEN087TXZWDY4AC1TJH
You're supposed to replace them every 2 months, so if it's been a while, I'm guessing that's the cause of your issue.
i have a Aicok k cup coffee maker, very good for travel.

Buy your favorite coffee and use one of these.

Sorry to be a nuisance... looks there is two, a new model and old model. Could you let me know which one you have? https://www.amazon.com/Keurig-Universal-Reusable-Coffee-Filter/dp/B077D3LBZF
Thanks again!

I like this one.
You can use your own coffee with the 2.0. I do this all the time. Here is a Amazon link for you. There looks to be a newer version available too, its in the link.

You'll need one of these. You can find them nearly everywhere Keurig products are sold.
