I've had a Kobo Forma for a few months now. I have no issues with the power button, and the lighting issue (From this post) is barely noticable for me.
To be fair, this might be because I rarely use my Forma at more than 25% brightness (15% during the day to account for brightness variance on my subway ride, 25% with reduced blue light at night.)

I absolutely love my Forma, and find the size and featureset to be perfect for me. As a commuter who often has to grab onto a handrail while on the subway, the page turn buttons found on the Forma have been invaluable, and the size of the screen greatly increases readability with a minimal effect on portability.

For peace of mind, I bought a sleep cover and anti-glare screen protector.
Unfortunately, the sleep cover effectively doubles the amount of weight you have to hold, which makes holding it with one hand a bit more an adjustment.

All in all, while I was very worried about whether the Forma would be worth the price, but having bought it and used it for the past two months, none of those worries remain, and I am totally pleased with it.

Android with a USB-OTG cable (Anker has good ones - this one is for USB C on the phone and connects directly to the Kobo microUSB cable) - but you can get other combos - connect phone to Kobo, transfer files between the two. Fast and easy.

I'm 100% sure this works because I do it sometimes with a Kobo [Clara] and a Samsung Note 8 - had some epubs on the phone that I wanted on the Kobo and vice versa. $8 solution.

Anything using cloud storage (Dropbox, etc) or FTP might work well too but maybe not on stock firmwares and it's not a big drawback to carry a tiny USB-OTG cable along on vacation, plus it's handy for other uses (external DAC/Amps, etc).

I don't own an e-reader but recently I have been researching as I intend to buy one soon.

I've seen people recommend PopSockets as a good way to hold such devices.

Here is a link to one over at the USA Amazon website:

Well I use this. I bought this reader in part because it is super thin so why add a bulky case that I have to hold all the time? Go naked!

I use the following, is this what you mean? It might not be flat enough to fit in a case though.

As far as I know, 1TB Sd Cards are experimental yet (SanDisk sells a 400gb MicroSD card at max). So I deduce that it's a fake SD card, it only SHOWS 1TB, but in reality it might not even save 1 megabyte without corrupting everything in it, or it might hold more real capacity, there is programs to test it in a computer, but I wouldn't trust a fake SD Card anyways, it might corrupt your data.

If you want a real massive sd card here is the 400gb I talk about, But I'm not sure if the Sd Card reader in your kobo would be able to handle it safely.

I have a glass screen protector on mine, and keep it in this sleeve:
