This is what I'll tell you:

  1. There's a really, really good morel book put out by a MSU professor a few years ago. https://smile.amazon.com/Morels-Michael-Kuo/dp/0472030361?sa-no-redirect=1 It talks about the event in boyne, michigan hunting and tips.
  2. In that book, he lays out a lot of misinformation about morel hunting. But the thing I've connected with the most, is that morels are pretty much everywhere. Some people only look on the northwest-side of hills, and guess what, they only ever find morels on the northwest-side of hills (self-selection bias). Since caring a bit less about WHERE to look, and instead focusing on HOW OFTEN to look, my luck has increased a bit. The biggest first step is to go to some land and look around.
  3. With the above in mind, WHEN to look is pretty important. They do grow everywhere, but it seems like the rain and temperature can vary from place to place - and so can morel growth. So, consistently visiting the same spots day after day in early may seems to be a great way to get your first find.

After using the techniques above, I don't rake in 100 morels a season like the people that post impressive photos on facebook. But, when the timing is right, I've found them in the yard by the edge of some trees, in the nearby woods, and by a few neighborhood pine trees. It is really about being somewhere at the right time. Once you know what you are looking for, and when to look, it's just a matter of staring at the ground for a few hours until you find some!

I haven't found any this year. I've seen a few finds floating around, but I think this weekend or next weekend will be one of the first that will effect the kzoo area, and the following weeks will also be strong. I've almost always found luck when the plant growth / forest weeds are about 4-8 inches tall. Before the first forest greens are around 4 inches tall, I've never really found any. I generally look for that as my rule of thumb, but as said above, that's probably why I usually find them there.

    Hope this helps!

I'd recommend wearing winter boots and taking your shoes with you if you must wear a more formal dress shoe. If you can wear business casual, just get a good pair of boots, something like a burgundy Chippewa 1939 if it's more casual or Frye James lug if it's a little more business-oriented casual. If you need something more business focused for a suit, Allen Edmonds has some great options that pair well with suits; I'd hit their Shoe Bank discount site for seconds, older styles, etc. at a deal. A quality boot will keep your feet a little warmer and dry if you treat the boot to keep water off of it and clean the salt & moisturize regularly, but you'll still want to pair it with a decent sock like Smart Wool or Darn Tough. Take care of them & they'll last a long time, despite our crappy winters and salt. Whatever you do, don't do the rubber shoe cover things.

Source: I hate cold & wet feet, love shoes, and especially love boots. It could be said that I boot.

I respect your view. For the record I don’t see a bachelors as fantastic, it’s just a base line education in today world, that you don’t have. It’s not going to get you the job but it does put you in the running. When you do get the experience, you need the degree to change careers, location, or desire promotion. I don’t know why your friends are jobless. Maybe they didn’t listen when the idea of an internship came up, or Maybe they should have went for more of a specialize degree. They are jobless still because of there choices, a lot of people in that situation go to grad school. Witch is never a bad idea!

I recommend the book “what color is my parachute and you can do anything.

Mushroom god paul stamets has made leather out of mushrooms. His hat that he wears is mushroom leather and is over 3 yrs old.

The indoor mushroom growing guide. Great book.

I'm also looking at other non-mushroom eating ideas like using the mycilium as packing/building materiel.

Easy then. Just tip a toe into the water.

This book is boilerplate amongst my homeschool friends. Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons https://www.amazon.com/dp/0671631985/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.nk8AbX72YP3Y

For a few bucks, you can teach your kid to read by the end of summer. This is the hard stuff. Most of kindergarten is fine motor skills and staying on task.

We recently purchased a Troy-Bilt 2100 and it's really nice. It's single stage, but the impeller is designed so that if you tilt it up slightly it will pull itself across the concrete. This also means you get a very close and clean plow on your surface. Personally, I would not purchase a 2 stage unless I lived further out in a rural area. You're not going to want to get a 2-stage out for a few inches, and a single stage gas will handle MOST everything you get except in very rare circumstances. https://smile.amazon.com/Troy-Bilt-Squall-208cc-Single-Stage-Thrower/dp/B00IOXIGN8

Our driveway is extremely steep, and this single stage is just fine for us (plus I wouldn't want to be pushing a 2-stage up that incline). The only issue we have had so far is the concrete mix that the plow left us yesterday, which we had to chop up a bit with a shovel first.

I agree with you on sports programs 100%. An interesting read about that is http://www.amazon.com/Beer-Circus-Crippling-Undergraduate-Education/dp/0805068112

If they're on your porch, they're trespassing. Call the police (or ask "new guy" if he'll call the police if he spots them when you aren't home).

Also, get something like this:

Door/Window Alarms

They're cheap and easy to use. My elderly neighbor has one on her front door. She sometimes forgets to switch it off when deliveries arrive, and I can hear it in my apartment with my windows and door shut. It isn't loud enough to wake me up, but it definitely gets my attention when I'm hanging out watching TV. It's about as loud as a smoke alarm.

Us too. We just replaced our ancient Culligan iron filter with a generic one from Amazon, which was easy to install and MUCH CHEAPER. Followed by a generic water softener. Finally, an undersink filter.

I don't know much about water testing kits, but I picked up one of these reverse osmosis systems almost 2 years ago, and it has been worth every penny.
