Prior experience assembling normal computers is certainly helpful.
Also, here's the hardware I used to achieve 3.9 mh/s.

Air cooling is definitely the way to go. I'm currently cooling 8kw in a small room with one high CFM exhaust fan pulling hot air into the attic, and a couple of supply vent grates cut into the wall opposite the exhaust fan so the cool room air gets pulled through the rigs. The fan only draws 250w, so quite a bit less than an air conditioner or similar cooling (although I do know it will increase my home A/C usage due to drawing cool air out of the house)

I keep waiting for the cops to show up with a search warrant for my grow op thanks to all the electricity usage and having ordered supplies typically used for "hydroponic gardening", though :)

The APW3++ is a bit pricey due to it being brand new and in high demand, but the first batch from July is due to be delivered soon and they're still available on Amazon. Plus, they're specifically designed for the AntMiner L3+, which is what I assume you're attempting to power. Also, they can output 1200w over standard 120v power (up to 1600w over 220v), which is a nice improvement over the older APW3 and APW3+ models.

If you give me your address, I'll send you a free one of these, on the house: The Merriam-Webster Dictionary New Edition (c) 2016 https://www.amazon.com/dp/087779295X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_KKWWzbB1ZJ4J

Focus on your contractions too. Something we learned in the 1st grade over here. Good luck.

Everytime I see this type of discussion, I have to chime in because I did it, but didn't realize you need these too, cgminer doesn't like not seeing a GPU fan speed. (connect it to the 92mm fan). Not sure if sgminer works without GPU fan speed.

I did the red mod before receiving my g10 kraken with a thermaltake water extreme 2.0 240mm Rad, so these are my observations (copied from my other comments)

-If you don't want to use zip ties and don't want to buy the adapter (really hard to tension zip ties well)

http://www.mckeemaker.com/2014/01/diy-asetek-water-cooling-on-r9-290.html

--You REALLY need VRM cooling, one fan on top with no VRM heatsink is not enough, try these

-You should also consider VRAM heatsinks as well like this or like this

-get one of these to connect a fan to the GPU header, cgminer doesn't like if it can't read the fan speed, though you can use -T arguement to get cgminer to work.

My 290 at 100% load now hovers at 50-55C and is really quiet with 2 SP120 Quiet Editions :)

This post reminds me that I should dust out the rad when I get home.

Just purchased 4, thank you. One thing I'm curious about: The model number on this card for Newegg is different than the model number on Amazon. I'm pretty damn sure they are the same cards though. Can anyone explain?

I own this case and it rocks. I think you'll find it a lot easier to work on things with this desktop/tower hybrid. Glad for people who want to learn IT skills just because they are interested in crypto. Upvote!

I used to teach PC building classes for people who were at retiring age and had no tech skills. It was one of the coolest experiences I've had to this day. Message me if you want more advice or wanna talk about your build idea.

It just didn't sound cool to say "Lobster Crab Seafood Pick Fork and Scoop."

Also, you do and can if you have someone crack it open and get all the meat out.

I think to do the original poster justice however we need to resolve this issue of exactly how we are going to eat all the lobster. I am open to change. At the current coin price I am not buying a lot of lobster.

I was planning on skipping the small 120mm fans altogether and just stacking three nicer box fans (something like this) where the door would be. I figured that would be enough to keep them cool. Then just exhaust it out the back through a window. If you push the air fast enough, you don't even need cooled air. Ambient temps should be enough. 38C air is still way cooler than the 75C cards.

That being said, let me know how the inline works out. I picked up a 325CFM one without doing much researching thinking that would be enough. Man did I learn that lesson the hard way lol

I use a VeraLite home automation system and a smart energy switch for each rig. I wouldn't say it's cheap, but it's reasonably priced, and it works extremely well. You can also use it for other things, like controlling your AC or a camera.

There is a web interface and several compatible android/ios apps (the z-wave home automation protocol is widely used). It was trivial to setup.

I have used a Startech pci -> pcie adapter card (http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Express-Adapter-Card-PCI1PEX1/dp/B0037ECAM2) which works well.

That + a 5850 or 5870 for $100 is gonna be your best bet.

Other than that, you're SoL.

Are you looking for an adapter from an ATX power supply to the Gridseed miner itself? If so, my company carries those and sells them on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/4-Pin-Molex-2-1mm-Gridseed-Power/dp/B00K53I1JY

There are a few others like that on Amazon from our company and others. Or do you need a standalone PSU? If so, 12v/5a power supplies can be had on Amazon Prime for cheap.

In stock at amazon w/ prime even. Go with your first choice. I know you said newegg. But unless its due to having some giftcards or something I don't know why you'd choose newegg. Heck, if it were me I'd sell the speculative giftcards and buy through amazon anyway. :)

You can use a Belkin Wifi Outlet to restart the miner remotely at any time. Best investment you can make.

u/Americonfusion · 1 pointr/litecoinmining

I use these for wifi on all my rigs, work great and they are nice and cheap. I used one on my desktop for about 2 years before I started mining and now that same one is in a mining rig with no issues.
