Absolutely. I'm lucky that my landlord doesn't charge me a pet fee, but my old place in Brooklyn charged me $50 a month. It was.... annoying to say the least but I just saw it as part of rent. Cats are WAY less annoying and destructive than children, yet you can't charge a CHILD fee. Anyway..... If you feel your bud is your emotional support animal, you should look into registering him. That way landlords a) can't discriminate against you and b) won't be able to charge you a fee (I believe). My friends from VA just moved to SD and into a fancy complex down there and the building mgmt not only accepted them and their pittie, but also waived the pet fee because they had him certified. :)

As for litter, you have to try the Breeze litter box! That stuff is the shit. I had to switch over to non-clay based litter a few years ago because my buddy had peripheral urethra surgery (leave it up to me to adopt the cat that needs a $3k life saving surgery... bless the ASPCA for helping out). It's a 2-tier system with pellets on top and an ultra-absorbent pad on the bottom. It doesn't clump, doesn't smell, doesn't make a mess! It does hurt like a bitch to step on a bead though. Sort of like a lego. Haha. It's seriously great. The pads can get pricy BUT Amazon sells a replica version for $15 for 20 / $25 for 40. The Beads luckily are only $8 and I fully switch them out about every 3 to 4 weeks unless he had crazy diarrhea or something. It's soooo easy to clean the whole thing and because my bathroom is part of my bedroom (I have roommates) it was super important to me to find something that won't stink up the bedroom.

Tracked it down...it's a fluid extractor:

I got it when I got a car that takes synthetic oil, and I love anything DIY, especially if it's saving you a ton! It will pretty much pay for itself after a use or two.

You have to put some elbow grease into pumping it, but once the oil gets going it's very easy and doesn't take too long at all! When it fills up, I'll just put the old oil in an empty oil bottle and take it to Pep Boys, which does free oil recycling. :)

Yeah, I actually just realized this same thing recently. I went on Amazon to check for some reusable produce bags, and sure enough hey had some great ones. Bought them and love them.

Did the thief actually break the window glass? There's stuff you can get called security film to protect glass windows.

One thing I do is use a bar of some sort that makes it so my windows can't open, like this.

My heart really goes out to you, and I know how violated something like this can make you feel. I highly recommend speaking with a counselor or therapist. Also see if any friends would be willing to stay with you at your apartment to help you feel safe and get some sleep.

Not sure how much this means but I've always installed these things.

If someone open your door, window they will ring. They are pretty loud maybe not enough for your neighbors but could also kinda of give you a bit more peace in your mind. Sorry it happened to you.

When we moved to Long Beach FROM Florida a few years ago, I had the exact dilemma with my cat. We opted for driving, as I just felt that the airport and plane experience would be too much for me and for my little one. The drive went absolutely fine, in fact I was more stressed about the cat during the trip then she was! A lot does depend on your cat's personality and her tolerance for the car ride. Plus I strongly suggest going to the vet and getting her checked out before you leave, ask them for sedating meds and for travel advice. My vet in Florida was really helpful. We bought a large soft-sided carrier for the back seat, it was so big we could fit her cat bed inside and I also added a few of my clothes that I hadn't washed so it smelled familiar. We only needed the sedation meds for the first day of the 3.5 day drive. As soon as the car got moving, she would look around for a little bit but then she would go right to sleep. No crying or whining at all. She slept most of the days away while we were driving, even without the medication. She didn't touch the "litter box" we had set up for her in the car, or eat much, until we got into a hotel room and I put the litter box down in the hotel bathroom. Getting her in and out of the car to the hotel room at the end of each driving day was a little stressful for me, as the soft sided carrier isn't for carrying your cat around in. We had our smaller hard carrier plus a leash and a collar for security during each transfer, and I either held onto her tight and walked her in my arms (with leash and collar on) to the hotel, or we moved her from the car into a smaller carrier designed for carrying around and then brought her to the hotel in there. She was a little freaked out by the first hotel room and hid behind a curtain most of the night, but hotel rooms two and three saw her lounging on the bed and acting quite normal after the first 10 minutes of adjustment. That's my experience, and every cat and every drive is different. Good luck with the move! If you're interested, the large carrier was a huge help; it came with a collapsible water bowl and litter box, both of which we used. Here is the link to the exact one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LYHJBUT/ (If you look at the customer photos, the first few are photos of my little one during our trip outhere.)

Microwave cooking for one.

I had to go a few days without gas in April when I moved in to my new apartment as well. Basically, cold super quick showers. If you have one of those electric kettles you could heat up some water and pour it in a bucket/bin and bathe yourself with it. (By pouring/splashing, unless you're small enough to fit in the bucket.) Or you could try baby wipes.

For birds, you could get a bird book like Birds of California. My wife uses this for birds in our yard. We also have a pair of pocket binoculars for identifying them without scaring them off.

Flora is a little tougher, since plants aren't quite as scoped as the birds in the area. As mentioned apps on mobile devices are quite good. Short of a zoology book and having a flower from the plant and counting stamens and pistils it's tough to have a simple guide for identification (at least that I know of).

I've tried all sorts of traps and sprays. I am in love with this spray. It attracts the flies you have nearby. It doesn't attract flies from outside the area. The flies die after walking around in it. I put it on window sills and wherever flies naturally land. Garbage Bin, window sills, etc. It's very effective.

I used to go to Belmont and the new CSULB rec center, but have since decided that I am my own gym (I work on the app version, PM me if you want a free copy). I now workout in my apartment or at bluff park. There are tons of people doing exercises at Bluff Park and Bixby Park. Bixby Park has an outdoor bodyweight gym with pull up bars, parallel dip bars, and sit up stations.

I wouldn't go to best buy, I'd recommend buying it online. If you can't buy it online go to bestbuy and get them to price match an item.

I'd recommend this one.

Edit: If you want a newer option I'd recommend this one. ~$30 more

If you need to take matters into your own hands, I recommend getting some of this reflective asphalt striping tape and do up your street with those "T" markings you usually see in meter zones that guide you where to park. If you want to make it even more official, you can follow this official CalTrans MUTCD guide (pg. 737) that shows you everything you need to know about how big and where to make them.

u/Harry_Tuttle · 2 pointsr/longbeach

You're good. Of course, you could always park considerately but get one of these.

I have a world-traveling friend, Amaz Onprimé, who says he has ghost stories about his time in Long Beach.
