Alrighty, lets give this a go.

> What colours look good with what?

It depends. You can't go wrong with a black or navy watch face, with a steel case. Stay away from anything gold since it can look super tacky if not done exactly right. If you want a more casual/military look you can get a watch with a PVD (black) case, but these don't age very well in my experience.

If you want something that is sporty, orange watches can look amazing, such as the cult-favourite Seiko Orange Monster.

>Should my watch match my pants?

Doesn't matter, sorta. For 99% of what you will be wearing, as long as you match the watch (in particular the strap, more on that later) to the occasion everything will be just fine. You don't wear an Orange Monster to a funeral, nor do you wear a dress watch to the beach.

Changing the strap on a watch can totally change the looks. You can take a sporty Fleiger style watch on a bright NATO strap and put it on an ostrich leather strap. It can now be worn at pretty much any formal event including weddings and funerals.

> Hair?

That's a new one. I honestly have no idea how one would match a watch to their hair, but seeing as I am currently wearing my watch on a bright orange NATO and have a mohawk (long story) I guess it is sorta possible.

Serious answer: Don't worry.

>When should I go for simplicity and when should I go for elegance?

It is personal preference. I like watches that are as mechanically complex as possible, since it appeals to the engineer side of me. I also like my watches to be extremely readable, since I use them for flying at night, where I NEED to be able to read them in the dark with a quick glance.

Others like their pieces to be as minimal as possible. It is up to whatever you like. On the other hand, you need to make sure your watch fits the occasion. No massive dive watches while meeting The Queen.

Now that we have your questions out of they way, here are my suggestions for some quality watches on a reasonable price point.

If you are looking for a good-for-everything watch, you have a few options. If you are looking for an automaitc watch (no battery, purely mechanical) you really can't beat the SKX007. It has excellent durability, classic looks, and the lume (glow stuff on the dial) is excellent. There is no battery to die, although you may need to get it services in a decade (or get a new one). Leave it on the bracelet for a sporty everyday look that can go with a suit, to a wedding, or a funeral. Throw it on a NATO strap (how I wear my watch every day) for comfortable everyday wearing. Get different coloured straps for different things, and change it up. A new strap can make it look like a totally different watch.

If you want something that will do almost any occasion without a mechanical movement, basically any Citizen Eco-drive will do the job. I myself like the Citizen Nighthawk, although it might be because I'm a pilot. The slide rule on the outside is great for addition/division (how much to tip, how much tax, etc.) and it will tell a second time zone.

If you are looking to make a statement, there is nothing that tops the Seiko "Orange Monster". This thing is built like a tank, the utomatic movement is proven, and the lume is out of this world. It also comes as the "Black Monster" if you want to be a bit more subtle.

If you are looking for a dress watch, I would recommend the Orient "Union" as it has a durable, in-house movement and great looks.

If you are looking for something badass that will be great for nighttime, there is the Traser Code Blue. It is a very durable quartz watch designed for military operations. It has vials of tritium (hydrogen with two neutrons) and will glow without any exposure to light for at least a decade.

If you are looking for a digital watch, I would recommend either the Casio Mudman if you are looking for a large, indestructable watch (That is also allowed for space travel by NASA) or the Casio F91W which is much slimmer, but less durable.

Possibly one of the best deals in "stylish" watches is the Timex Weekender. The come in a million different colours, have an electric illumination, and are very stylish and durable.

STAY AWAY FROM FASHION WATCHES!!! These include brands like Fossil, Nixon, etc. They are basically the same movement out of a $5 Wal-Mart special in a shiny case. Stick to reputable brands such as Casio, Seiko, Citizen, Timex, etc. If you are unsure about a brand, find a thread on the Watchuseek forums about that brand and that thread will probably tell you all you need to know. Also, stay away from Invicta. That company has shitty quality control and makes sub-standard products.

My advice would be to get the SKX007 on the bracelet, and then grab a few NATO straps. I have had great customer service interactions with Clockwork Synergy. Their straps are of decent quality, and their service is second-to-none. If you have a little cash left over, grab the F91W for chores are hiking, or anywhere you may need a stopwatch and illuminated face (i.e. Flying).

The only link you provided that I approve of are the Sperry Top-Siders. I found the Ice to be very versatile and the solid black have recieved compliments as they aren't very common. Both versatile. Good with shorts and could even be formal enough for a summer wedding. Oatmeal, Sahara/Brown Buc Brown for a basic, well, brown.

For a watch I'll make a few personal suggestions. Of course, the Timex Easy Reader, Brown & Black. Bonus: Black face. This Seiko for a silver watch and I like this black Citizen Eco Drive as well.

Get some basic chino's in a good slim fit like the Dockers Alpha Khaki and some basic flat front shorts from Patagonia.

American Apparel for some staples. Cut down on your graphic tee's and get some plain stuff! I really like the Tri-Blend 50/25/25 Track Shirt for tee's, so comfortable. The black is actually a really dark grey, because of the nature of 'the blend', I really like it and it matches these dark grey twill plimsolls I have perfectly. They have great thin sweaters and cardigans too, browse what's available on Amazon, go on their website to see better images and what else they offer.

I don't mean to totally disregard your choices, I'm just showing you some items that I like, some good basics, and that's all I can muster before I head to bed.

Also, are you sure you're really a 32 inch waist at 6ft 150lbs?

I'm pretty new to boots as well, but I'd suggest picking up a few things if you don't have them already. This will apply to most leather shoes/boots (doesn't really apply to suede or roughout leathers... for that you'll need a suede brush)

FYI below is basically a tl;dr of this post that got me started on all of this. I recommend you read through it all and check out /r/goodyearwelt and maybe just use this post as more as a quick reference or for ideas.

  1. Brush off your boots as much as you can with the horsehair brush

  2. Wipe down your boots with a wet rag

  3. I'm guessing you won't get everything off, so wait for them to air dry and then use the leather cleaner on them (you probably won't have to use leather cleaner every time... and you might not want to as it dries out the boot)

  4. Wait for your boots to air dry

  5. Condition the leather on your boots.

  6. Wait for your boots to air dry

  7. Repeat whenever your boots need it. On average that will probably be every 3-6 months, but the best way to tell is by feel.

    Daily Care

  • Use a shoe horn to put your shoes on

  • When you take off your shoes give them a quick brush. Ideally you'll take off the shoelaces first but it won't kill them if you don't do this every time. I'd recommend at least brushing them off once every few wears, and brush+wipedown with water/rag every 5-10 wears.

  • Always put cedar shoe trees in your leather boots/shoes when you take them off and leave them in until your next wear... this is what happens if you don't. The shoe trees will help keep your boots from developing unwanted toe spring, will help control moisture inside the boot, and will keep them smelling fresh.

  • Let your boots rest/dry for 24hrs in-between wears with shoe trees in. If you wear them every day you will significantly reduce their lifespan.

Get your hair cut on a regular basis. You look like you'd do better with pretty short hair from your photos. Consider styling it.

Photo #1/2: Don't wear t-shirts with designs on them by themselves. Get a nice light jacket to layer over top. Also make sure the color goes with your shirt, and try to work that color scheme throughout your outfit subtly. Your jeans are too loose, I think. Try out a pair of Levis 501 (the original jeans) in the inkiest blue you can get, since they're cheap and look good. You're tall and somewhat skinny they will give you a nice classic "American" look. Remember to wash them inside out to preserve the deep color.

Photo #3: I don't think that shirt isn't really meant to be worn untucked (see the spare buttons sticking out on the bottom). Either tuck it in or get a shirt that is cut more flat on the bottom (can't remember what they're called). The shirt also looks a little baggy to me, maybe I'm wrong. Go to a men's clothing store and have them take your measurements, and remember them. Now buy a fitted shirt in those exact measurements. Try to get a couple white shirts, 1 or 2 blue shirts, maybe a black one, and the basic patterns (gingham, pencil-striped, etc.) Play it safe at first, then get a little more adventurous once you're stocked with the basics. Also don't wear a red shirt under these. In fact you might want to get some white v-necks so you can undo the top 2 buttons and show off your chest a little, while keeping sweat under control.

Photo #4/#5: leave only the first 2 undone :) 2 looks dashing, 3 looks sloppy (IMO)

Photo #6: Yeah those sweaters suck. The colors are not doing anything for you. Try finding a nice gray sweater that fits you well to start out with.

Photo #7: The polo fits too loosely. The collar should not be so "wobbly". And again, no need for a visible, or at least color-clashing, undershirt.

Hope the feedback helps. Disclaimer: I am by no means a fashion guru.

Get these two books. I like them very much:

I'm 6 foot and 165ish pounds, but I'm also 22. Here are some quick staples of my wardrobe that I'd recommend that are safe enough that you won't be made fun of and that you can still find cheaply.

LEC button ups - I sized small but you may be able to get away with mediums since you're a bit bigger than I am. These are cheap as hell on sale so they're great to get a lot of, in case you're worried about wearing the same shirt too often.

Levi's 508 - I have an above average thigh/ass to waist proportion, so these achieve a skinnier look while not strangling my dick. My pair is rigid envy and I use a cuff. Stock photos are bad btw.

Dockers Alpha Khakis - Same deal as the jeans. These might be a little more tight in the thigh/dick region, but I still like mine a lot.

Sperries / Keds - Boat shoes are great for casual wear, although obviously a ton of people are going to be wearing them. A cheap pair of keds (plimsolls) are also good, and fewer people tend to wear them.

[American Optical Aviators] (http://www.pilotshop.nl/contents/media/helmet.jpg) - These bad boys used to be standard issue for pilots and I'm pretty sure that they were worn by astronauts during the apollo missions, so you know they're a good value at only $40.

Belt - I got a custom belt made at Narangasset Leathers that's pretty decent for $45, if I remember correctly. Any belt will do, but don't lay down money on a cheap one if you can get some decent leather. You'll end up throwing it out after a year or two of frequent use, and that's just a waste of money.

Harrington jacket - I really like this style of jacket and I have a wool version of the one pictured here, although mine is a much slimmer fit (I just couldn't find a good photo in under a minute). It's very simple and functional. If you can snag a cheap baracuta on ebay (usually around 100-150), you'll be getting a nice made-in-england jacket that comes with two zippers, meaning you can slightly unzip the bottom one while sitting, which gets rid of that weird poof that you get from being in that position.

I find that all of these go well together and I'm sure MFA agrees too. Keep in mind that these won't guarantee your drowning in pussy, but if you make sure to get clothes like these that are properly fitted, you might just find yourself waist deep.

u/Big_Hoss_Butt_Floss · 80 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I mixed up your response above and for some reason I though you preferred the "busy" watch. Sorry, here's a better reply for simpler styled watches:

Tissot again makes some simpler watches. The Le Locle (linked) is one of their trademark pieces that is a bit above your price range but is certainly timeless. It is more expensive because it is automatic and not battery powered, but they make similar quartz movement watches.

Seiko's simpler watches are nothing special, but their dive watches are very popular among watch collectors, especially the "Sumo" and "Marine Master" models which are more expensive than your budget allows. These are definitely "casual" watches which could be worn every day, whereas the Tissot might trend on too formal.

The Bulova Precisionist series is probably too busy if you preferred the simple model I originally linked; I've been waiting forever for them to make a conservative, simple Precisionist to add to my collection to no avail. The original one I linked is probably the simplest one they make.

Another option, stepping outside the three brands I originally picked, would be to go with a Hamilton. This is a historic American brand, now owned by the same company as Tissot. Their quartz movement watches start at just under $300. Many of these are military styled but they make some slightly dressier, very simple ones as well.

I'll leave you with one last option which is often overlooked, and that is a Chinese brand called Orient. They are very affordable, much under your budget, and while they are not built as well as fine Swiss watches they are certainly good watches from a dedicated watch maker. They tend to be popular as an affordable mechanical watch brand, and I have no personal experience with their quartz watches, but they have a fairly dedicated fan base so they are probably worth checking out.

As a watch nerd I would rank the Hamilton watches as head and shoulders above the others, but in your price range your options are more limited stylistically.

u/JBu92 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

if these are your "moccasin style dress shoes", then what you're looking for are chukkas (or the "desert boot").
I've got a pair of those clarks, and really like them, though the soles are a super weird soft rubber material that will wear at the edges and darken quickly, but they find a balance pretty quick, so you don't need to worry about eating through the sole super fast.
I also just picked up another pair from CK, which have a much nicer sole, but are super narrow for my usual tastes.

u/CunningRunt · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

No prob, happy to help. The Thorogoods are all-around great performers and I'm sure they'd be great in the rain as long as you treat the leather with some kind of conditioner (like Obenauf's or Huberd's). However, I have dedicated rain boots that are also completely awesome.

u/hurricanefalcon · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

You won't find a good skeleton watch in that price range. If you do find one it may look nice, but more than likely it'll be very cheaply made and won't be built to last. For around 150 you have a ton of options. I'd recommend the

Seikon SKX007

or various Seiko 5's 1 2

Orient Mako, it comes in a variety of colors

Deep Blue makes a nice dive watch, this is the quartz version, the mechanical version is a little more expensive.

You can also look into homage watches like Alpha but these are lesser quality than the ones listed above. I'd stay away from brands like Invicta, Stuhrling, and even something like Skagen. If you're going to shell out $150 might as well get your money's worth.

u/ImADude13 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Alright - with all of those things considered...here is my advice. This Seiko 5 is well within your price range and can work in both casual and professional settings. I have one myself, and it's much better looking in person than in the stock photos. Additionally, at only 38mm wide and 11mm thick, it is quite small and won't look big on your wrist (I don't know your measurement, but you should be good). Now, you said you like leather - I suggest putting this hadley-roma strap on it. You may need a spring bar set to help you out, but it's really easy. These three purchases will still put you in at around $50 under budget and a sweet looking wrist piece. Also, if you're looking for what the final product will look like, here is mine with the exact same set up

u/berwyn_urine · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I just answered a nearly identical question in the SQ thread. To quote:

> I've seen this asked before and people typically say to look at military surplus.

> Here are some other options:

> - Craghoppers ($200) ~ recommended to me from another user here. I have no experience, but he liked his a lot and it looked good in fits.

> - Alpha Industries ($160-$200) ~ once again no experience, but people throw this brand around all the time here.

> - Helly Hansen ($208 after applying 20% off promotion) ~ supposedly underrated brand. Looks like a really nice parka for the price.

All of that said, I have to agree with what /u/thesaltyoubreathe said. It might be worthwhile to stretch your price range to $300 or $400 to get a decent quality parka. Otherwise you might have some luck looking through resale ads on grailed or ebay.

u/carteazy · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I do have other shoes as options, but sneakers usually look too puffy on my for me to be comfortable with them. Because of that, I'm trying to move away from normal sneakers.

I don't know why I tucked in my shirt in hindsight, lol I will stay away from tucked from now on. I did like the chinos, but you're right, the fit is definitely off. I'll check out Uniqlo and try my luck there tomorrow.

As far as accessories go, I ordered this watch yesterday.

u/Brokim · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

http://www.evanseasyspace.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Mast-Harbour-Men-Lavender-Marigold-Slim-Fit-Smart-Casual-Shirt_27a675a1a7e7136b1518097673ef32ec_images_1080_1440_mini.jpg

This seems to be the best that comes from the ill defined term "smart casual". My recommendation is a pair of chinos, leather shoes, and an OCBD. And if you feel underdressed maybe a light jacket. I'm guessing you're new to MFA based on your post so I'll post some links to get you on the right track:

u/Ledatru · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

College is casual. You'll be wearing a t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers 95% of the time.

Get some dark, non-distressed, well-fitting jeans. Not baggy, but not ridiculous tight. No rips, tears, or holes - this way you can wear them when you're kickin' it during the day, or when you're hitting the clubs at night.

Next, get some socks and sneakers/casual shoes. There are literally hundreds of options, it's really up to YOUR personal taste. Just off the top of my head: Converse All-Stars, Converse Jack Purcells, Adidas Sambas, Clarks Desert Boots, etc.

Wear what you like for t-shirts. I always like to have some well-fitting solid color v-necks to keep it classy and simple. Try Target, mall department stores, etc.

Get a nice simple watch. I like Casio Men's MQ24-7E Classic Analog Watch because it's so versatile.

u/ChrisVolkoff · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Thorogood American Heritage: plain toe or moc toe? Pros and cons, versatility, etc.? I'm looking for a casual boot. I feel like the plain toe has a "work boot" feel to it and I like the "character" that the moc toe brings, but I'd like to have other people's opinion. Here's some pics I found:

You can go with a derby shoe like this one from [Bass] (http://www.amazon.com/Bass-Buckingham-Mens-Oxford/dp/B005PMNDWA) or a casual sneaker. I'm wearing Converse IIs and on top of looking as great and classic as ever, they're super comfortable. But Stan Smiths, Puma suede classics, Vans, etc. are all good choices.

u/whatisthis147 · 0 pointsr/malefashionadvice

No, that's not what you're looking for. The only reason you'd get a Timex is because you want to save money, right? If you're willing to put in extra money for a watch band, you should just get a better watch altogether. There is no point in upgrading a Timex; it's like getting getting a new paint job for your busted pickup instead of getting a nice sedan. These are some great alternatives. 1 2 3 This site is pretty good for cheap straps.

u/Dr_Irrelephant · 4 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Yep. 20mm spring bar. They're pretty much all created equal. You might as well get something like this and never have to worry about it again, but there are a bunch of options on amazon and elsewhere. Anywhere that sells watches will probably have them if you don't want to wait for shipping.

You also might want a spring-bar tool to put it in. You can do it without a specialized tool but it makes it much easier. I have this one and it works great.

u/FalconHigh · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Don't forgot that the lense of your sunglasses is black which would match the strap. I personally don't like mixing a blackface watch with a brown strap, but I would still look around Cheapest Nato Straps.com. The beauty of NATO straps are they are pretty cheap and interchangeable so you could mix around with them.

As for the comment below about removing the original strap; you don't need to slice. Just get one of these strap removal tool, and you could take it off your self. At most it will take 10 mins. Easy DIY job.

u/Themata075 · 6 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Sounds like you're doing it right. This is a shining example used in Details Men's Style Manual. Here's the page regarding colorful socks:

"Wearing brightly colored socks is a look championed by Italians and British men who like to indulge their peacock tendencies a little more than American men do. Don't let that put you off: Stripes, dots, argyles, and checks - or just plain color - can make a bold statement. Done badly, however it can make you look like a chump.

Bear the following in mind: Socks are a transition from the pants to the shoe. Try to keep one color constant or blend the two colors brought together. When in doubt, lean toward the color of the pants.

Think about the shirt and tie you are wearing. If you pick up colors from the shirt and tie, your cocks will blend seamlessly into the same outfit.

Beginner:
Transition from blue, gray, and black by wearing socks in subtle patterns or lighter blues and browns. They'll match the clothes you already have.

Intermediate:
While you might not want to go the whole hog, try red socks with jeans and brown shoes.

Advanced:
Stripes, patterned, and checked socks are for style connoisseurs only. Apply similar rules as the ones for shirts and ties - match colors and balance scale."

For anyone on MFA who doesn't have the Details Men's Style Manual, I highly, highly recommend it. It really helped me develop my basic fashion sense and is a fantastic reference for fit, style, and coordinating outfits. Get it.

Not sure what Irish weather is like, but I recently purchased an Alpha Industries N-3B parka and it looks/feels awesome. I can wear it with just a t-shirt under in 30F and be fine, so layering would make it great for all (cold) weathers. I got these Thorogood boots last year and I've really enjoyed them. I also made a post and put up an album when I first went through and put mink oil on them.

If you'd like, I can throw up a picture of them after a year of pretty heavy wear. I've really enjoyed having them and they're great "beginner" boots.

u/ErikBah · 9 pointsr/malefashionadvice

First time posting,

Both outfits I wore to school this week. In both I'm actually wearing this watch (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00065FWR0/ref=pd_sbs_241_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=AYK4RF63F9PMT9EH37QP) that /u/homahuey posted about in some thread I saw while lurking. I liked it way too much NOT to get, and I picked up like 5 so I could use em the same way he did, lmao.

I think its also worth noting that before I choose what to wear before I go out, I'm listening to music and whatever particular song I'm listening to usually plays a role in what I end up wearing.

The first outfit was inspired by Telephone Calls off of Cozy Tapes Vol. 1, and the second outfit "Down On My Luck" by Vic Mensa.

  • Vintage Chicago White Sox snapback,

  • My uncles Tommy Hilfiger windbreaker (?), he doesn't remember when/where he picked it up unfortunately.

  • I'm also wearing a Diamond Co. Grey hoodie underneath the jacket, but any other grey hoodie would've served the same purpose,

  • Jeans from Topman,

  • Nike Roshes.

  • My dads aviators that I scooped up before heading off to class,

  • GQ collab with GAP camo bomber (i'm wearing a large here because it was the only one available, but I would have much rather preferred a medium).

  • h&m burgundy sweater w/ navy elbow patches (the colour comes up much better in the aerial close up shot),

  • pair of thrifted jeans; I don't actually remember where I got these or what the brand is, but i will edit and update when I'm home.

  • Doc Marten boots. I forgot which ones these are as well, will update in that edit.

I only can add a fantastic book about Style, great manual/guide for begginers, comprehensive yet simple, Illustrated and straight-to-the-point.

Details Men's Style Manual: The Ultimate Guide for Making Your Clothes Work for You

Great book to overcome that overwhelm feeling; however I must insist, you have gems right at the sidebar, for free.

u/waterhoused · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Someone more knowledgeable than me should answer this too, but:

2) This spring bar tool is the one I used, and seems to be perfect for the job. ~$5, prime eligible.

3) From what I've learned today, I guess 17mm could work as it's just being held by that bar, but the 18mm leather straps I have on it now are perfectly flush. It's definitely an "18mm watch". But I guess technically anything narrower will also "fit" on it.

u/yo_soy_soja · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Just bought and started reading Ametora: How Japan Saved American Style. Previously, I read (and enjoyed) Dressing the Man: Mastering the Art of Permanent Fashion.

I'm an American businessman in my late 20's. I want to be creative and forward-thinking but also professional with my fashion choices. I like to have fun with my clothes while still being respectable.

Any book recommendations?

u/vicille · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I'd like to second the easy reader, as a super skinny dude myself. I just bought this one, with a brown strap and it sounds a lot like what you're looking for, OP. Also it's super cheap.

u/KE-MN · 9 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I'd start by saying spring bar tools are cheap, and putting a different band or bracelet on a watch can really change its look. If you find a watch that you want to wear with different outfits, just pick up an additional band or bracelet.

All my watches are stainless steel or titanium, but I don't have a problem wearing them with a blazer with brass buttons, as an example. If I'm wearing a leather strap on my watch, I do avoid mixing black and brown. Black is black, and the point is it's nice and uniform. For brown leathers, I'm not concerned about the shade and some varience there can keep things from getting overly matchy. Can also vary things up with different types of leather, and as watch straps don't require much leather to make, that's a comparatively inexpensive place to add cordovan, stingray, alligator, crocodile, ostrich, tejus lizard, etc. if you want to have some fun with it. As an interesting example, here's what a $75 watch on a $300 strap looks like.

That black-dialed watch on a brown leather strap look sort-of intentionally clashes so you can wear it with whatever.

u/blackice7 · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

That's actually a good budget to get a decent entry-level watch.

If you're into a sporty, yet classy look, I would check out dive watches. They're versatile, indestructible, and will look good with most outfits.

I was in the same situation as you, and was deciding between the Orient Mako http://amzn.to/rivjad or the classic Seiko SKX007 http://amzn.to/qbWT5Z. I ended up with the SKX007 because it was unique, and a long time favorite within the watch community.

You can get either one of those <$150 on eBay from trusted sellers. Can't get much more bang for your buck.

u/klew3 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

There are lots of watches linked to there but they all seem pretty good. And I'll throw in that I got this Orient black Mako on watchyouseek for about $70 used and in perfect condition though it took about a month for the right watch to pop up.

u/imsellingmyfoot · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I can attest to the Thorogoods. I've got these and they're great. Nice quality leather, made in USA, easy break in, and they clean up well. I've got a coat of Obenaulf's on them and they darken a little.

u/cosmic_dentist · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

This Alpha Industries hooded fishtail which only appears to be available in Europe but can be obtained thru third party sellers at Amazon or Ebay. Its fairly pricy but I like the way it look. If I don't go for that one I will probably get the Alpha N3B Slim Parka which is aesthetically less pleasing to me but probably just as functional. Anyone have experience with the first one?

u/Jedibrad · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Blucher mocs, wingtips, boots (option 2), chukkas (option 2), penny loafers, and bucks (option 2 & option 3) are all some great options.

If you can, try to introduce him to slimmer pants in a darker wash -- perhaps some 511's or 513's in 'rigid dragon' or 'bastion' respectively? Combined with some new shoes, he'll look great. :)

u/SCPhares · 6 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Obligatory Clarks Desert Boots. or Stinson His. Both are great, versatile, and comfy as hell. I'd also say look at some nice boat shoes like this or this. If you really want a great pair, also look at Allen Edmonds Shoe Bank for a great deal on 2nd quality. the prices are higher, but you could find a pair in the low 100's on a good enough sale. I really recommend their penny loafers, as they can be worn casually or dressed up.

u/SixPackAndNothinToDo · 5 pointsr/malefashionadvice

You're criticism isn't wrong. But there's a definite thinking behind it.

It;s about them trying to promote an intentional "otherness" to white people. It's meant to feel exotic. There's an extremely good book about this that gives WAY more context if you are interested: https://www.amazon.com/Ametora-Japan-Saved-American-Style/dp/0465059732

For what it's worth, the models on their site are Japanese, and they also are big on "Staff Snaps" which involves photos of store staff (who are almost all Japanese) wearing the same clothes that are in the look book. Every item of clothing on their site is accompanied by Staff Snaps.

I hope you bother reading this comment. I know it's buried pretty far down the thread.

u/HaikoopedMyPants · 8 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Honestly, I get the most compliments of any watch I own when I wear this simple Timex Weekender, and because it's so cheap, you can afford to buy a couple of other bands to add versatility. They're clean, go with pretty much every outfit, and work fine.

u/Variant_Peck · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

That's perfectly fine - besides, there is no need to put out a lot on a watch before you know what you like. Here are some suggestions, if they aren't your style, let me know what you prefer.

u/alphamini · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Would mink oil also be a good fit for the type of leather used on the Clarks Bushacre 2 in beeswax? If so, would it make them a darker brown? I love the boots, but I do wish they were just a tiny bit darker.

I'm sure you're familiar with them, but here are the exact ones just in case.

u/notspartanono · 14 pointsr/malefashionadvice

The shoes you've got go best with (casual or dress) shirts and chinos. You can also wear then with dark jeans (without distressing), but I think there are better shoes for jeans.

These are some shoes that I like wearing with jeans and chinos. The leather is more casual, and the shape is a little different than the derby you have.

Another option is blucher mocs.

u/redli0nswift · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Busy week ordering a few things:

Levis Trucker I have one already in Bleacher light but this is for fall

Slim cotton-cashmere grey sweater from J.Crew

Donegal Shawl sweater from J.Crew

Gap rich ginger 1969 pants

Dockers Alpha in Dark Pebble

Dockers modern in Grey and New British Khaki

I get the J.Crew stuff in tonight. :)

u/_I_Have_Opinions_ · 12 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Of course you can go cheap, if you embrace it. Get a Casio F91W-1 or a MQ24-7E and wear the shit out of it.

But if you spend $100 you can get a really awesome watch. Orient Mako, SEIKO 5...etc.

u/Ragemeister · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

The Orient Mako is currently at its lowest price EVER on amazon.com

Mine is on the way in the mail, but from the reviews I have read it is an EXCELLENT timepiece at an unbeatable price. It's classy, yet versatile. You could easily take this from the farm, to the beach, to 200m underwater, and right back up to the Met for an opera (Oprah?).

I get that you are looking for more of a street watch but you will regret the purchase of a g-shock as soon as you turn 15.

u/do_i_even_lift · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I personally love the J Crew Summerweight slims that I got at the outlet (they're pretty true to size, and I'm a 32x30 in chinos), as well as Docker's Alpha Slims -- I've got 2 pairs of these. If you want to up the ante a tad, Bonobos might be the way to go, and you kind find some decent ones on sale. Also check Grailed to see if you can cop some unwanted chinos on the cheap side -- I just scored some Apolis Chinos for around $20.

u/jt2888 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

A good place to start is with some conditioner. Every 2 or 3 months or so it is good to condition your boots, lexol works well: http://www.amazon.com/Lexol-907-Leather-Care-Kit/dp/B005H7DRQA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422498360&sr=8-1&keywords=lexol+leather
Visit /r/goodyearwelt for more care info

u/engi_nerd · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Well those are one of the lower end ones outside the 1000 mile line. What you are really going to be missing out on is the Horoween leather found on the entire 1000 mile line. This would be a much better option IMO http://www.amazon.com/Thorogood-Moc-Toe-Boot-Gladiator/dp/B001QJ4I5C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1346377107&sr=8-3&keywords=thorogood+boots
Sizing for almost all boots is .5 - 1.5 sizes down. I usually buy 1 size down from somewhere with a good return policy and hope for the best.

u/timothyoneil · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I have this weekender and love it! I have had it for over a year -- I like the fact that it is less structured so it has the ability to expand or become smaller depending on how much stuff I throw in there.

u/avian_gator · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I'd check out Seiko, Orient and Citizen for good brands that make quality watches in the <$200 range.

My daily wear watch is an Orient Mako, which I scored for less than $100 on Amazon. It's solid, has a very reliable and accurate automatic movement (meaning it's a self-winding mechanical watch, rather than battery powered), and it looks amazing.

I would personally recommend that you look for a watch from a reputable manufacturer, rather than buying an overpriced fashion watch. Someone else already mentioned taking a look at /r/watches, which I heartily second.

u/zoetrophic · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Yeah, I definitely understand where you're coming from. I just got out, haha.

They aren't as deep a copper, but the Golden Fox Moc Toe has been recommended often over on /r/frugalmalefashion. They run pretty big, so make sure to check into sizing advice. Eastland Lumber Up and Thorogoods are other options at a little bit higher of a price.

u/xanroeld · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Was this what you used?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0002X520S?pc_redir=1404739595&robot_redir=1

I really love the way they turned out in your photos and I think I want to get them and apply the same wax. Great review btw.

u/PublicBush · 46 pointsr/malefashionadvice

This is an awesome boot/leather shoe care kit. Good price and has everything you need.

u/fb95dd7063 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Good news! This has standard lugs/strap so you should be able to use a number of straps. You'll need a springbar tool to remove that strap (youtube can show you how to use this)

https://www.amazon.com/GGI-Spring-Bar-Tool-Set/dp/B005ZEWGSA/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1495471528&sr=8-7&keywords=spring+bar+tool

Your watch lugs are 22mm apart, so that's the size of strap you'd need.

Any of these NATO straps would work:

https://www.cheapestnatostraps.com/collections/nato/22-mm

These two-piece zulu straps would be cool too:

https://www.cheapestnatostraps.com/collections/smart-watch-straps/22-mm

no need to get a whole new watch when you can just find a strap you like that will be better for the warmer weather.

u/Nibbly_Beaver · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I'm not really an old hand at this myself. Hardly even touched a pair of jeans until a couple years ago. Not a detriment in and of itself but when you replace them with zip off pants or the same ugly cords... I just laugh when I see pictures of myself. I believe I saw your post and you said it was your starting point? Not bad for a starting point. You're got a leg up on most people.

What really did it for me was things like this subreddit though I hadn't found this at the time. That spurred me to buy this book which then led to me buying my suit in China and some other clothes while I was there and I have been hooked ever since. It's a refreshing change to start dressing well!

u/KiwiLicker · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

The ubiquitous Clarks Bushacre 2 is worth mentioning, because you can grab them for less than $70 shipped in the US. I usually wear holes through the soles of shoes within 6-9 months, and while those holes have started showing up at the 10 month mark, the upper is fine even though I don't really take care of them. It's not uncommon for the Bushacres to be on /r/frugalmalefashion for $65. Journeys and Macys carry them for $79-$120. Let me know if you want pictures.

Florsheim and John Varvatos offer some options with a dressier look around the same price, though I can't offer any first hand experience with them.

Browsing through /r/goodyearwelt may be of benefit to you if you're looking for high-quality, made to last footwear. Goodyear welting means the upper is stitched to the midsole, so when the sole wears out a cobbler can replace it. These shoes tend to be pricier, starting around $200 new for the decent stuff with the diminishing returns coming in around the $800 mark for most people, but in general, you get what you pay for.

Here's a great article on chukka options to look into should you decide to spend a bit more.

Wow, wonderful find. Seriously envious. Honestly, I would not worry about the damage much, its hardly noticeable. If they were my boots, I'd clean them with warm water, let dry, and condition/protect with Obenauf's. In fact, this is what I do with my boots in northern Vermont.

u/AndreasIsHere · 17 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I would not wear dress shoes in high school. Although if you like that style of shoes. Check out Bass Bucks. These are more causal but defiantly will stand out in a good way. Also Mocs or Boat shoes would be a good option.

u/mcatrage · 8 pointsr/malefashionadvice

This is a casual watch Link but very nice looking. /r/watches recommends it for the low end in terms of an automatic.

Well while I know you aren't using the word formal correctly but not many dress watches can really pass for a really casual watch and vice versa. I'm assuming you are talking about while wearing a suit. Unless you are james bond common practice is to not wear a bracelet watch while wearing a suit. If you were wearing a tux you shouldn't be wearing a watch at all.

u/HugeAxeman · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Ooph, good purchase! Hopefully you were able to try some on before ordering. I had to buy about a full size down from my usual shoe size. And in case you missed my other comment/haven't considered what/how to care for them here's this copy/pasta: At the suggestion of multiple reddit users, I use this cleaner/conditioner and this brush, which have worked well enough for me.

u/super-rad · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Your options are pretty limited on Amazon, but there are some good watches. I'd stick with Seiko, Citizen, or Tissot. These are a few that appeal to my tastes. If these aren't quite up your alley, I'm sure you can find some from those brands that do. My picks:

Seiko Automatic Diver

Seiko Black Chronograph

Tissot Chronograph

u/kappuru · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Get this instead. 100 bucks, great quality, nice movement, and you won't cry when you scrape it against a rock. (you are going diving with this thing, right?)

u/seriousxdelirium · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Came here to recommend the Casio, especially this one. Looks good enough for any situation a college student will be in, and is disposable enough to wear everywhere and not worry about losing at a party or something.

u/zomgie · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Timex Easy Reader - $25

Timex Weekender (olive) - $28

Timex Weekender (Black) - $30

and more, and more.

Beats the $40 I bought mine for at Target. Great watches for the price.

u/frostinhisbones · 8 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Timex Weekender's seem to be the go-to for a lot of people here. I've got two, but I think I'd rather have a Seiko 5, it's an auto (doesn't run on a battery). There's something kinda neat about automatic watches and the Seiko has a really good quality/price ratio.

u/shark260 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Yeah, CDB if you don't have them already. If you like mocs a lot, I have these and they break in great. Otherwise without going up to redwing a more winter boot would be this, this or this.

u/kayarocks · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Thanks! I love the watch/strap combo, I'm guessing it's just the basic Timex Weekender?

u/ehsu · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Yeah, you'll be fine. It looks like the suede cleaner just stripped all the natural oils out of the leather. Get this or this.

u/huntmol · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I recommend the Red Wing Beckman. Good semi-lugged sole that works indoors and out, and can definitely handle the elements once you add some Obenauf's. Also, email Revolve once that this is your first order with them and they'll give you 30% off, which gives these a damn good price/quality ratio.

u/All_the_rage · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I would go with either these Thorogood Moc Toes or these Round Toes. They are well within your budget, look great, and will hold up well.

u/cjcs · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I would highly recommend Thorogood boots. They offer both plain and moc toe versions. You can get a boot that is ~90% Red Wing quality for roughly half the price.

I've had my pair for a little over 18 months now and have put them through 2 Scottish winters, hiking, drunken walks home through brambles, and considerable time in the wood shop. They are still in great condition with only some expected wear to the soles and minor scratching/scuffing on the toes, but the more beat up they get the better they look.

u/Money_Train · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Necklace:
Go on amazon and find a stainless steel chain like this one. Then get some jeweler's wire at your local arts and crafts store to loop charms or whatever you want through the gaps in the links. (Stay away from crosses or Stars of David to avoid the walking cliche who's mother dresses him)

Wrist game:

Three pack of these will give you some color options to play with.

Maybe throw a bead bracelet to get a stack going.

Then blast them with the classic Casio watch to seal the deal.

u/ac106 · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

you don't really need a guide on how to wear jeans and polos. Jeans basically go with any color so go to marshalls or Uniqlo and grab 5-10 polos and oxford button downs in any colors you like. You can stay way under $50 a shirt. probably 1/2 that easily.

Then get a pair of Clark's Bushacres in beeswax, and maybe something like a Red Wing derby from Nordstorms Rack for casual shoes since you shouldn't wear the same shoes every day.

u/ShmerpDaPurps · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Just got the Red Wing Iron Ranger 8083 the other day. Would something like this work for leather care? What kind of brush should I get? What else do I need to know?

Thanks!

Yea ive checked them out and decided on something like this. I'm not sure about a watch that's the thing, I'm only 17 and not sure if it will go with the slightly more juvenile look I've got going on

u/enano9314 · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I just bought this TimeX Weekender with an olive band. I normally wear watches with leather straps or rubber, but I have noticed that the holes on this watch seem to really be pulling, even after just a few wears. Using the 3rd hole is much too loose and causes the watch to flop all over my wrist, and using the 4th hole is a much more comfortable fit, but causes the hole to "pull" a fair bit, but it is still loose enough for me to fit my finders under. So I don't understand why this band seems to be doing this, it doesn't feel cheap!

Any ideas?

u/Garrison_Halibut · -8 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I'll be honest: those are awful watches. My advice is to eat the $120 and get another brand--Timex, Orient, Seiko, or Citizen are your best bets. Personally, I'd recommend the Orient Blue Mako

u/JoeStapes · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

If you like it, get it. I've owned this one for about three years now and it's still going strong. It's durable and doesn't feel "cheap".

The MQ-24 is actually fairly well regarded over on /r/watches. Check out some of the comments on it here. The strap is removable if you want to replace it, but personally I don't think a leather strap would fit with its aesthetic.

u/pucolosder · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I got those boots from this image in one of the sidebar guides, where they are in the "cool, mostly dry" weather category.

I don't know exactly what that means, but it doesn't really sound like enough for what I'm hoping my next pair of shoes can endure -- I live in Michigan, and park outside during the winter. I don't need to be able to do shoveling in these or anything, but I do have to sometimes walk through foot-deep snow.

I suppose that this is what you guys are referring to? It looks good to me.

u/theonlysaviorCOD · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

What does everybody think of this watch? I know it does not have a leather strap, is there anything I can do about that? I really like the minimal look and I want to ease into wearing a watch. Any advice for me?

u/bigburpsx3 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Thanks for the feedback on sizing. It feels good enough considering my oddly shaped feet. I'll look into the brands that you mentioned!

When people say to use Lexol, is this what they're referring to?

u/Flamewire · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Roughly these, though I bought them a year and a half ago before I knew about proper care.

I'm currently thinking this leather care kit, a horsehair brush, and mink oil

u/Vitrilic · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Should I get this Hollister Coastal Trail Parka or the Alpha Industries N-3B Slim Fit Parka? Looking for something warm and relatively slim fitting. I like the prices too. Also for the Alpha Industries parka, should I go for black or replica blue?

u/itzepiic · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I finally was able to get some dark jeans that I've been searching for forever in buying Levi's 511 Rigid Dragon. However, I do have some newb questions.

Since the jeans are so dark they're practically black, do I treat them like black jeans when matching it with stuff? Do they go with a lighter brown boot like these? I love these jeans but I don't know exactly what to do with them before they get washed and start to fade.

u/edamametrees · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

The shirt is definitely too long, and may be a size large overall. If the next size down is too small, look into finding a tailor.

The shoes are kind of abnormally chunky. For a similar look, you may like these, but they're not my cup of tea. I'd recommend these work boots, but go with whatever fits your style.

u/travvvvvvv · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Wear them with some thick wool socks and they should be plenty warm. I wouldn't wear them to go hiking in snow or anything, but I think they'd be fine for walking through a slush/snow/icy mix. Treat them with leather conditioner before winter.

It's actually on sale on Amazon right now.

It's supposed to be a good entry-level mechanical watch from a company that manufactures all their parts in-house. It's also a bit of a Submariner look-alike, but for a first watch, it's nice and affordable. Check out the reviews.

u/Zyxt · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I like Thorogood's american heritage line for chunky work boots. Here's two of them:

  • Plain toe

If you want something even closer to what you have in the pic, try searcing with keywords like "lugged sole" or "commando sole". Also, Vibram is the company that makes the soles, not those boots.

I would like to toss the casio MQ24-1E into the ring for the "cheapest" option for watches, simple, elegant and I receive complements on mine more than you might think.

May I humbly suggest some $10 alternatives? (not a huge fan of the font)

Fossil has done me well for the most part, and timex. I have yet to venture into the more expensive watches.

If you want a really cheap watch that works pretty damn well with everything, check this casio out. I bought it recently and have been wearing it a lot. You don't have to worry about scratching, forgetting, or misplacing it since another one is always 2 days and 10 bucks away.

I prefer the original Mako: http://www.amazon.com/Orient-Mens-CEM65002D-Automatic-Watch/dp/B001EWEQ3K/ref=pd_sbs_watch_6 (wearing one right now)

I would also suggest digging around on here:

People there are really helpful and really into watches.

Jeans are very dark. Which brown do you think would work best? I'm leaning towards the Taupe Suede.

Generally, you endeavor to have the watch strap match the colour of your belt and shoes, not the watch itself. I have purchased straps from both Crown and Buckle and Strapped for Time and am more than happy with them. Any jeweler should be able to change straps for you, and you can even buy the tools to do it yourself.

Also, you should be conscious of the physical size of the watch, as you may struggle to fit larger watches under the cuff of a formal shirt. The MVMTs I saw were all 45mm, which is quite large - I'd probably be looking at something in the area of <42mm. Additionally, be conscious of the size of your wrist, as a large watch will dwarf a small wrist.

MVMT are "bauhaus" style watches, which /r/Watches has a primer on here. Skagen and Rodina are bauhaus style watches at a similar pricepoint which are more appropriate to formal wear.

Personally, I'm a big fan of Thorogood boots. They're nice looking boots that won't break the bank.

you should check out this Casio watch, it's $10 on amazon and very minimalist. I have it and I like it a lot.

the orient mako is the watch you want. Looks stunning with nato straps as well.

u/kanji_sasahara · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Black Timex Weekender. I got it over a year ago for a trip, since I didn't want to potentially lose my Swiss Army one, but has since become my day to day. The strap is quite comfortable.

u/dareao · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I'm a college student. I've got expendable income, and I want to look nice, but I haven't worn a watch since early high school. So, I decided to shop around and see if I'd like to wear a watch again.

I was thinking, oh, you know, I'll spend $80 to $100 and see what I can find.

Until I found this one:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00065FWR0/ref=oss_product

For TEN DOLLARS.

I love it. It's small, light, and cheap. It looks elegant as fuck and it's just so perfect. If it gets stolen or I lose it, I won't give a damn and I'll just order another one.

u/vildhjarta · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Nice of you to do this. I could use a more casual band for my new Timex Easyreader.

u/Billy_Brubaker · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Flannel Shirt under a grey sweatshirt with dark wash denim and some brown boots.

A nice, simple and appropriate outfit for the occasion.

u/bayernownz1995 · 5 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Mid Pilot Watch

Or the Orient Mako in Black or Blue. If you choose either of these, I think it would be worth buying a leather watch strap. Here's a decent option (its $40 once you sign in)

Also try asking /r/Watches

Edit: Here's a good thread on /r/watches about watches around your budget.

u/hbaas · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Agreed!

Specifically, I'd suggest the seiko 5 diver, or the orient ray or mako. They are all very solid budget divers.

u/bigfriendben · 0 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Yeah it's definitely tedious. I spent probably 2 or 3 hours going over my shoes repeatedly with the cleaner to get all of the Obenauf's off. It was a drag. I used this lexol cleaner and conditioner:

http://www.amazon.com/Lexol-907-Leather-Care-Kit/dp/B005H7DRQA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1395619579&sr=8-3&keywords=lexol+cleaner

u/cannes92 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Thanks! I'll give /r/goodyearwelt a try. Those Golden Fox's are pretty damn close. The image is actually a screenshot I took from the Dockers Alpha page on Amazon.

u/ordinaryhatwontwork · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Generally, you can swap metal chain for leather strap - if watch allows it, you can do it. For example, Orient Mako's metal chain can be replaced.

If you do not like black dial (I don't), you would maybe like these:
Orient Blue Mako

Orient's as well as Seiko's are great choice, however I think that watch should be the only piece of jewelery worn by man, and therefore I like them little bit more eye-catching. Blue dial on those Mako's is really nice (it isn't matte, it changes color with different angle of light) and is a sure compliment getter.

Black Mako's are dressier, little more versatile, but imho more dull.

Some more pictures and pictures

u/Swedish_Chef_Bork_x3 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Nope, they're totally stock except for the mink oil. They're actually cheaper than CDBs too.

Shoe link

Mink oil link

To apply the mink oil I used a blow dryer to heat it up/essentially liquefy it, then used the blow dryer on the shoes to open the pores in the leather. Apply with a soft cloth, wait 15 minutes or so to soak in, then wipe off the excess. Let them dry overnight then you're good!

u/aselbst · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

You can switch out the straps on your current watches with an $8 watch tool, and put NATOs on them. Can't be sure, depending on your watches, whether you'd want to wear them to the beach, but changing out the strap works on any watch and definitely changes the look.

u/jeansaddiction · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

ah yes. I guess I thought you had once since you got the other band off. I have this one and it works fine

u/lelumberjole · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I have this Casio and have received a lot of compliments on it. There are a lot of similar style available if you just search "Casio watch" on Amazon or something. And it's less than ten bucks.

u/awubis · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Wow sorry, I could've sworn I replied to this comment. I used Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP. I bought it mainly just to darken my boots, but it doesn't hurt that it also has protective qualities.

u/chimichangaXL · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I got this one. Not too expensive and comfortable after a few wears. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QJ69V8

Jeans are never business casual. You should check out Details Men's Style Manual. It will define business casual for you and help you build a classic adult wardrobe.

u/BalleR75 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

This $9 Casio watch. I don't own it yet but do you guys have any experience with it or have any fit pics?

u/comrade_robot · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

It's really easy. The band is attached to the watch with 'spring bars', which are basically pins with ends that are designed to be pushed in a bit so you can take the band off. The easiest way is to get a spring bar tool (http://www.amazon.com/7pc-Watch-Spring-Bar-Tool/dp/B005ZEWGSA $8.15 from Amazon, you can find spring bar tools cheaper). I've also done it with an x-acto knife and a screwdriver, but these run the risk of scratching the watch. There are instructions here: http://www.wikihow.com/Change-a-Watch-Band but you probably can figure it out. One tip is that for leather bands, generally the short end with the buckle is at the top of the watch.

u/h83r · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

smaller knot and brown pants instead of the blue on blue.

Edit: We can't see your shoes!

I agree with /u/mywifebroughtmehere, a watch is a good accessory. I found some really cheap ones on amazon that are simple and clean looking. I didn't want to buy expensive watches until I had some cheap ones to learn what I want on an expensive watch.

cheap watch 1

cheap watch 2

I see 3 different patterns within a 6in circle from each other. I think you would be better off with a light green pocket square to match your tie. That checkered part on your shirt is weird with the plaid, but I doubt it's visible much when the jacket is on.

u/word_virus · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

There's not really any rules here and you're free to buy any shoes that fit your fancy whenever. CDBs and other brown/black dress shoes get recommended a lot as your 'first' shoes because of their utility. They're shoes that go with just about anything. It's hard to recommend crazy colors to people coming here seeking generic advice simply because they're hard to match with anything without knowing the specific contents of their wardrobe. If you wanna experiment with colors you should probably start with Converse/Vans because they're cheap and they come in any color of the rainbow, so you're not out a ton of money if they don't end up working out or are of only limited utility. If you want something dressier, I think you might like a pair of white bucks - these'll go great with all your pastels. And if you wanna get a little crazy check out the Cole Haan Air Colton. They make these in a saddle shoe and an oxford that you can get with some crazy neon details.

Edit because I fucked up the link format.

u/sawedust · 5 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Look for white bucks.

Bass Buckinghams are a good start.

If you're looking for sneakers, there's ton of options out there. 70s Chucks or new Jack Purcells are where I'd look. Highly consider the Adidas Stan Smiths too.
