So about a year or two ago I began experiencing similar problems. One day it was so bad that on a whim in a drug store I purchased a little blue tub of Nivea Creme. It was cheap, but I figured I'd give it a try as I've liked some of their other products, especially their post shave balm which helped with razor burn and bumps.

Now I had never used moisturizers or anything on my face before. I would just wash it with a face wash when I showered and went to bed. But a friend of mine was working at Vogue or GQ and got my gf a couple of free samples of this stuff called Crème de la Mer. She absolutely swore by and I could definitely see the improvement in her skin. But as you can see here, at nearly $200 per ounce it's not cheap. But I got curious as to what made it so effective beyond hte marketing hype.

This led me to looking into the ingredients, and what do you know? That tub of Nivea Creme I bought almost has the matches. In fact, numerous other people have written about them and most say their performance is essentially the same. So unless your name is Daddy Warbucks and you don't mind spending 40 times the amount for what is at best a negligible difference, go with the Nivea Creme.

I recommend using it after you wash in the evening, and just leave it on nice and thick overnight. Then in the morning, rub some on your face before after washing again, but really rub it in this time. Within about 24-48 hours you will be as good as new, if not better.

I am a bit amatur as well but got some good advice from others. I have had a rough time getting some of my beard curls on one side of my face to stay down. I have had the best luck using beard oil and combing it a couple to 3 times a day real quick to tame it.
I know your pain on a good barber close by. I had to drive an hour to get mine trimmed. Not a big deal I just make an afternoon out of it. Just make sure you go somewhere they know what they are doing and they can help you out quite a bit since they will actually see you in person and hopefully suggest things specifically for you.

Here is my bit of advice and what I use.

First get a couple good combs, some beard oil and possibly some wax for your moustache.

This is what I have:

I use Kent Combs:
http://www.amazon.com/Kent-Hand-Made-General-Grooming/dp/B000YB5NRA/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1421265415&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=Kent+Hand+Made+General+Grooming+Comb+4T

Honest Amish beard oil:
http://www.amazon.com/Honest-Amish-Beard-Balm-Conditioner/dp/B009NNFB0O/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1421265484&sr=1-1&keywords=honest+amish

Firehouse Moustache Wax Dark. I have a dark beard so I use the dark wax. Its really tacky, and when I make my curls they stay well, but if you dont plan on handlebars then I might use something else that isnt so tacky:
http://www.amazon.com/Firehouse-Moustache-Wax-Dark/dp/B004W4PRAI/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1421265579&sr=1-1&keywords=firehouse+mustache+wax

u/Hilee_Biocosmetics · 1 pointr/malegrooming

lol totally understandable. Clean shaven is probably the best look for you right now.

But for sure, a thick beard comes with age.

I suggested the beard oil because it sounds like you trim often. After shaving, your skin craves some hydration, if not, it begins to flake.

As opposed to popular belief, oil isn't greasy because it is specifically designed to be absorbed by the skin. I use it about 2-3 times per week and I think it makes a difference in how healthy my skin is. And of course, the hair too. if you buy a good quality, natural beard oil there is no nasty greasy feeling or grease spots on your pillow.

Good luck on your date, dude. No matter what style you have, as long as you look neat and clean the girls will find you attractive.

Whenever you feel like trying the oil, I invite you to check out the HiLée Amazon page for a variety of Organic, natural and cruelty-free options for the bearded man.

I used to use CLINIQUE Skin Supplies for Men Oil Control Mattifying Moisturizer which I really like but its pretty expensive and I could only find it online, Aveeno for me has had very similar results and even though Aveeno doesn't say it, it also has a pretty mat/oil free finish that I like. During the summer I'll try their FPS 15 version but Im worried since sun screen usually causes me to break out/get super oily. I also used to use L'Oréal Paris Men Expert Pure Power Black Charcoal Purifying Wash which I loved but had to switch as it has been getting harder and harder to find and is a bit more expensive to the oil free acne wash by neutrogena

u/pinkythereddog · 5 pointsr/malegrooming

Have you thought about making the switch to a safety razor? As /u/Slayman420 said, head on over to /r/wicked_edge and read a few of the threads and side bar. Best thing I've ever done to move away from cartridge razors and my skin is looking better too.

Make sure your prepping your face well by either shaving after a nice hot shower or washing your face first with your Cetaphil and hot water. If you're not into moving to a safety razor, maybe look into getting better soap using a shaving brush and a good shaving soap. Learn how to lather it well and you'll notice a huge difference with that alone.

Usually when I shave I do three passes: one with the grain, one across the grain (literally going horizontal on the face) and then if I need it, going against the grain. Don't press hard with the razor. Let it glide over your face.

Post shave, I wash my face with cold water then use a post shave balm.

Hope that helps!

Hi there! I also struggle with sensitive skin, and as a result I have problems with dandruff, oily skin (especially on the face), acne, acne scars, and eczema. Sensitive skin runs in my family (I'm Irish). So, I will give you a personal remedy that I developed over the last year that significantly reduced these problems.

I got some good initial information from this thread in /r/malefashionadvice. I use most of the products that he mentions there, my personal favorites being the cetaphil dermacontrol foam wash and the cetaphil dermacontrol moisturizer SPF 30.

For starters, it is important to get in a good skincare routine. I was always busy in high school and told myself that I didn't have time to waste taking care of my face. It wasn't until college that I realized my lack of skincare was really inhibiting my ability to feel confident, so that's when I decided I needed to get into a good routine. I started out by washing my face three times a day, and making sure I drink at least half a gallon of water throughout the day. Skin becomes oily when it is dehydrated, and drinking water is a good initial step to keeping it from being dehydrated.

I didn't really solidify my routine until I stumbled upon the /r/malefashionadvice skincare thread. It all depends on what works for your skin type, but for my oily sensitive skin, this is what I found works best:

  • I wash my face three times a day, once in the morning and afternoon each with cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, and before bed with the cetaphil dermacontrol foam wash.

  • Each time after washing my face, I also apply the Dickinson's witch hazel pore perfecting toner. It's a lot harder to find than the cetaphil products (I just picked those up from walgreens), but it is definitely worth it. I've tried two or three other toners and all of them left my skin very oily and irritated. It smells a little off, but it's not really a lingering smell

  • After the toner has set in, I apply cetaphil dermacontrol moisturizer SPF 30. I'll also apply this throughout the day if I'm outside a lot. It helps control the sheen of my skin by keeping it moisturized. Make sure you wash your hands with soap and water before putting this on because you do not want dirt getting into your pores!

  • To get rid of the stubborn blackheads that won't go away, I use pore strips about once a week.

  • I wash my pillowcase once a week and my bedsheets every two weeks. Every night sweat and dirt and dead skin comes off of your face and hair and goes into your pillowcase and bedsheets. Keep them clean so your face has a nice sanitary place to rest for 8 hours every night.

  • I also wash my towels once a week. I have four that I cycle throughout the week (one every two days). Washing your towels is just as important as washing your pillowcase/bedsheets because they are supposed to wipe away the dirt in your face, so if you don't wash them regularly, that dirt just accumulates and goes back into your pores.

After finally getting into a good facial skincare routine, I started having problems with excema and dandruff. I fortunately had a routine physical with my doctor where I asked him what I could do about these problems. This is where you may disagree with me, but he told me that I should not shower more than once a week. As I mentioned earlier, skin becomes oily/irritated when it is dehydrated, and one of the easiest ways to dehydrate your skin is excessive bathing. The doctor told me to shower once a week and more importantly to not use soap on areas besides the face, armpits, and genitals.

I told my doctor that I shower everyday because I go to the gym and sweat furiously. He told me to just take a quick rinse after the gym to wipe the sweat off, and to apply lotion daily. I apply Jergen's Ultra Healing lotion once every night before bed.

As for dandruff, this is where you may need to look elsewhere. While I do have dandruff, it's not much of a problem for me simply because it isn't very severe. I wash my hair three or four times a week with Dove Men + Care Sensitive Scalp. Since I don't shower, I usually just do this before bed by getting my hair wet in the shower, scrubbing the shampoo in vigorously with my fingers, then washing it out while also massaging my scalp. If that product doesn't work for you, you can't go wrong with some Head & Shoulders.

I hope this helps you, let me know if you think there's anything I left out!

    EDIT: added towel-washing regimen

You should use any trimmer with the guard on the balls. The Lawn Mower 2.0 has a ceramic blade, not a plastic one. Ceramic blades are supposed to cut closer then stainless steel ones. What I find curious is why you have to replace the blades of The Lawn Mower 2.0 so often. They state is for hygienic reasons. There are sprays and cleaners for trimmer and clipper blades: https://barber-and-beauty.andis.com/product/blade-care-plus%26reg%3B-spray-bottle-%2812-count-case%29/?item-no=12590 ,

https://www.amazon.com/Andis-Blade-Care-Spray-16-Ounce/dp/B004O95HCO/ref=sr_1_24?crid=2JNM1F4NZ4OCB&keywords=hair+clippers+cleaning+spray&qid=1558802744&s=gateway&sprefix=hair+clippers+cleaning%2Caps%2C674&sr=8-24 .

I never used The Lawn Mower 2.0 trimmer or any products from Manscaped, but I've heard good things about the company.

I use the Philips Norelco Series 1100 for the armpits and pubic area(shaft and balls): https://www.usa.philips.com/c-p/BG1026_60/norelco-bodygroom-1100-wet-dry-body-groomer-series-1000 ,

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010XIGBUQ/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2RCCIA4QDKERJ&colid=BW9IAKXX6MZO. It has 2 combs. One that trims at 0.5 mm and one that trims at 3 mm. I use the trimmer with the 0.5 mm on the armpits and pubic area(shaft and balls). It looks almost as close as it would be shaven. It runs on an AA battery. I use this Phillips AA battery: https://www.usa.philips.com/c-p/LR6P4B_27/power-alkaline-battery ,

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0751GLKYR/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1515162078&sr=8-9&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=philips+aa+battery&dpPl=1&dpID=41imti30n0L&ref=plSrch. This is the battery that comes with the trimmer and it's also recommended by Philips. I use it once a week and the battery lasts me about 4 months. The trimmer is waterproof. I have it for 3 years now and it still produces a very good trim. I am very satisfied with the product and I recommend it. The fact that it runs on an AA battery means that it's best used for smaller areas(like armpits and pubic area). If you would use it for all of the body hair you would run through the batteries very fast. Since I use it only on my armpits and the groin area, it lasts about 4 months.

On the rest of my body hair(arms, legs, chest, butt) I use a trimmer from Remington which is also waterproof: http://www.remingtonproducts.com/Products/Mens/Clippers-And-Trimmers/Face-and-Body-Trimmers/PG6255-WETech-Face-and-Body-Kit.aspx?fbclid=IwAR3GgMKde9FZ-4v_EFo46-2OHC6O42kr3L3IBcc61qw3MuVIhI44K9qdB68 ,

Here are some things that I have found help for me at least:

1.) The biggest one is manscaping. Honestly. I bought a $20 set of clippers from walmart, and it has worked wonders. My pits are the biggest offender, so I use a #1 guard on the clippers, and take care of them. Less hair means less surface area for bacteria to grow an cling to.

2.) When showering, is use a basic shower brush. It is abrasive enough to feel like it is really clearing everything away, with the added benefit of exfoliation.

3.) Using a moisturizing bar of soap. My normal process is: rinse, soap, brush, rise, soap, brush, rinse.

4.) Others have mentioned Certain Dri which you apply at night before bed, and works wonders. I also rotate between 3 different deodorants/antiperspirants from day to day. If I only use 1, it is like my skin develops a resistance to it. My brain wants to say that is total crap, but I get better results by rotating. I then hit my chest with a light spray of body spray, like Axe. A little goes a long way with these. Srsly. After I am dressed, I use one squirt of cologne and I'm good to go.

Hope some of these help. Hang in there brother!

First, you've got a good head of hair my man! You've got the foundation for a barber to do their thing!

My suggestion is a typical one found here, but you could rock pretty much any cut where its short on the sides & longer and styled on top. Here are a few photos for inspiration:

Side Part Comb Over

Fade with Sweep Back

Relaxed Brushed Over

It might just be the pictures you posted, but it doesn't look like you use any product in your hair. I would buy some product and test out different styles.

Here are a couple products (low to medium price range):

American Crew Forming Cream

Bed Head Matte Separation Wax

My personal favourite Fatboy

Hope this helps! You can always try /r/malehairadvice as well! Good luck!

Here is my routine with items and products that work for me.

I cannot oversell my love for this razor:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001GQ3GEY

It's technically not a hair trimmer, but with the wide blade option it certainly works if you're going for a short buzz. It also lasts forever (I've had mine for running on 5 years), and I honestly have to charge it once every few months.

It is worth mentioning that some of the attachments work better than others, and the plastic stand it comes with is pretty cheap.

u/brainguy222 · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

Buy a semi-professional one. The cheaper ones, $20 and below, don't last long, but if you are only going to use it for trimming your side burns or nose hairs and not an actual beard, then it will serve you fine. Ask your local barber where he gets his trimmer. The brand and model he gets will likely be the high quality and easier to get in your area. (sounds like you live overseas) If you want it shipped to you from the US i say something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Andis-Professional-T-Outliner-Personal-Trimmer/dp/B000143C0K/ref=sr_1_16?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1335288490&sr=1-16

Andis is a very good company, but make sure to get their more expensive stuff because their cheap stuff is not all that great.

u/pdxiowa · 4 pointsr/malegrooming

Trimmers I've owned:

Wahl All-in-One 9854-600

Pros: powerful clippers with a very long battery life. Suitable for all types of body hair grooming.

Cons: Only one guard that I consider suitable for stubble length and I'd prefer more options on that front. Not waterproof.

Trym II

Pros: Charging stand and sleek look allows you to keep it in plain sight on your bathroom counter without the counter appearing cluttered.

Cons: Fewer guard options than the Wahl, and seemed less powerful, although for the purposes of trimming stubble it seemed minimally sufficient.

Trimmers I'd consider if I were in the market right now:

Something more premium: Philips Norelco Beard trimmer Series 7200

Philips is generally at the top of the list for reviews of beard trimmers, and the dedicated beard trimmer gives you more options for stubble length. Lastly, after a couple years of maintaining stubble-length growth, I can now see why the vacuum feature would be desirable. Trimming down to stubble is messy business.

Something affordable, yet highly rated and with more options for stubble length: Wahl Beard Trimmer

I have, on occasion, wished I had more versatility in choosing a stubble length (a little longer or just a tad shorter - depending). A dedicated beard trimmer that doesn't break the bank would be a good starting point on that front.

u/icecow · 1 pointr/malegrooming

I spent most of my childhood and some of my adulthood thinking haircuts are a waste of money, but it's the opposite. I feel so much better with decent haircuts. Now I see letting my hair go too long as wasted youth.

Go to barber and tell them you want something more clean cut and modern, because you got to get away from 'this' and point to your hair. People want to help others that are interested in bettering themselves. It helps to walk in there wearing better clothes too. Better clothes can be a matching belt and solid teeshirt. Take pictures. After you figure out a few cuts and have pictures you can go to $10 barbers and show them the pictures. If you find a good enough $10 barber you can get your hair cut more often. Get it cut every 5 weeks four times in a row and see how you think about yourself. Again, there's nothing deficient about you. You just 'wear' your hair, beard, shirt and facial expression like you are saying 'whatever'. Go for that other posters Van Dyke suggestion.

get one of these and a shavette and do the van dyke thing or other. https://www.amazon.com/Andis-T-Outliner-Trimmer-T-Blade-04710/dp/B000143C0K/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1469511454&sr=8-1&keywords=andis+t+liner

I got this: Remington MB-200, $15, has a rechargeable battery and variable trimming levels. It kinda sucks for an actual clean shave as its a beard trimmer, but since I'm doing the stubble thing to it works pretty well, I either use the 1 or no guard setting. The major con is that its disposable; i.e., you can't replace the parts (blade, battery, etc.) but it is $15 so hey, thems the stakes. Add a standard disposable razor to your kit for the occasional clean shave and you've got a pretty cheap facial hair grooming solution.

Philips Bodygroom.

I've used it for quite a while with great success. Both the trimmer and foil attachment work extremely well. With the foil, you can get very close to the smoothness from a razor, without any razor burn or ingrown hairs.

It will do hard to reach areas pretty well, but a mirror (or two) helps and be sure to go over an area several times.

u/thekilla20 · -2 pointsr/malegrooming

When I need to look professional and keep the beard, I usually trim it down to a size 2-3 using this, even though it's made for body hair, works fantastic for facial hair.

I shave with a straight, so typically I edge off the backs of my sideburns and neck, so it doesn't look like scraggly pubic hair around my neck. Then I'll edge off the hair from my upper lip so it doesn't go over and edge the top of my mustache so it doesn't go into my nostrils and its even. It ends up looking usually like this, but a little shorter. Also if you go to that website it can help you to figure out some stuff regarding maintenance of beards.

Normally I sport a chinstrap that looks like this, but sometimes a beard is nice.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

Merkur Long-Handles Safety Razor, hands down the best there is.

Ps. You won't be dissapointed in your shave, safety razors give such a great shave your face shines from lack of hair, angles weep that they cannot be so silky smooth, and women flock to you for just one, delightful touch of your glistening skin.

Go here. It will tell you how many calories you burn on a given day. Eat less calories than you burn, and you'll lose weight.

A healthy pace is losing 1-2 lbs a week (3500-7000 calorie weekly deficit). I recommend taking vitamin supplements while you diet, just to make sure you're getting all of your body's requirements.

I also recommend going to a nutritionist and paying ~$200 for them to measure your body fat percentage. Make sure to ask them the margin for error on their test.

Edit: Here are some other things you should do:

  1. Clothes - Get into fashion. Wear collard shirts at the least. Take your clothes to a tailor and have them fitted to your body.
  2. Hair - Get a different hair cut (simple, short, straight). Your hair is making you look unkempt.
  3. Skin care - It will make your skin look healthier, stay younger as you age, and will generally make you more attractive. Go here to learn the basics. Yes, he's gay. His skin is also fan-fucking-tastic.

    Cleanser
    Moisturizer
    Exfoliater

Cleanse then moisturize every day. Exfoliate before you cleanse every 2-3 days. Rub it in gently, or you'll get red bumps on your face from irritation.
u/bozzwtf · 5 pointsr/malegrooming

No personal experience, but I hear this is great.

One thing I can say is, be sure to wash your face twice a day, and moisturize overnight. It will really help your skins irritation and will eventually help it adjust.

Expensive, but it works. I like the little roller bottle for application. I had exactly the same thing you do. I shave with an electric razor using lectric shave as a lube, then just apply this afterward. Works like a champ.

I've used Norelco's for a long time until I saw the reviews for the IStubble by Conair. All my Norelco's could only go as short as 1mm and since I have a lot of facial hair, I wanted my stubble to be even shorter so it is less pronounced and more 5 o'clock shadow-ish. The IStubble goes to .4 mm which is perfect for me.

I have to say the Istubble wins hands down against any of my Norelcos. Also, its pivoting head makes it a lot easier to get around my chin thoroughly.

Goes from 0 to 10mm in half increments, has a vacuum that's pretty great about catching loose hair, and lasts a while on a charge.

I bought the BG2020 a few months ago and it is doing a pretty good job for the exact same use case you have. The addition of the foil shaver to the head makes it really good for the crotch. Can get down really close and I've had no ingrowns down there which would suck. Look on amazon i foung the BG2028 which i assume would be an upgrade over my version given the higher number. Seems to be reviewed better as well. It also lands in the same price range as the two you posted.

Philips Bodygroom Pro, best trimmer I've ever purchased, great for everything

For some reason it has two different names on US/CA Amazon:

Amazon.com

Amazon.ca

u/Qwigs · 8 pointsr/malegrooming

It is generally recommended that you use one shaver for your face and a different one for everything else.

My favorite face shaver is a Braun series 7. I prefer its straight foil because I need to trim around the edges of my beard. I tried using a multi-head round shaver from Norelco and couldn't achieve that nice straight line.

For the rest of your body hair I recommend the Philips Norelco Bodygroom It has dual heads and is safe to use on your nether regions without risk of nicks and cuts.

u/urlefthand · 3 pointsr/malegrooming

I think you're looking for two different things. An electric razor would be good for shaving either his head or his beard smooth. Some beard trimmers can be set up to leave stubble. I've had good luck with Wahl Lithium-Ion models like this: http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-9854-600-Lithium-Ion-Trimmer/dp/B001GQ3GEY

The shaving attachment on that trimmer, however, is pretty much worthless. I prefer braun electric razors for shaving, but some people like norelco or panasonic.

u/definitelynotaspy · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

Get a trimmer with a long guard, I have this one which comes with a 1" guard, which should be long enough, but you can buy longer ones on Amazon. Then just go over your beard and it'll help even out the length overall, so it just looks generally nicer. You still get that big, thick beard effect but it's more presentable. Think more thick, less bushy.

Also trim up your neckline, but everyone else has already told you that much.

u/nuckingFutz · 3 pointsr/malegrooming

It's not the cheapest option, but it's lasted me a long time and I use it everywhere except my nose. The body groomer:

http://www.amazon.com/Philips-BG2040-34-Bodygroom-Grooming/dp/B0037HP9OA

Before this one, I had a wahl, which I really liked. It seemed very powerful and precise for the price. Eventually it started to rust.

May I ask why you will never go back to Dollar Shave Club? Also, I had had good luck with the Merkur Long Handled Safety Razor (MK 23C) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NL0T1G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ujR4ybKK22DQ5

u/eoddc5 · 1 pointr/malegrooming

been using this philips norelco shaver on my body hair for years.... i love it. i do occasionally get ingrowns, so to fix that for the first 2-3 days after i "shave" i apply tend skin on the area and no problems

people complain that tend skin is expensive, but using it on my chest and stomach only after shaving for a few days (about weekly?), a 16oz bottle lasts for me, about a year.

good luck

Nothing beats this.

I've heard good things about Cetaphil in regards to Acne. It's what I used to use. Otherwise I really like Trader Joe's lotion. Not the round bottle but the square one.

Cheers.

I have senestive skin so I always try to get something that helps me not to break out. The cream keeps my face smooth and teh razor best bang for the buck

If you want to save some money I just use a hairclippers. Something like this.

I use no accessories for neckline and usually the smallest accessory on my beard for a nice short beard. I tried electric razors once and I think my skin is too sensitive, especially the neck area.

Does your bathroom have adequate lighting for shaving? Can you see what your are doing? Do you drink water? Would you say you are hydrated?

If so, get these supplies from whichever supplier you prefer. You don't need to get them from Amazon, they just tend to have the most product information. You also don't need them all at once, money doesn't grow on trees, but the list below probably costs less than 3 months of Mach 3 blades and it will last you a year or more. You need the first 3 links first. The others are helpful, but you will be able to asses your needs as you go.

The picture you have is NOT a 5 o'clock shadow. The meaning behind the phrase "5 o'clock shadow" is that you would've shaved early in the morning and by the late afternoon you have that extremely short stubble show. That's a couple days worth of stubble on Mr. Cooper there.

As for the stubble look, get a beard trimmer and use it on the 1 setting without the plastic cover for the blades. This is the one I have.

And remember - the stubble looks is great but the feel is (most of the time) passionately hated by a significant other. It feels like sandpaper on their face. Just something to think of.

u/nolookz · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

The BG-2040 has been quite nice. Good for use wet or dry. It has a trimmer on one side for longer hair, and then the shaver on the other side.

Not specifically familiar with the 105 or 110.

u/us416 · 1 pointr/malegrooming

Talk to your partner to find out what they would prefer you do.

When I tidy up, I use one of these on the number 2 setting: http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Lithium-Ion-All-Trimmer/dp/B001GQ3GEY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1310011071&sr=8-2

After buzzing it down, I take a women's razor (shut up, the extra "guard" helps) to my cajones and make them baby smooth.

It's more work than I would normally do, but my wife loves me that way and if it gets me more action, I'm all for it.

u/captainkr · 5 pointsr/malegrooming

I'm in the same boat. I've been using this istubble thing for a while with great results. You can actually dial in the desired length from 0.6 mm to 5.0 mm in increments of 0.2-0.5 mm. I've had it for over a year without problems...

u/OklaJosha · 1 pointr/malegrooming

wahl makes very good trimmers. Pretty much every barber I've been to has one. For body hair, get a cordless one. I'd suggest this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Lithium-Ion-Grooming-9854-600/dp/B001GQ3GEY

I don't like completely shaving because it gets itchy when it starts to grow back, so I usually just trim short enough that it's not curling all over the place. I think I use a #4 guard or somewhere around there, see what works out best for you. If you like the smoothness, then you can always use the trimmer everyday to keep short enough (there will still be some stubble if you don't use a razor but it will be minimal)

u/Vicktaru · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

When I shower I start off by applying argan oil conditioner to my beard (can be found at any major grocery or convenience store) and leave it on for my entire shower. After I'm done showering I add a little leave in conditioner as well and my beard is strong, shiny and soft.

u/bamgrinus · 3 pointsr/malegrooming

I decided to upgrade awhile ago to this trimmer and I think it was a great decision. Those body hair trimmers always seem so flimsy and I probably went through at least 4 of them.

u/cgravito · 1 pointr/malegrooming

To be honest , I recently bought this and I have a norelco body groomer but it has all the attachments for it where I don't really even need the body groomer at this point. Only downfall is that I can't use it in the shower but meh, what ever. It is a hell of a beard trimmer too I must say. The foil trimmer gets pretty close on the body in sensitive areas if you get my drift...

Edited: As a heads up, it doesn't come with the stand but I e-mailed Amazon and complained about it, and they offered me a 30% refund on it. Well worth it in my opinion. Even at full price , it's worth it.

u/nmelo · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

I've had this one

http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Norelco-BG2040-BodyGroom-Pro/dp/B0037HP9OA/ref=sr_1_10?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1381776389&sr=1-10&keywords=philips+shaver

For a while now. Very comfortable and can be used in the shower, which is convenient because you don't have to deal with all the hair in the floor.

I've been on Acne.org's regimen since 2003 and it has helped me cleared my acne.

I use these products in the morning and before I go to bed:

u/MusicSavesUs · 1 pointr/malegrooming

Norelco Bodygroom

It's kind've expensive, but totally worth it!

u/ziggy88 · 1 pointr/malegrooming

I have the braun shaver hands down the best electric shaver, but the extension for beard trimmer went out. I'm now looking to get Remington MB-200 or Wahl 9918-6171 Groomsman Beard and Mustache Trimmer

u/Pat_ron · 7 pointsr/malegrooming

I've shaved that before, I am not tremendously harry myself but enough for it to bother me... Anyway, the problem with shaving is that hair starts growing back SUPER quick and it is prickly as hell, trimming might be a good way to go. Trimmers are hair trimmers/clippers ==>> [LIKE THESE] (http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-79300-400-Color-Complete-Haircutting/dp/B000JNQSIQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396227467&sr=8-1&keywords=clippers)

Also, wet wipes are WAY BETTER than any TP you could think of. Check out Costco's

u/testudinidae · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

Depending on the length of your beard, it may be helpful to use some sort of product in it. I use this stuff, which seems to keep things manageable.

u/blackstation · 1 pointr/malegrooming

I own this one

http://www.amazon.com/Philips-BG2028-42-Bodygroom-Packaging/dp/B007VB50JC/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1411206271&sr=8-14&keywords=philips+multigroom

Or at least its european version, but with the very same head. As a fairly hairy guy with a lot of curly body hair I must say that I'm not very impressed, but I haven't yet been impressed by a body trimmer. With guards it works just fine and makes my fur look way better without much effort, even though the combs scratch a little. Without guards it gets a bit tricky when I navigate around my pecs and the even stubble is not always quite achievable. Shaving works OK, there is no other way for me to shave my balls quicker.

u/ifrit1100 · 1 pointr/malegrooming

Actually you go. $30. Similar model, might be ok?

u/Jesse_berger · 11 pointsr/malegrooming

Get a stubble trimmer that allows you to easily adjust the height of the trimmers.

This is what I have

u/del_rio · 7 pointsr/malegrooming

Magic Powder or equivalent. Mix with water, lather on ass, wait ~7 minutes. I only did it once like 5 years ago, but it worked hilariously well.

u/Quo_Vadimus · 1 pointr/malegrooming

I think the consensus for this question in the past has been the iStubble... I have no first hand experience with it however.

u/jjason82 · 3 pointsr/malegrooming

Any general body hair trimmer will do just fine. You don't need anything specific. Shaving your balls isn't rocket science. Here's one with high reviews on Amazon.

u/jimboslice1848 · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

I own this Philips Norelco Beard trimmer Series 7200, Vacuum trimmer with 20 built-in length settings, BT7215/49 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0199RDFA6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_G0RPAb535KVYQ

It has been a beast for a cordless. The lithium ion battery makes a big difference in power. I've cut off a few thick beards with this dude. Seems like it checks off the boxes you mentioned.

u/Iowa_Dave · 3 pointsr/malegrooming

Have you ever tried Shaving Powder?

It basically dissolves the hair. It's used by guys with very curly whiskers that want to burrow back into the skin.

Lather up with this.

Shave in the shower using this.

Conair GMT900/R i-Stubble
I haven't used it personally, but I've posted about it before and other redditors have vouched for its effectiveness.

u/jlevy1126 · 1 pointr/malegrooming

Look into beard conditioner. I use this.

u/DownRUpLYB · 1 pointr/malegrooming

I'll check it out.

I'm currently using this one (ignore the price, semms to be a mistake): http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Bt5260-Precision-Stubble-Trimmer/dp/B00J5D920M/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412612395&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=phillips+bt5260

and it doesn't work very well. I just end up putting it on the 0.4 (the shortest) setting.

I also had this before the Phillps: http://www.amazon.com/Conair-i-Stubble%C2%AE-Ultimate-Stubble-Control/dp/B004PXIR1W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412612508&sr=8-1&keywords=i+stubble

and again, it was just patchy. I don't understand why.
