probably a 32 key hohner instructor: Hohner 32B Piano-Style Melodica Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0055DCWKS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_XSFTDb1SSKRWE its a bit more than the 20 dollar ones but its probably the best beginner melodica you can find that can be played even when you're advanced.

otherwise, the ones going for 20 on amazon are generally fine. the only downside would be that you might have to tune it, but really you might have to tune it regardless of what you buy. if you think you're gonna commit to the melodica tho really it can be worth it to drop a bit more on it but the 20 dollar ones are perfectly fine and often sound perfectly fine

regardless, make sure the one you buy comes with a tube mouthpiece. the hohner airboards don't come with a tube and only the weird wonky mouthpiece and I had to buy a seperate tube for 20 smh

I'm a big fan of the Performer 37. Mine was nicely in-tune, had great tone and volume, and was comfortable to play. And the included carrying case works great. I found the Performer 37 on Amazon for only $60, in case you're looking for the best possible price.

As a word of warning, If you get the Performer 37, don't be an idiot like me and expose it to a torrential downpour. Tons of water can mess up the case.

I got mine as a hand-me-down. It's a Stagg, and I like it.

While I'm sure there are better ones, even cheapies are nice.

Some day I want this bad boy: the Andes sounds like a recorder in melodica format, but it's $200!

I bought one of these for a friend's kid, and I thought it sounded about as nice as any.

I have not yet had the opportunity to try several at one time at a store, I imagine if you could, you'd start to hear some small differences, but probably not as big as the difference between different types of harmonica.

I have a 37-key Hohner and I love it. Looks like it's about $25 more, but I like having more range and I'm really happy with the sound quality.

Looks like this:

But maybe not since this model has a name on it and the one in the video doesn't.

I think its more skill than melodica. I have played a lot of models and for sound and quality I would say the Suzuki m37. Its quite a smooth sound over the harsh sounding cheaper ones. Also has stayed in tune a lot more than any other melodica I own.
