You guys liked my original layout:
I recently got the PA in the mail and had to make some changes. This is the pelican 1170 for those interested:
I love this little box and love that I can fit everything I need in it! Just thought I'd share my layout for anyone looking into pelican cases.

Edit: the containers on the top right are abv(left) finishing grinder(middle) and pre ground weed (right) that couldn't make it into the trench.

u/bannable01 · 4 pointsr/mflb

I'm guessing no one actually enlarged your photo, since it's hosted like it's 2004. To host in a way the RES (Reddit Enhancement Suite) can display here you must post an url that ends in ".jpg" or whatever file type. Imgur is the best free site for this.

Second Your grind is bad. I don't want to make you feel bad, but you are severely limiting the performance of your box by using herb like this. It should be ground as close to kief consistency as possible.

This picture Demonstrates what your grind should look like. The grind on the left is from a normal 4 piece, the grind on the right is from the Finishing Grinder. Basically Kief. Think it's like $20 on Amazon.

This picture shows a normal 4 piece grind, upside down 4 piece and the FG grind. Just without comparison objects.

As you can see an upside down 4 piece is nearly FG quality grind. Less consistent, but totally usable. If I held the grinder upside down for longer I could probably get all the way there. Or very nearly.

Alternately people will put herb in a pill bottle with a coin and shake it up, to get a fine grind.

If you don't have a grinder This is a great 4 piece that is about as affordable as fancy coffee.

/u/mflbninja we REALLY need a stickied grind post in this sub man. with example pictures. Let me know if there's anything you want me to do in order to help.

Use mineral oil or a mineral oil/beeswax mix that you can either make yourself (there are many "spoon butter" recipes but the one I use is 50% mineral oil and 50% beeswax) or you can buy cutting board cream which is usually the same thing. I use both mineral oil and the mix, applying the mineral oil first and letting it sit for a good thirty minutes or so before rubbing it in and then letting it sit for about six hours to set. Then I apply the spoon butter and let that sit for a while before rubbing in and letting it set. Sometimes I apply the cream more than once so I can develop a nice protective wax coating on the wood, which will last for at least a year.

This stuff should be great for the MFLB. I plan on trying it once I run out of my homemade stuff.

Edited for clarity purposes

4-5 hits and I'm feeling pretty good. I've found that the most important factor, is the battery. Like how long to hold the battery before attempting to sip. And knowing how often and how much to sip to keep a good temp. And that as you vape a trench and use up the battery, it takes longer.

Also, about charging them. I don't recommend using the charger that came with your mflb. I know with mine the batteries got really hot with it. I have This One that I got from Amazon. Its fantastic.

u/itsjib · 4 pointsr/mflb

The gold batteries are great, but I'd also advise looking into non-mflb brand batteries. I've had a lot of success with Powerex, they last as long as the ones on the mflb site. You just gotta strip them which is a little annoying.

Plus they come with a nice case. The gold ones are great though, I'm using them now. Can't go wrong.

u/21TQKIFD48 · 3 pointsr/mflb

Actually, you can get a finishing grinder for just over $23 including shipping on Amazon right now. The cherry one is the cheapest at the moment, but the price difference for the others is only a few dollars.

Breaking it into small chunks with my hands generally works fine for me, unless the bud hasn't been dried well enough. You should be able to get close to the same grind with most two piece grinders, but it will most likely be a lot more work. One thing that's pretty important in the launch box is having a consistent grind, and that's where the finishing grinder excels. Because of the way it works, it gets a very fine, consistent grind in one pass.

u/BobbyApFL · 1 pointr/mflb

Also, after a certain period of time, condensation under my screen made my MFLB not heat really effectively. I know you say you're a broke college student... been there, trust me. But get good batteries, and a good charger. This is really the only option. If you use daily get the Energizer 15 minute charger, and the PowerEx 2700... The PowerEx even come with a great plastic case that holds 4 batteries.

u/NURPNURPNURPNURP · 1 pointr/mflb

I just posted this in another thread, but I love my pill crusher for getting a find grind, and its much easier than the quarter in a pill bottle method. and doesn't take long at all. I even like it more than the finishing grinder.

It can also store ground herbs for the next trench or two. This is the same one I use, I think I paid $5.

u/keegankhan · 2 pointsr/mflb

-lifetime warranty

-generally sold now for about $80 (US).

-very stealthy

-SAVES MATERIAL! Smoking is a huge waste imo. The MFLB only uses like .1 or .2 Gs per trench. It only takes me one trench to get reasonably high, 2 to get higher, and 3 to get pretty damn high.

-of all the portable vapes out there, it is definitely the best bang for your buck as it works beautifully once you've gotten the technique down.

I suggest you buy extra batteries though. These will do perfectly...

u/wedinbruz · 4 pointsr/mflb

It's definitely your batteries. You can buy 2 new ones for $10+shipping from MFLB, but any rechargeable over 2200-2400 mAh will work. I bought my box before they came out with the Glyph batteries, the ones that came with mine lasted about a year and a half of daily use before I broke down and bought some 2200 mAh Duracells from Wal-Mart. They lasted maybe 6-8 months each but were shitty quality, I just wanted to vape again. I bought 2 glyphs and they were better than the original ones had ever been, I lost one but the other is still going strong after almost a year in rotation with the Duracells.

I've never used them, but these were the standard recommendation before the glyphs came out. I think they're comparable and cheaper. But now I have a power adapter which I got heavily marked down (less than $50) during Black Friday sales and it has absolutely been worth it, to the point where I bring it with me when I go out and find a discreet outlet rather than relying on batteries. I think it's overpriced at full retail but I understand why they charge so much, just glad I got one before they start cracking down on resellers. I've spent maybe $160 all told on my box, PA, and the replacement batteries, and the MFLB has still saved me money (I think) on weed.

u/4daughters · 3 pointsr/mflb

Yikes, Amazon only charges me $10 here in the US for those Powerex batteries. I don't know if the duracells are worth it either(never used them), but if they're like the Amazon Basics high capacity batteries, they'd probably be better bang for the buck. For reference, they seem to be slightly better than the OEM batteries that come with the box.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/mflb

Pelican 1020 is what I am using. I like it. Link to solid black. You can save a few bucks if you don't mind a clear top lid. Water proof, smell proof (when closed), and pretty much indestructible.

u/RandomGuyinACorner · 1 pointr/mflb

These are the batteries I went with. They hold more of a charge, seem to be more powerful, and are less expensive. A lot of the reviews also say how well they work with the MFLB. All you need to do is peel off the wrapper and clean them. It took be about 10 minutes to peel all them off and clean off the glue with some 90% iso.

u/LackingCreativityATM · 1 pointr/mflb

Keep your box clean, use fresh batteries(seriously gotta keep these things charged to work well) I would highly recommend the finishing grinder i can't really recommend the Power adapter as I have never owned one, but I hear it's a game changer. I personally moved on to a pinnacle pro vaporizer, but the MFLB still has a spot in my heart.

u/EntLowkick · 2 pointsr/mflb

This is what I have:

Coupled with these

works great, and charging 4 batteries at a time is better than 2. I like to use the volt readout to give me an idea of how much life is left. As soon as they get to around 1.35v I ditch em.

u/9delta9 · 2 pointsr/mflb

Glad to help - the box shorts out the battery as part of how it works, so it does weaken the batteries over time. The panasonic XX batteries should be easy to find at bestbuy etc ( ) but i'd reccomend the amazon ones over them just on cost :

all you have to do with either is peel the outer sticker off around them. I use a knife point to get under and peel it off. I hear wd-40 and a rag gets any stickiness off really quick.. and then you're good to go! and they work with the existing charger.

u/Hrel · 3 pointsr/mflb

Yeah man, this one.

Don't skimp out and buy a knock off either, get this exact one. $30 is not that much considering how many times you're going to use it. Also, because of the fantastic "refresh" cycle; you'll get much more life out of your batteries.

Anecdote: I had 6 old AA rechargeable batteries that I was going to throw away, because they just couldn't hold a charge anymore. These things were older than most cars on the road today. Using this charger I was able to keep 4 of them. Imagine how long they would have lasted if I had bought something like this the day I bought those batteries!!! They'd probably NEVER die!

u/Raealise · 2 pointsr/mflb

Ive had this issue actually, batteries got so hot i couldn't let them touch anything (i have a melted dent in my keyboard) I got these batteries and charger as a replacement, they don't get nearly as hot and are much much better, good luck!

u/jkmugs · 0 pointsr/mflb

As far as I know the launch box is the only vape that uses AAs. Here's some cheap ones I like better than the regular magic flight batteries (just have to take the casing off)

u/cquick97 · 2 pointsr/mflb

Most people get more powerful third party batteries anyways.

Just strip the outside so it looks like the MF batteries.

u/GabbyMFJohnson · 1 pointr/mflb

Best $25 bucks you can spend if you vape.

use mine with my Da Buddha as well and at least to me, the difference is noticeable. Just grind up in your regular grinder as step one, put a couple pinches in your finishing grinder and you get instant powder.

The increase in surface area is key....

u/PitchforksForSale · 3 pointsr/mflb

I use my finishing grinder straight into a No Goo container now rather than straight into the MFLB.

It fits perectly, keeps my on-the-go kit smaller as I don't need to carry my bud pot and grinder with me, helps keep the smell down, speeds up re-loading and gives me a good idea how many trenches I have left before I reorder more.

u/The_Awful_Waffle · 2 pointsr/mflb

I got that really popular grinder off amazon that like $8 and I just turn it upside down and grind for a while and then put the weed in a film container with a dime and shake it for 5 to 7 minutes and it works really well. The longer you shake the more fine the herb will get.
$8 grinder

u/Jack_Benney · 1 pointr/mflb

This is one that caught my attention, but it seems like I have read about other brands/models that are better suited.

u/72purples · 1 pointr/mflb

All true. Plus the charger's currently $20 less on Amazon. I love my Powerex 2700s, and want one of these.

u/wlc · 1 pointr/mflb

If you have a good charger with a "refresh" feature, you can possibly get even better life by doing a refresh/recondition cycle every once in a while.

I own this one, but it appears the newer ones have had really bad ratings so I don't know if I'd recommend them anymore. But mine has worked great for about 5 years, I think:

u/PiMpMySaLaD · 1 pointr/mflb

Get an instaspark on amazon. Just do that it use to be around 25 might be cheaper now. Its a CNC cut grinder I've been using it for 2+ years its great. Got it on amazon.

Edit: here it is
its 12.99 it works amazing IMO I vape so I like a really fine grind and it does that. I mean you have to clean it every once in a while but that's normal

u/mflbdude · 1 pointr/mflb

amazon also sells them in singles for like 3 bucks..

i will personally attest to the validity of these products.
get the multi pack, you may have the option to buy concentrates, or make them yourself, and then you can have diff. containers for each.
also great for storing loose keif youve collected.

they dont fucking stick yo!

u/traktorhead · 2 pointsr/mflb

Yes, the Amazon batteries are fine. I uses the 2400s all the time. But I'd recommend this charger or something similar

You can change the rate of recharge, set it as low as 300ma or 500/700/1000. And you can set it to completely drain your batteries before charging. I also have 18650s so this thing is necessary for me.

u/Thuse · 2 pointsr/mflb
i just ordered this one yesterday i thought it was marked down pretty nice, not sure how good it is yet, because i haven't used it!

u/BigOldSwingingWeiner · 3 pointsr/mflb

There's no way to reverse battery degradation, however a new set of batteries are pretty cheap. I like to order from puff it up, here is a link to where you can purchase a new set of batteries!

Edit: You can also order a 4 pack on amazon

peel off the outside layer, remove the glue and you're good to go!

u/cxvader · 1 pointr/mflb

Totally worth it. I was asking myself the same question and I'm glad I bought it. Check Amazon for it.

u/va3243 · 1 pointr/mflb recommend one of these babies. charge 2 @ 80min, charge 4 in 2hr, 30min. check out the reviews for details. comes with decent battery set as well.

u/N_Taylor · 5 pointsr/mflb

I grind 2-3 grams in my Space Case 4-piece, then let it sit in the grinder for a day or two before re-grinding in the Finishing Grinder. The stickiness is gone and there is no gumming.

The Finishing Grinder is the exact size to fit onto the top of a Space Case Stash Case .... and now there are 2-3 grams of finely ground dry herb ready to be vaped.

YMMV, -Nick

u/marbles1112 · 1 pointr/mflb

I left out a crucial piece of information... I have a larger grinder that is much better. In fact it was also quite cheap, cheaper than the little one!

u/CausersOfThis · 2 pointsr/mflb

Awesome! And no problem at all. For a good grinder for the MFLB, everyone seems to say that the finishing grinder works really well, and apparently you don't even need to grind the herb before hand-- just break it up with your fingers a little bit. The only annoying thing is it's $40, which seems a little overpriced given its size, but I was looking around and found it on Amazon for almost half the price! And here's a blog post from Magic-Flight that introduces it and talks about it a little bit.

u/Seber · 1 pointr/mflb

Depends on how much money you want to spend on.. Vaporpedia recommends this one (30$) or this one (50$). ;)

u/Omega192 · 1 pointr/mflb

I bought a cheap 4-piece grinder on Amazon (I think it was this one, it was the same brand: and if you use the "upside down grind" technique you can get grinds that rival the finishing grinder. I might have pictures of the grind quality somewhere if you're interested.

u/Clutch_CC · 2 pointsr/mflb

I personally enjoy my Powerex batteries more than the gold plated. I ignite a little bit longer when using my gold plated

u/lokbok · 2 pointsr/mflb

I get Amazon Basic high capacity batteries. You just have to remember to peel off the sticker/sleeve

Looks like they also have a bundle with a charger.

u/G-III · 3 pointsr/mflb

These are the ones I ordered. LSD, and come in a case, good enough for me! Same performance as glyphs for me.

u/KickInTheButt · 1 pointr/mflb

If you want a cheap and solid one , id recommend you the Chromium Crusher you just have to turn it upside down and grind it until it's good for you. The only bad thing I can say about this grinder is the hole are a little big but worth the 15-20$!

u/Coreycry · 1 pointr/mflb

If you can grab Glyph batteries then go for it.
Otherwise read this to understand the consequences of your choices, and grab something in this range:
Powerex 2700mAh
Sanyo Eneloop XX 2500mAh
Imedion 2400mAh

They are well known by the MFLB community and you can't go wrong with these!

It's actually $6.99 and qualifies for Prime. :)

u/ALLCAPS_POTATO · 1 pointr/mflb

I believe if you ordered this one, then it came with a pouch. At least that's the one I'm gonna order haha.

u/imabigbookpublisher · 3 pointsr/mflb

Got these about 2 months ago, work extremely well and having 4 batteries means you don't have to worry about charging much at all

parchment paper or no-goo type container. Really anything that just keeps it from getting dust in it should be fine. It doesn't degrade nearly as quickly as plant matter. Keep in mind it's very sticky, so nothing porous.

u/nonzeroa · 2 pointsr/mflb

Pelican 1170 fits the LB, Orbiter and accessories. I need to pick up new pluck foam for the inside for a custom fit since I already cut it for something else.

Amazon -

u/iSecks · 2 pointsr/mflb

I got mine on Amazon like most people I assume. Everyone around here usually reccommends 2700s (nullvader linked to them), I did too for a while. But after a few months, they lose their charge if you don't use them for a few days.

Yesterday I found the batteries the box comes with, 4/$14. They're not as powerful but they're quite strong and they're low self-discharge, so you don't have to use them right after charging. Leave a few charged and they should be mostly full for a few months. Link!

u/NotTheNedShow · 1 pointr/mflb

I use one of these. It works fine as long as I keep it turned upside down so the herb doesn't fall through the holes. For that matter, your space case will probably work if you just flip it over.

u/Foamloller · 3 pointsr/mflb

Just fyi anyone's getting the grinder, it's cheaper on Amazon at the moment. (~$22)

u/ball_gag3 · 1 pointr/mflb

Has to be nimh batteries.

Edit: I bought these and they work amazingly Powerex MHRAAI4 Imedion AA 2400mAh 4-Pack Rechargeable Batteries

I use 4 glyphs and a 4 capacity powerex case

I had 4 powerex 2700 mA ( but those were too hot for me and I traded 4 of them for 2 glyphs

u/JokersSmile · 1 pointr/mflb

I use Powerex 2700 batteries.

Really all you need is NiMh batteries with at least 2000 Mah.

u/snowfalltranquility · 2 pointsr/mflb

These ones, you just have to peel the sticker off them before you use them but they are the same type of batteries that came with the mflb

u/Nosnets123 · 1 pointr/mflb

It was on sale, it's now $26. link

u/justmorethrowaway · 1 pointr/mflb

I charge mine whenever they die, I just keep a few spare. You're charging the batteries so fast because they only need a partial charge. In reality they full charge in about 2 hours for a single battery, and 3 hours if you charge 2 at once. My preferred batteries are these ones. They're really stron and allow for hard hits, but you have to be careful to not combust with these.

u/benboo · 2 pointsr/mflb

The batteries are powerex

The charger is from amazon

haven't actually gotten a chance to use the batteries yet, but unless they're faulty, they should work just fine. I had to strip the wrapper off of the batteries and that was a little bit of work, used goo gone to take the sticky off.

u/0_Charisma · 1 pointr/mflb

I was mistaken, I actually got the FG for 25, but still much more appealing than $40 on the official website.

On mobile so sorry for chunky link :(

u/frbap · 3 pointsr/mflb

I fucking hate the tin it comes with. It always gets stuck because the design of the grinder itself is fundamentally flawed.

There's a small lip that traps weed in the grinder. If you give the grinder a smack against a hard surface when you're done using it, you'll find that a not insignificant amount of weed was trapped inside it.

So you place your grinder in the tin, the weed escapes and the tin gets humid, sticky and gummed down.

Which is extra annoying because if you're not at home, you often don't have your other grinder or a place to store this excess weed. So you either have to waste it (rip) or keep it in the tin which causes this.

Do yourself a favour and just buy a cheap coffee grinder and just store the ground weed in a pill bottle or something. Weed that's on the drier side is better to vape anyway so you shouldn't worry too much about using freshly ground stuff like you do when rolling a joint.
