Now if you head over to /r/fountainpens, you'll find some pen nerds the like of which I cannot compare. I do have a collection, though, something like 12 pens and perhaps 15 inks. I have helped people get into them, or at least dabble, on several occasions. I always recommend that people start with a Parker as their starter pen:

https://smile.amazon.com/Parker-Jotter-Fountain-Royal-Medium/dp/B07C1F4W3G

They are cheaper, so you can get in without much worry, and you can use one for a while to figure out what you like or don't like in fountain pens, so that you can later get another pen of your liking. Choose your color--I recommend either a fine or medium point to start (that's how broad/wide the ink trail is). They use pretty standard ink cartridges, so you can buy all sorts of different brands, colors, etc and have fun. It will come with a starter cartridge, so maybe buy a box of them in your favorite color so that you don't run out suddenly:

When you want to start using bottled ink, you'll get one of these converters:

https://smile.amazon.com/PARKER-Fountain-Converter-Standard-S0050300/dp/B00135JVKQ

It will allow you to use any ink from any brand you like, and the world is suddenly your oyster. Have a look, let me know if you have any questions, and happy writing!

I think it's from page 272 or 268.

I used Google Books to find the excerpt. You can read it for "free" if you're an Amazon Prime subscriber. Here's the source:

>Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen (Kindle version) Page 268 of 372 Position 36789 of 4808

>When her hands move to my shirt, I open my eyes. She undoes the buttons slowly, methodically. I watch her, knowing I should stop her. But I can't. I am helpless.

>When my shirt is open she pulls it free of my trousers and looks me in
the eye. She leans forward and brushes her lips past mine—so softly it’s
not even a kiss, merely contact. She pauses for just a second, keeping her
lips so close I can feel her breath on my face. Then she leans in and kisses
me, a gentle kiss, tentative but lingering. The next kiss is stronger still, the
next one even more so, and before I know it I’m kissing back, clutching her
face in both my hands as she runs her fingers over my chest and down my
body. When she reaches for my trousers, I gasp. She pauses, tracing the
outline of my erection.

>She stops. I am reeling, teetering on my knees. Still staring into my eyes,
she takes my hands and brings them to her lips. She presses a kiss into
each palm and then places my hands on her breasts.

>“Touch me, Jacob.”

>I am doomed, finished.

>Her breasts are small and round, like lemons. I cup them, running my
thumbs over them and feeling her nipples contract under the cotton of her
dress. I crush my bruised mouth to hers, running my hands over her rib
cage, her waist, her hips, her thighs—

>When she undoes my trousers and takes me in her hand, I pull away.

>“Please,” I gasp, my voice cracking. “Please. Let me be inside you.”

>Somehow, we make it to the bed. When I finally sink into her, I cry out.

>Afterward, I curl around her like a spoon. We lie in silence until
darkness falls, and then, haltingly, she begins to talk. She slides her feet
between my ankles, plays with my fingertips, and before long the words
are pouring out. She speaks without need or even room for response, so I
simply hold her and stroke her hair. She talks of the pain, grief, and horror
of the past four years; of learning to cope with being the wife of a man so
violent and unpredictable his touch made her skin crawl and of thinking,
until quite recently, that she’d finally managed to do that. And then,
finally, of how my appearance had forced her to realize she hadn’t learned
to cope at all.

>When she finally falls silent, I continue to stroke her, running my hands
gently over her hair, her shoulders, her arms, her hips. Then I start to talk.

>I tell her about my childhood and my mother’s apricot rugelach. I tell her
about starting to go on rounds with my father during my teen years and of
how proud he was when I was accepted into Cornell. I tell her about
Cornell, and Catherine, and how I thought that was love. I tell her about
Old Mr. McPherson running my parents off the side of the bridge, and the
bank taking our home, and how I broke down and ran out of the exam hall
when all the heads lost their faces.

>In the morning, we make love again. This time she takes my hand and
guides my fingers, moving them against her flesh. At first I don’t
understand, but when she trembles and rises to my touch I realize what
she’s showing me and want to cry with joy at the knowledge of it.

>Afterward, she lies nestled against me, her hair tickling my face. I stroke
her lightly, memorizing her body. I want her to melt into me, like butter on
toast. I want to absorb her and walk around for the rest of my days with
her encased in my skin.

>I want.

>I lie motionless, savoring the feeling of her body against mine. I’m afraid
to breathe in case I break the spell.

I think the page numbers correspond with the print version, but I'm not sure what ISBN it's from.

If you're serious about getting into software development, I'd recommend you start looking into data structures and algorithms as well. It's something I think a lot of people who were self-taught tend to miss because it's not required knowledge to program, but it will give you a huge competitive advantage.

While I haven't read it, this book seems like a good introduction to the concept: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/1617292230/?coliid=I34MEOIX2VL8U8&colid=MEZKMZI215ZL&psc=0

From there I'd recommend looking at MIT's Intro to Algorithms, 3rd Edition. A bit more advanced, but the topics in there will play a huge role in getting a job in software.

2. Yes it's unnecessary and excessively showy. But it feels so good in my hand and performs well :)

3. Yes, its a stupid name for a mouse.

4. Yes, I realise your $10 mouse does the same thing. Let me enjoy my damn mouse! :)

I used to buy Loctite. It's pretty decent for what it is, but I don't really like those fancy 'squeeze' bottles, so I started looking around for a different brand to buy from.

This is what I buy now and it works very well. Good value, too. It's usually around $6, not $8, which is the highest I've ever seen it. Sometimes it drops down to $3/$4.

(Hijacking top comment because people keep asking where to find them.)

Amazon has them

Also with a bottle opener

They are much stronger than the normal similar clips so even if you don't need them as tools, they will work better for longer. I've gifted them several times and everyone loves them.

Note: There are no affiliate links and I'm not connected to the product or company, just personally like the product.

buy some glass straws on Amazon! I use mine for smoothies, they work great. No waste, easy to clean.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N00OEJQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Those are the ones I have. $7 is well worth it, they last forever.

This is the shit i say when i look at my phone.

Where can I buy this clock?
It's perfect for my schedule

Edit: Found it! It will be here, uhh.. Tuesday. Right on time!

I tried real butter just the other day on my popcorn and still felt it was missing something. Some people search out that movie theater taste and prefer it to real ingredients.

For those people, beta carotene colored coconut oil, Flavacol salt, and butter topping is all it is. Flavacol has the added benefit of being super finely milled salt, it doesn't have the problem sticking to popcorn like normal salt does.

u/gcdrm · 7 pointsr/mildlyinteresting

Same, though I'm pretty sure I got mine in the early 90s. Would love to see a picture of yours for the nostagia factor.

Not this? https://www.amazon.com/Wallmonkeys-Inhaler-Wall-Decals-FOT-63298300/dp/B0150BAHNI/ref=sr_1_615?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1496614104&sr=1-615. I especially can't figure out how Amazon's algorithm settled on the "Frequently bought together" options for that one. I suspect shenanigans.

There's some weird stuff in that Amazon "Wall Stickers & Murals" category. The juxtapositions are funny too. Just when you're passing through the "normal" inspirational Bible verses and Hello Kitty stickers you come across stuff like this: https://www.amazon.com/Redrum-Shining-Halloween-Wall-Decal/dp/B00OGHYV94/ref=sr_1_434?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1496613789&sr=1-434.

Very interesting!

I’ve used this Vornado travel fan for years. Similar design (but less awesome). My kids love sticking their fingers in the “blades.”

Do yourself a favor, and buy Bob Smith brand super glue. More glue for less money. Also, they sell "un-cure", in the case you glue yourself to your ... self.

u/ink1026 · 3 pointsr/mildlyinteresting

Canadian Amazon has it here, it's kind of pricey though. I've never had a problem shipping from UK Amazon to the US, so maybe you can ship from US Amazon?

Here are some really good prices on Ebay, don't know how much shipping would be for you though.

Only 5.50 usd on Amazon, I really hope nobody actually drives with these things on.

Link if you are interested.

Here's the same art on the paper back versions via Amazon (Prime Eligible).

u/pipnwig · 19 pointsr/mildlyinteresting

It was originally made by Fred & Friends, though. If that type of quirky household item is appealing to you, they should be your go-to.
