Thank you all for your comments. Here is what I ended up with:

I bought a bluetooth transmitter/receiver on Amazon, here:

Mpow Bluetooth Transmitter and Receiver 2-in-1, Bluetooth Transmitter for TV, Wireless Bluetooth Adapter with aptX for CD-Like Voice Enjoyment, Bluetooth Audio Receiver for Car/Home Stereo System https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MMSWY5B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_OpJ3Cb0BH5MKT

I also needed some rechargeable AA batteries and a charger.. I purchased this combo because it was convenient:

EBL AA Rechargeable Batteries 2800mAh (4 Counts) and Smart Batttery Charger - 2 Hours Fully Charged 2A USB Input https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N7MBF3G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_KsJ3CbJYHZP1E

Everything is working great with my BT speaker.. So, it should work just fine with my car stereo tomorrow 🙂

I have like 300 albums on MD and haven't listened to them in years.

ATH-M50x with a FiiO Q5 amp is the best portable sound I've heard and is my go-to for MiniDisc listening. I also use them at home with my NAD reciever for vinyl and MiniDisc deck listening. Sounds great.

However, it's a lot of stuff to carry around for portable listening. I'm swimming in a mess of wires. Also, the M50x sound pretty empty without an amp - I'd never recommend them without one.

IMO Sennheiser headphones sound good without amps - particularly the wired Momentums. The over ear ones are comfortable, offer nice bass (but don't sound good with amps). Because they're cushioned, they're a little bit noise blocking (no active tech though). The wireless ones have noise cancelling which I believe can be used wired as well, but they're super expensive.

I've heard good things about those for the price! I always recommend these to people, in case you ever needed a new pair :)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07B4PDF6K/ref=psdcmw_172541_t1_B00SLVB71Q (1st get is what I use and are like $40 I think)

You're right, I didn't read the description closely enough. What OP needs is something like this, which I actuall ordered a couple years ago and definitely IS a transmitter. Bought it along with a set of Bluetooth headphones. Worked great.

I'm assuming you mean the general gumsticks and not the LIP-4WM which you have to sell organs for to get. There is a thread on rebuilding those on the sony insider forums.

You can get a ultra cheap charger for about 6 bucks from amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XTDSF5V/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And some HRQP batteries for around 12 https://www.amazon.com/HQRP-Battery-1-528-231-11-WM-RX707-WM-FX675/dp/B01LNZMYN6/ref=pd_sbs_23_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01LNZMYN6&pd_rd_r=GD4G8W9BQ65HY804CNTF&pd_rd_w=Dcwkz&pd_rd_wg=OLt43&psc=1&refRID=GD4G8W9BQ65HY804CNTF&dpID=41ZHJJlSUzL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=detail

What I did is break apart the crappy charger (although it seems to work fine but I haven't timed how long it takes to charge) and get some wire tails/clips to connect it to a good charger (I have a very nice Powerex charger that does cycling/refershing and all the works).

It doesn't need to be an exact match - just something that fits into the space. If you search for "lipo" you'll find all of the lithium polymer flat cells. Maybe something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Rechargeable-Lithium-Polymer-Battery/dp/B0798GSY25/ref=sr_1_38?keywords=lithium+lipo&qid=1568247075&s=gateway&sr=8-38

This one has a overcharge/discharge protection circuit built in and you might be able to fit two into the space...

I previously used to keep my amp inside a 19" server cabinet to reduce the dustflow. I noticed that it was heating things up quite a bit though, and I had to install fans to keep things cool.
Any thoughts or recommendations on active hifi cooling systems, for example, this: https://www.amazon.com/AC-Infinity-Top-Exhaust-Receivers-Components/dp/B01LW1Q4X9 ?

I’ve been using this to send MD sweet music to my car’s BT.

Its a transmitter/receiver.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MMSWY5B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_dxe2CbN3WHH2F

It’s not BT 5.0 but does have AptX codec.

Umm, no. Monoprice's stuff are not deserving for MD use. Try a pair of real IEM's like this one.
