Weather Spotter here!

I have this Midland HH54VP2 model and for the most part love it. The slight problem is Midland's batteries aren't the best, so you'll want to keep it charged and may need to order additional batteries. The thing I love about this model is it has Tone, Voice, and Visual alert modes (or all 3). Whenever it goes off in my house, I get a loud tone, the display flashes, and then it immediately tunes in to the Alert broadcast so I hear what it is. It also has a text read-out display so if I am not right by it, I can see what the alert was.

The other one I like is the Cobra CWR 200 Weather and Emergency Alert radio. Cobra has better battery life. This one is nice as it can charge your phone if you needed it. I had one before our move and left it with a friend who didn't have one at all.

I also recommend a desktop WX radio that can be left at home at all times. This way you have one that is on stand-by at home 24x7 and your portable can go with you in the car, hiking, or to work.

You may also find this Weather Station and Portable Alert Radio useful, although I haven't personally used this model.

Some apps, if you're on Android, I highly recommend are Dark Sky, RadarScope, and MyWarn. I also have the Weather Radio app but lately it's only advantage is Text-to-Speech reading of the warning like a Weather Radio, which can suck when you're in a crowded place and don't want your phone talking.

I stumbled upon this while trying to find something on the newspaper. I read a few pages of the sample on the google play store and will probably purchase it. Appears to be a very good source on the topic... much better than my amateur history paper :)

Here's a list I've been meaning to buy/read. I haven't read any of these yet so I can't vouch for their quality. They mostly focus on MPLS and SP too as that's more where my interests lie.

That's most of what I've seen available on Amazon.

EDIT: The Minnesota Historical Society is also a good resource.

Have you tried these? Pretty basic solution, but has worked perfectly for us.

I just bought a top speed class (U3), 128 GB Micro SDXC card on Amazon for $45. It can hold over 2 shifts worth of HD video or 6 hours of 4k video. It's not some crappy Chinese brand either, it's a Samsung Evo which is one of the best cards available in both speed and reliability. Could you imagine how cheap they would be at a volume discount of 1,000 units (800 officers plus a ton of extras available for immediate replacements?

Storage isn't the problem at all. Hell, I have a 64 GB Micro SD card in "security" camera we use for my son's birthday monitor and that's no where near as important as a police body camera.

Edit: As far as battery life with sound, there are body cameras that will record for 12+ hours.. That camera is $600 to buy outright or Taser will give them to the departments for free for a year to get along with the software and support to use and implement them.

one could argue it puts less stress on kidneys needing to flush out impurities.

the softener would just help prolong the life of the filters by reducing the heavy 'crap' before it reaches to the system. its by no means a substitute.

you basically have distilled water on tap at 2 gallons per hour, with my setup.

im just a layman on the subject. but i can absoutly say a ro filters are worth it if you can afford it.

in gallons of water drunk, im easily ahead over 60 dollars in the couple monthes ive had mine installed. filters are paid off for.... still reads at 9 parts per million, by this fall ill be banking money.

not a bad rate of return, less than 6 months.

again, I highly recommend, this is the one i got

*and that the person in original has a well. one can only assume the water is really hard, especially if has a brownish color, rust.

You can often find these locally for cheap. I find the thinsulate ones to be best, you can layer another pair of gloves inside and they work pretty well all winter.

Something I suggest to everyone who asks about cold weather, go to an army surplus store and ask for what’s called a “smoking jacket”. Makes a great base layer, I got issued one when I was in and you can’t beat it.

Or maybe eBay it, either way you’ll love it and it’s probably 30-40 bucks
