So I bought this monitor today. MRSP is $1000, most carry it at $800-$900. I bought it for $670 including shipping from NCIX (it's now back up to $900 but the promo price is still available if you need a link that includes it). It was hella expensive, but I've been wanting one of these monitors for quite a while. I plan on using all that sexy horizontal screen real estate for a ton of productivity purposes. Three word docs side-by-side-by-side? No problem! Need Excel to make A-Z all visible at the same time? Can do! Wanna share SolidWorks or other CAD software with a spec sheet also on the screen? It's perfect for that!

I am a little apprehensive about a couple of things. For one, I could have gotten a curved monitor from Dell for $700. But I'm a bit apprehensive about how the curve with affect straight lines while working in CAD, as well as how backlight bleed would come through. A curved screen sounds super cool, but I don't think a flat screen will be a problem, even though the screen is so wide.

I at least appreciate the thunderbolt ports. It's not 3.0, just 2.0, but I don't even think that matters for me since my MacBook is a couple years old. Also, it has USB quick charge, which will be heavenly I'm sure. I'm excited. The $670 hurt, but I don't have any financial responsibilities to worry about outside of Netflix and Spotify, lol. So I can spend my money any way I please. I'm on pace to make $2800 more this summer, and my financial aid was bumpin, so yayyy go splurging!

But no, really, I'm done spending money for a while.

Easiest place to find all-22 and end zone angles is the coach's film from NFL Gamepass, but it costs a lot of money for the amount of usage you'd get out of it at this point. You can watch the coach's film for any game going back, but it's definitely worth more at the start of the season when you can watch the games after they happen instead of going back and trying to watch all the games at once.

Once you get the coach's film, I think that a good place to start for defensive strategies is Matt Bowen's NFL 101 series on Bleacher Report. Here's his breakdown of how cover 2 man works as an example. Once you go through those, you can start seeing what defensive players are doing and trying to figure out what the general defensive playcall was. You still can't be sure what the playcall was (especially with some hybrid defenses that Zimmer runs or when someone blows a zone), but you can get much more of a feel for what's going on. Coach interviews in season on team websites are also cool. As an example, before Lombardi was fired from the Lions he pointed out in a video on their website that sometimes our blitzer in the double A-gap pressure look is not predetermined. We have a pressure play where both LBs will take a step toward the A gap and read where the center is turning; if the center turns to his left, the LB on his left will drop into coverage and the LB on his right will blitz. If he turns to his right, the LB on his right will drop into cover and the LB on his left will blitz. It's a really cool wrinkle to our defense that I wouldn't have known about otherwise.

On offense, especially for the run game, I like old NFL offensive playbooks. Some, like a few of Norv's actually, will give some good detail on the blocking assignments for the offensive line and the keys the HB is supposed to read. You may have to Google some of the terminology for the types of blocks, but that stuff should be out there.

Can also get the Complete Offensive Line by Rick Trickett if you're really crazy, but it adds limited value. Goes more in depth for what he and his system expect for offensive linemen's footwork and hand placement for various types of blocks, but not all techniques are ubiquitous. The book is aimed more to help learn how to coach offensive line and goes through drills to use in practice, so if you just want to watch tape you can probably skip that book.

For pass offense there's lots of stuff online about various route concepts and what they beat (e.g. how the pin route combination beats cover 4) Once you start watching lots of tapes and get a feel for what defensive schemes are trying to do, why the offense is doing what it is doing becomes more obvious (e.g. read man coverage, motion outside receiver to inside the numbers, CB in man plays with inside leverage, WR runs a quick out with the extra space after the motion for a fairly easy completion).

Another great tool is that Belichick will break down important plays for the Patriots every week and explain the important bits. Probably one of the coolest sources you can get on what's going on in a play right there.

There's lots of stuff out there, but I'm personally hesitant to trust anything that isn't coming from an ex-NFL player or coach. There's a lot of people (myself included) that think they know what is going on but are at best spouting educated guesses or parroting things more informed people have said previously.

Hope that was helpful.

Hey man, I did some research and the mug was bought here. Interestingly enough, the Amazon page shows it with a yellow handle, while mine came with a purple handle (that I like better). There are some other differences too, as you can see from my pictures. Anyhow, the ID number is the exact same, and I think there's a pretty good chance that you'll get the same mug that I got if you buy from that page. Good luck, and I hope it's what you're looking for!

Thursday was my last day. It wasn't the worst thing ever, but goddamn I am so sick of fucking drive thru.

In other news, I'm finally moving to Duluth next Wednesday. I think I'm pretty comfortable with job stuff, but if anybody knows of anything good I'd love to hear about it.

Also, I got some money from amazon for sending in textbooks and I think I'm going to get a new monitor and possibly some speakers for when I'm not using my headphones. After doing a bit of research, I've landed on the AOC G2460PF and Logitech Z323. Anybody familiar with either of those?

Just took on a side project making online training content for computer programmers. It's not exactly Pluralsight, but it's a start.

A coworker (that just published this book) was approached about doing a course on Vue.js. He's like... "I don't know Vue.js, but this guy does" and gave them my contact information.

They asked for a voice sample. I gave them this mortifying video of me giving tips about how to give an Ice Breaker speech for Toastmasters and they somehow liked it and made me an offer.

I'll be doing it late at night, like after 11pm, pretty much every day for the next couple months.

I'm an area director for Toastmasters this year. My term ends on June 30th. I'm taking a step back (my area is awful), but will still be the Speechcraft chair for District 6.

Looks like others have done a great job helping you bone up on current events... but if you want to understand the Vikings (and your girl and her parents and stuff) you really need to go to history class!

Get this book. It's well written and helps you understand and feel the whole history of the team right up to the beginning of the Adrian Peterson era.

Then just watch a game with her and her pops and see what happens when you name-drop 60s-70s era dudes like Alan Page. She'll probably buy YOU the ring.

This works really well for most dust issues. Nothing beats removing keys and deep cleaning though.

You are correct. Unless its an obvious generational talent (even those don't go in the top 3 - see Randy Moss), the players who end up being the best picks in the draft are usually the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th picks at their position. There is an excellent book called Scorecasting that delves into this subject. http://www.amazon.com/Scorecasting-Hidden-Influences-Behind-Sports/dp/0307591808

Echogear from Amazon. I haven’t looked super hard so I don’t know. Just saw that as soon as I opened the box. Thought it was awesome.

Last year I posted some options I was going to try for noise makers right before the Miracle game. The feedback I got was mixed but the feedback at the game was 100% positive. Just know your neighbors. I bought a bunch of these. They are cheap, loud and small. Gave a bunch to my neighbors and everyone used them.
