So far y'all, great responses and feedback!! Thank you! A few statements and then some questions...

Here's what I have purchased or am using so far:

  1. On the lines of rackmount equipment (power conditioner, wireless mics, possible locking drawer)... how do y'all organize these items? I was looking at like a 4U or 6U amp rack, and perhaps putting the mixer on top or inside it, but do y'all have different solutions? Hide everything under the tablecloth?

  2. I have a crewcab truck with a 5'8" bed, so 4' tables seemed ideal, but if I'll have a controller case and a possible rackmount case on the 4' table, that leaves me very little other room. I was thinking about the 4' Adjustable kind because I'm 6'3" and don't necessarily want to be hunched over for hours on end. A fold-in-half 6' table isn't ideal in my mind for strength, but I could be wrong. What do y'all do for table length/width?

    Thanks again y'all!!!

They're probably decent enough, again I would consider RCF. These are within the same range, check around forums to see what folks have been saying about them.

Yeah the DDJ-SX looks pretty solid. For transport, I've been using a RSX hatchback since I've started, even with tall 3-way speakers! I have a 4-ft height adjustable table that folds in half so I just slot it behind one of my seats.

you can always get some stand skirts to class it up a little:

Use white ones and put some uplights inside and it'll look pretty nice too...

I am an owner of two powered Mackie 15" speakers, and when it comes to DJ'ing, they are good for at most 50 - 75 people, and that's it (maybe up to 150 people if you're only doing vocal work like speeches, but that's not the case here).

I recommend these EV 15" Powered Speakers from the ZLX series. The 12" will do wonders, too.

Boy, in that price range I really think you should consider the Chauvet Kinta FX (YouTube video of it in action)

They are in your price range for a single light, $169 on Amazon and are sound-sensitive and cover quite a wide area on the dance floor.

Also, you can add more later and sync them with a DMX cable. The effect with multiples is pretty cool.

Recently bought 2 of these
http://www.amazon.com/Alto-Professional-TS112A-Loudspeaker-Built-In/dp/B005FUWTJU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1417763623&sr=8-2&keywords=alto+12%27+powered+speaker

They've worked really well and BUMP.

I think speakers and your set up are the most important. You are a DJ so sound is your priority. I would buy speakers first, then a good backpack/travel case and bags to help carry your gear around. I used to lug my speakers and laptop and controller around without a proper case and I highly regret it now because I banged up my controller a bit and it required me to take multiple trips from my car and back which gets annoying fast. Other than that it makes you look more professional. Some miscellaneous stuff I carry in my bag are back up cables, a power strip, a 1/8 to 1/4 adaptor for my headdphones, a pair of earbuds in case my headphones break, and a towel which has helped me many times (rain mainly)

Next I would invest in some simple lights and probably a table as well.

Alternatively, a semi-powerful desk fan in front of a fog machine filled with translucent haze fluid works well in a pinch. Directional Honeywell Desk Fan let's you point where things go too.

I want to get something like this as a last resort: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K5CFWN8

I have one of those goal post style stands and I use a less dense version of this power bar. But now that I've just found this one, I'm totally buying this and using it instead as my current one only has 10 outlets. This lets you use shorter power cords to connect to everything, and makes cords a lot easier to manage.

hurry, these just went on sale 2 days ago, I posted it here.https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-MPA40BT-BEHRINGER/dp/B00EMDNLUM/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1542663770&sr=8-20&keywords=behringer+portable+pa

I use it for all my beach and outdoor weddings up to 125 or so guests. For mic, I use this cheap rig and it has never failed me for over a year:

I've been looking at setups myself. I like being able to fade the vocals in and out as needed to help some people out.

Karafun is a subscription service you can look at. All the songs are covers so they aren't exactly the same. You have total control and can fade vocals and backups as needed. I use it on a second monitor on a tripod. It requires an internet connection, or songs can be downloaded in advance. I've had no trouble running from my 4G LTE hotspot.

Behringer has a mixer that claims to cancel vocals in real time. I've never used it since the Karafun setup works for me. Check it out here: Behringer Minimix Mix800 Ultra-Compact Karaoke Machine with Voice Canceller and FX. You'll need to get your own songs with the lyrics timecoded. Virtual DJ can do this.

Echo effects also make singers sound better. You can use the effects processor in your mixer if available.

You should check out Oliver Wang's book on the subject, about the Filipino mobile crews in the Bay Area in the early 80s.

The one that looks the most similar to mine (mine appears to be an off brand version) is this one.
I have had no issues with the height. I am 5'8" and when the table is extended fully my arms are a little less than 90 degrees.

As far as stability, I have had a few scares with people knocking into the table. (Hired for a college house party, far too many people for me to feel comfortable) I ended up running a 4 beads of gaffer tape over the legs at the next similar event and had no further issues with stability. In all of my other more tame settings, I haven't felt the need to tape down the legs of the table.
