The First 20 Years of Monty Python by Howard Johnson is a terrific read by a superfan who was also an occasional extra (he's one of the centurions desperately trying not to laugh in Life of Brian). He knows all the Pythons and interviewed them directly. It's got lots of great pictures and also serves as an episode guide since it touches on details of every production the Pythons ever did. It's also very silly, and used copies are pretty cheap at this point.

Monty Python's Flying Circus: An Utterly Complete, Thoroughly Unillustrated, Absolutely Unauthorized Guide to Possibly All the References from Arthur "Two Sheds" Jackson to Zambesi, Volumes 1 and 2, by Darl Larson is as close as we're going to get, but it's maddeningly organized. Each episode's references are cataloged alphabetically, rather than in the order they occur.
