Went all out with the conspiracy sideboard and even got tokens sleeved. Next step I think I'll get some cheaper full art lands and then think of how to upgrade it with WotS after it gets played a few times.

Definitely cost a bit more than the original target of $100. I think I spent around $200 in total for the cards, lands, and tokens. 95% of which I was able to get in under two weeks from CardSphere. I was almost instantly able to get everything I needed from there for 80% of the index prices. Tokens we're like 30%. Im sure I could have gone even lower if I wanted to wait a little longer. Definitely recommend checking them out.

This is my first real paper collection so I decided a cheap budgetish cube would be a good start to play with friends. I was going to try the Card Kingdom starter cube, but this one just seemed like it was well worth the extra money.

Edit: Case is a Quiver. Fits the 360 card cube, 15 card Conspiracy card sideboard, 80+ tokens, and 35 of each land with dividers almost perfectly. Really wanted to go with the Dex Protection Supreme Game Chest but I couldn't find any colors I liked. Im happy I didn't though. While it definitely looks a lot better, I absolutely love this case. Super easy to transport and the cards don't budge. I really don't have any complaints and it was a fraction of the cost.

Now I'm just waiting on my cubeamajigs to get here.

I seed my cube, so... packs are nice. I used to do like you said, and that's definitely fun, but I also like taking the opportunity to ensure packs are populated in a certain manner (no clumping of "stuff", whether by color, CMC, or whatever). There's still an element of randomness to it, but with some preventative measures taken. For example, there will never be more than one planeswalker in any given pack. I know that, before we start, colors are (more or less) evenly distributed. It's not exactly evenly distributed, but there is enough control that, if you get hosed, it's because of the way people picked and not necessarily because of the pack.

When we're done playing, I ask players to sort the cards by color. Then, later, I seed the packs again. This is also the perfect opportunity to make changes. I actually use one of the cubeamajig packs to hold cards-that-want-to-go-into-the-cube. I will put them in after the next time it is played.

They do take management, though. If you're frequently drafting or traveling with the cube a lot, I could see how someone might feel that the packs are tedious.

I also have a Kamigawa block cube and they are absolutely fantastic for that... because packs are seeded to emulate a normal draft.

I don't think they're necessary, but I like them.

I've also used plastic bags and thought they were neat, too. You get that sense of opening something to start each round. They can be re-used, too, as long as you're gentle with them but then they're also cheap and easy to replace if you're not. Less bulky and easier to manage than cubeamajig but with less of the novelty.

I have a 630 cube, and I'm currently using The Big Black Metal Box made by CardKingPro. They're available on Amazon among other places:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072J3KNKP/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I really like this case. I think it was originally designed to hold Cards Against Humanity cards, but it works really well for MTG cards, and I would assume for other TCG's in general. For size reference, my 630 cube is double sleeved and does not even occupy the entirety of the inner 3 columns of the box. I would definitely have room to spare even if I increased my cube size to 720. The outer 2 columns are wider than then inner columns by a few millimeters - enough such that you can fit standard Ultra Pro or Ultimate Guard style deckboxes in them (which I use to hold my lands and tokens separately). The inner columns are not wide enough to hold deckboxes, but I prefer this such that my cube cards don't shift around appreciably during transport. They are wide enough to comfortably hold things like the Cardamajigs Cubeamajigs packs, if you use them, which are wider than the width of a standard sleeved MTG card by a minuscule amount. The inner lining of the columns are also a velvet-like material, which also helps to keep the contents from moving around while not being abrasive to the cards. The case itself is quite strong and sturdy, although I worry that the handle may snap off one day if I'm too rough with it. I usually just stick the entire case into my (standard sized) backpack for transport anyway, so this is probably a moot point and not really worth worrying about.

In the end, while it may not necessarily be the most aesthetically pleasing way to house your cube, I think that this case is a fantastic practical and affordable solution. If nothing else, I think this is certainly leagues better than then CUB3. I highly recommend it!

Hey bud, I have an innistrad plane cube for drafting thats pretty sweet. I can go over what I did if it helps at all.

I started with only Innistrad, great Draft environment to use as a base. Then I replaced all of the vanilla creatures or unplayables with another card from DKA, AVR, or SOI that fit the same role but had a relevent ability or stats. (Ex. a 2/2 zombie for 1b that had no abilities was replaced by a 2 mana zombie in the same rarity with more relevent abilities)

Right now the cube is about:
50% INN
20% DKA
10% AVR
20% SOI

Im trying to recreate a draft environment so I manueally create packs and put them in team bags (https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pro-Poly-Team-Bags/dp/B00095NR1K) to have them ready for each draft.

The slits for common, uncommon and rares is (5/3/1)
I keep flip cards seperate, the are split (3/2/1)

When I make packs I shuffle all the commons together, then repeat for uncommons, rares, and Flip cards.
Each pack is 9 Commons,3 uncommon, 1 rare, 1 flip card, and 1 land. The land could be any nonbasic land from any Innistrad set, put in for fixing and utility.

Right now my rares can be from any set and are pretty balanced, nothings unbeatable.

I also keep the flip cards in clear hypermattes while drafting and playing, but I have a checklist for each in a black sleave for proxying in the deck.

It is alot of sleaves and the cube fits a normal 2 row. But if you buy bulk, its not too bad. Heres where I got mine (https://www.amazon.com/KMC-Barrier-PERFECT-packs-Total/dp/B00T3Z72Q8/ref=sr_1_2?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1465811659&sr=1-2&keywords=perfect+fits, https://www.amazon.com/KMC-Hyper-Matte-Sleeves-Sheets/dp/B0177K3VU6/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1465811692&sr=1-1&keywords=kmc+hyper+matte+10)

If you have any questions or I wasnt clear just let me know.

Sorry about the formatting in advance!

Personally? I use BCW Mattes. You can get a pack of 500 through amazon from 14-18 dollars. I have never had one of these sleeves break. The fronts are matte, they shuffle well. I've sleeved through easily 15,000 of these sleeves and never once had an issue with miscut or breakage. The price does fluctuate on them through Amazon so I try to buy boxes of them when they are down to the 15 dollar range.

BCW Mattes

For cubing I stick to the blacks. I've tried their other colors for constructed but they are definitely see through. These sleeves are thinner than Dragonshields for sure. I LOVE Dragonshields, but the fact that we have multiple cubes, it was just more economical and I really have been impressed with the BCWs at their price point!

u/porterhousegames · 1 pointr/mtgcube

I used these stickers to change the rarities. They're just big enough to cover the widest M1X core set symbols, but not big enough to cover up anything important. I stickered every card, even the ones whose rarity I didn't change, to make sure the cards were indistinguishable from each other.

They work pretty well, but if I were doing it again, I might try to find similar stickers with thinner paper stock. You can't really tell in a 15 card pack or a 40 card deck, but since the stickers are all aligned and adding additional thickness in the same spot, if I stack all 500+ commons together the right side ends up being noticeably taller than the left. Maybe there are some stickers out there that are just the foil without the paper backing that would work better.

u/kamikageyami · 1 pointr/mtgcube

I have mine double sleeved with these for perfect fit and these for the outer sleeves. Fits perfectly and feels great to shuffle

u/thesidestepkids · 1 pointr/mtgcube

I have never had a dragon shield matte break or even bend on me. Occasionally I'll get light scratching on the clear side, but that's about the worst that happens.

If you double-sleeve, try [perfect fit hards] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HLTUD5Y). I can't personally testify for their quality, but I've heard great things about them for foils.

Finally, make sure you have one of those silica gel packets (ya know, the little white packets that say "do not eat") in your box. They remove moisture from the atmosphere and help keep foils from bending. Make sure to change that out every 3-4 months, depending on what climate you live in.

u/omniczech · 9 pointsr/mtgcube

The KMC 1000 is a great buy. Solid and HUGE. Fits a 540 double sleeved + lands pretty well! You can find it here for cheap.

u/rkho · 1 pointr/mtgcube

Okay, sounds good. If you're open to spending about $15-20, this box is fantastic. It fit a double-sleeved 540 cube plus 225 basic lands snugly. It'll definitely fit 720 single-sleeved just fine, though you may want to pick up a cardboard box for the basic lands.

u/king_whiskey · 3 pointsr/mtgcube

If you're looking for a "deluxe" option, I've really enjoyed a box for wine bottles. There are single and dual-layer ones. The one I've linked holds my 480 cube, 200 lands, and about 100 tokens - all double sleeved, with some extra room for dice and such. One thing I love about cubing is that it's customizable to your own tastes; the aesthetic is important to me, and I get compliments on the box wherever I go.

u/Slurmsmackenzie8 · 5 pointsr/mtgcube

25 of each is safe, 30 is ultra safe. I keep my 430 plus 150 lands, almost 100 tokens, and dice very comfortably in the KMC barrier box. My cube is still in the original I got in 2013 and my others are in them as well.

u/probablymagic · 1 pointr/mtgcube

Cool, thanks. I see Amazon has a wide array of cheaper versions too if folks want to go this route but don’t want to spend $$$$. My big outstanding issue would turn just be weight, but I guess that’s the cost of a sturdy case.

Here’s the cheaper version if people want to see it:

you can even put your clothes in it. Im sure it will fit 4 990ct long boxes as well.

The youtuber "the Professor" reccomends KMC Hyper Matte's and double sleeving with them.

The below links lead to amazon bundles of them at a pretty great price.

I don't have one personally (I also have the supreme game chest and really love it,) you could check out the KMC 1000 card box. In my research, in terms of cost/weight, it seems tricky to beat.

u/DystarPlays · 10 pointsr/mtgcube

Not sure "Why bother?" is a useful answer to a question, you want to do it, so lets figure out a way. The way I see it there are 4 options, each with varying degrees of effect on the actual card.

  • Option 1: Get some sticky dots, these are removable, will likely not cause any long term damage to the card, but will fall off in time -
not a huge problem if they're sleeved and not expensive to replace.

  • Option 2: Do like they do at GPs and use a rubber stamp to mark the cards with ink, bit more messy, more permanent, but could be explained away as a GP stamp if you did come to sell it.

  • Option 3: Sharpie, either a picture, your initials, or a simple dot, could probably clean it off if you needed to, but would definitely damage the card.

  • Option 4: Punch the cards with something like this, definitely the most interesting of the lot, but most damage and not removable.

Simple, affordable, and will protect your cards. Just bought one (I was using a Legendary: Dark City box before it). Definitely feels a lot better carrying it around in that than the cardboard box.

I store my 800 card MTG proxy cube (as thick as double sleeved cards) and carry lands separately in one of the duel deck carriers for when I build another cube so I don't have to sleeve additional basics and just carry them separately to use with every cube I own.

They were made to hold team sets of baseball cards but are great as cube packs

u/MilesExpress999 · 0 pointsr/mtgcube

Thanks for the write-up!! I wanted to ask about the packs you use for sealed boosters - can they be re-zipped if you only have ~15 cards in them? I've been looking for something that can approximate booster packs for my own cube, and these seem promising. (Link for those of you who are also interested.)

u/getsniped · 3 pointsr/mtgcube

I have mine in a KMC box. Rather cheap, sturdy locking, hold sleeved cards well and in general I just wish I had bought more of the boxes.

It may not be as good as the Cube Vault, but may be a good option till that is back on the market.

The best option I've heard of...and this has cropped up often on this sub...are these.

https://www.amazon.com/PM-Company-55999-Banking-Handling/dp/B0006VNVSG?ie=UTF8&ref_=zg_bs_490855011_3

They're money bands. They have a little bit of self-adhesive. An 8 person draft is 24 packs. There are 1000 in a pack, for like...$10.

QuiverTime $40 zipper closed, includes shoulder strap, and fits a 360 cube perfectly.

u/inatube · 1 pointr/mtgcube

This takes several weeks to arrive in the U.S. but is well worth the $20 to hold a double-sleeved 450 with 60ish tokens and 195 lands. I have room for about 45 more cards in there.... http://www.amazon.com/KMC-Card-Box-1000/dp/B0007N7P8K

u/jonhwoods · 3 pointsr/mtgcube

I used to carry cards in a box like this one (Theros Edition). While the shape of it is great, the quality is terrible. The lid isn't secure and the box isn't sturdy, so it only stores bulk on a shelf nowadays.

I now use the KMC Card Barrier Box. It is quite similar, except the cards are secure. It hold at least 600 double sleeved cards.

u/thefathermapple · 2 pointsr/mtgcube

The KMC Card Box is really good. It has my dragon shield matte sleeved 360 Khan's Cube and 300 land for all my other cubes, including a Commander cube. It would be a good fit, but close.

Edit: link.

And for larger cubes, I found this kickass 2-bottle gift box

u/PDespereaux · 1 pointr/mtgcube

I use a Quiver to store and transport my cube. It's just big enough to hold a double sleeved 360 cube with lands and tokens.

If you don't have your cube double sleeved or you carry lands and tokens in a separate case you can probably fit up to 540 in there!

u/Narynan · 1 pointr/mtgcube

Very nice. Very similar to what I do, except I use these. It eliminated the need for tape. Not sure if it is cheaper thought.

You are looking for Ultra Pro Team Bags . I just bought some recently. I haven't drafted with them yet so I can't say if they work well or not. I put a token at the front of each pack so you can't see what the first card is.

I pre-make my packs, it is totally worth it, it speeds up the draft a lot. It gives you the option of doing some construction (like putting 2 of each color in each pack, or a land in every pack, or whatever). It takes a little bit of time, but I just do it while watching TV, it doesn't take a lot of mental power to do.

u/singorpino · 2 pointsr/mtgcube

penny sleeves are those really cheap shitty sleeves you can buy and sometimes they have a slightly larger size which can fit a decent amount of cards.

Card not being expensive is no reason to let them get permantly damaged/warped so they can be identified in a stack.

I haven't treid casette cases, but I have seen it, but I don't know if those were regular sized cases, you could probably look it up online.

You could also try something like money-straps, https://www.amazon.de/MMF-Industries-W%C3%A4hrung-1000-pro-216070e13/dp/B0017D6YNQ/ref=sr_1_2?__mk_nl_NL=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=currency+gurte&qid=1566291807&s=gateway&sr=8-2

u/Rabdar · 1 pointr/mtgcube

I had a cube of 360 cards and 40 of each land. So I ended up getting 6 boxes of Dragon shields.

https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Shield-Matte-Protective-Sleeves/dp/B00WX57O7M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478157459&sr=8-1&keywords=dragon+shield

They are 10.49 a box here on amazon. Each box has 100 sleeves so that gave me enough to sleeve my cube, my lands and had some extras just in case.

u/riotinferno · 2 pointsr/mtgcube

I use these White Currency Bands ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0006VNVSG?pc_redir=1408642543&robot_redir=1 )

I make the packs, wrap each one, then put them back in the carrying box. It's simple, and you still get to "open" packs by tearing the bands.

u/kygr89 · 2 pointsr/mtgcube

I used ultra pro poly team bags. They come in a pack of 100 and can reseal.

I've been using one of these for my vintage/powered cube. I keep the lands separate in a fatpack box
