Edit - Just seen your edit, and I should definitely pay more attention to the body of posts. Enjoy the 580! I'm going to keep this up incase other people might find it useful.

If you're grooming nails or beard I'd say the Micra given its focus on scissors as a primary tool however, due to the extra width from the additional tools, it's a little bulky. Something like the Victorinox Classic SD may be much more manageable size-wise, and it has the benefit of carrying both tweezers and the toothpick, however the scissors may be a little small for beard trimming.

In a similar vein to the Micra, the Squirt PS4 is a little bulky, but has a very usable nail (wood/metal) file, as well as a cracking little knife; unfortunately the scissors tend to have a 'wobble' between the blades, meaning that unless you're paying attention to what you're cutting, you can have a gap between the scissor blades as you're closing the scissors, giving a poor, unclean cut (and giving you a rough nail if you're in the process of clipping). The Classic SD doesn't suffer from this given the scissor blades close flushly.

Looking at the comments, the Victorinox 580 looks like a winner, however (this is pure IIRC) the scissor spring in this may be more susceptible to breaking under heavy torque, over the type in the Victorinox Executive, which also has a couple of other tools. Although the Executive annoyingly has the knife opening toward the keys (however the scissors open away from it, so for your purposes this might not be an issue). A potential solution to this would be to go with the Victorinox Rambler, which has all the benefits of the Classic SD, is a tiny tiny tiny tiny bit thicker, and it comes with the combo tool which includes a magnetised (head) Phillips screwdriver, bottle opener, and wire cutter. That last tool has absolutely nothing to do with beard/nail trimming, but it may be useful in initially lining up screws which you can then drive in with the Skeletool.

I'm in a very similar boat to you and I've just decided to give up on my PS4 because the scissors just piss me off when I'm trying to use them with my left hand. I have a Classic SD which I took out of rotation due to wanting something a little sturdier, but ironically (given the play in the PS4 scissors), I feel like the scissors on that might be better. Because I love Leatherman and primarily find myself using the scissors more than any other tool, I'm giving the Micra a shot, but for tweezers I've just bought an Uncle Bill's seen as I end up dealing with splinters more than anything else..

Chances are it's going to come full circle and I'll end up back at the Classic SD I already own, but half the fun of multitools/EDC is experimenting with what works, and I know I'll have a couple of kickarse tools waiting in the wing if I want to mix it up again. That said, the Rambler does look pretty tempting!

The [Victorinox Swisstool Spirit X](https://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-SwissTool-Spirit-Multi-tool-k tLeather/dp/B0027MSC2M/ref=pd_sbs_468_1/133-7022528-5217954?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0027MSC2M&pd_rd_r=d9fcd87f-332a-11e9-b385-1de323ee2e58&pd_rd_w=V2Hg4&pd_rd_wg=LaQuD&pf_rd_p=588939de-d3f8-42f1-a3d8-d556eae5797d&pf_rd_r=G0WBBQZFWCY1YD32PSNR&psc=1&refRID=G0WBBQZFWCY1YD32PSNR) would be better rust resistance than the Leatherman. It's a little bit softer metal, but much better corrosion resistance. That's the best that I can think of.

Either way, if you're using it in saltwater, you need to be cleaning it after each use. At least rinse it in fresh water (and probably lightly oil it too). Salt water is super harsh for any metal that's not specifically designed for salt resistance (which none of the multitools on the market are). The Swisstool Spirit X is the highest corrosion resistance available in a multitool that I know of.

Little on the smaller/pocket size but a great tool non the less is the leatherman juice. The S2 has a good selection of tools, the blade is uk legal if that bothers you, and there in your price range at about £55

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Leatherman-S2-Purpose-Knife-Orange/dp/B00NHBLZIU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1467055435&sr=8-2&keywords=leatherman+juice

Alternatively theres the leatherman wingman. Its one of the cheaper made leatherman tools but still decent with outside opening tools(blae not UK legal). in your price range.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Leatherman-Wingman-Multi-Tool/dp/B006FMPZPW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467055529&sr=8-1&keywords=leatherman

Or for something more minimal theres the skeletool which is in your price range and a rather cool tool.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Leatherman-830846-Skeletool-Multitool/dp/B000XU9NXW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1467055529&sr=8-5&keywords=leatherman

OR you could pick my fav the rebar. No outside tools but a solid tool with everything you should need.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Leatherman-LTG831560-Rebar-Multi-Tool/dp/B007ERHK3M/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1467055529&sr=8-12&keywords=leatherman

I'd consider something like the Leatherman Wave or Surge. They're quite similar but the surge is larger and has more tools, the wave is pocket friendlier version. 25 year warranty and it's a good reliable warranty they'll fix/replace no matter what you do to it if you manage to break it.
They are both around the $100 dollar mark and are considered to be in the higher echelon of multi-tools, real, hard working useable tools. it's a worthwhile investment for something you'll probably use daily.

I'd also consider buying the Leatherman bit kit. It has a wide selection of flatened lightweight screwdriver bits that will fit the Wave or Surge's bit holder. Between the tool and the bits you can put together/take apart just about anything in a relatively light weight package.

So far it holds up great! As long as you follow the instructions to ensure a strong bond, the clip should hold up with regular use. The clip itself was purchased on Amazon. It's called Nite Ize Hipclip.

Squirt PS4 for the win. I debated the Style or Squirt question endlessly and ended up with the Squirt because it had scissors AND pliers AND knife. I use this tool at least every other day and have never regretted the decision.

Pro-tip: I bought the True Utility TU245 keyring (http://amzn.to/2kd4Hq4) and popped one of the mini carabiners on this knife. It makes using the tool 100% better by being able to both connect it to my keyring (to avoid loss) and to EASILY disconnect it when necessary.

Consider expanding your search to include small bike kits like the one below. It seems like there are a lot of neat little tool kits like that designed for bikes that'll probably fit what you're looking for. There is also the Leatherman Bit Set to consider for the bits, I believe they will work in any 1/4 inch hex bit socket.

In my experience it's better to just buy something like a cheap Victorinox Bantam and keep it clean for food prep, and then you can use your Surge for whatever without having to worry about compromising food safety.

u/Skywalker_9 · 5 pointsr/multitools

Roxon knife scissors thing. Quite impressed with it. Typically carry a single blade knife like this in addition to a MT, this would make a great pairing with a multitool that doesn't have scissors.

The surge scissors can easily cut zip ties if you can slip the blades under the strap.
If you try and cut it from just the tips they hurt after using them more than a few times.
I just needed something that I can apply more leverage on.
If the charge works for you, then the surge would be just fine.
Like I said in the OP, I tried nail clippers but having the blade sideways was just awkward and didn't feel comfortable. I am sure something like this would be better https://www.amazon.com/Fingernail-Toenail-Side-Clipper-Cutter/dp/B00207A6WI/ but I still wanted to ask before buying random things.
