To be more clear when I play in a party I absolutely want to communicate so it's still a must to mute people you don't want to hear. Just nice that when I'm lonewolfing I don't have to try and race the clock to mute everyone in a lobby before the match begins.
Ended up buying the PX-11's because I had a gift card. They are not amazing but for me they are perfect. I went from just having my non-stereo tv speakers on a very low volume to being able to have the sound loud and clear as loud as I want it without distracting the lady or child.
I can use Sitrep Pro effectively and it feels pretty neat to catch someone sneaking up on you. Kinda funny because the very first thing I noticed when I put them on was the sound of the tactical insertion I put down. Just looked at my wife and was "Ohhhh so many pretty sounds to listen". Plus makes all the guns sound badass.
Copied from the other thread: I use the Turtle Beach PX21s for PS3. I wanted a good headset but I didn't want to have to refinance my house to afford it. So $65 was definitely a good investment. I love them. The mic can pick up a cat fart in the other room so you don't really need it a millimeter from your mouth which is nice. The cord it comes with is incredibly long which is also a plus. Sometimes I do wish I had a wireless set but when I bought these last year it just didn't seem worth the money. These are worth every penny I spent.
EDIT: Another thing I love about them is it has a chat volume button on the control box attached to the wire. So when I enter a Ground War lobby I turn it all the way down until I can mute everyone. My ears thank me for it.
I don't know about your budget, but I had the Wireless Stereo headset for the PS3 the official one made by Sony and it worked fantastically for footsteps and directional audio. Granted, I'm not an audiophile like /u/72APTU72E, but it worked great for me so I thought I'd recommend it. I got it for about $90 online and it seems to be just above $100 on Amazon, but maybe you can find a deal somewhere. Happy gaming!
Think I'm going to start using one for MW3.
The people who play on my favorite Black Ops S&D server keep swearing by them and saying how hearing footsteps and whatnot on headsets gives them a huge tactical advantage.
I have a decent Logitech USB headset I bought a while back for WoW and never used. Sound quality is good and it's fairly comfortable. Will post the model when I get home.
EDIT It's this guy, a Logitech ClearChat Pro.
I disagree but respect your opinion. I think that MW3 is the most balanced game to date. It is evident that you know little about this game. What makes you a qualified expert on this subject matter? I am sure you are really good at Black Ops and Halo, but MW3 is a big boys game and not for the Mickey Mouse Club. Stick to games you know like this one:

Prayers are coming your way sir.
it will. particularly with sitrep pro. it's confusing in the beginning but with time you'll start hearing the direction the footsteps come from and on which kind of surface the enemy is trampling on (grass, wood, stone etc.). if nothing at all, it'll warn you someone is just around the corner, so you can take appropriate measures.
i've bought this one and while it's nowhere near top of the range it's really good and has tons of great reviews. it's around $50. i am dreaming however of this one. PS3, 7.1
p.s. good luck getting sitrep pro, now that they've fixed the trophy system glitch.
I've used this for years now on both my PC and PS3. Great sound quality and comfy, better yet it's inexpensive. It's wired though, aside from that, it's a great headset.
I just bought these xp300 and I love them. I need one that was going to be able to hook up to 360 and ps3, see as I play on both.
Completley wireless and a good battery life (12 hours), and awesome sound quality with different settings

On sale right now, only $10 off but better than nothing.

One choice isn't "better" than the other. It depends one what features you deem more important.
Source: I've owned a whole shit of headsets.
-Tip: It looks like you're already upgrading from a top tier headset. Once you get into the surround sound realm (the $120-200 range), most headsets are similar and the differences in sound quality are virtually unnoticeable. Take it from someone who's wasted too much money on all of this.
Well technically they didn't lie to you, they just had higher prices than the prices I checked Normal edition: http://www.amazon.com/Battlefield-3-Playstation/dp/B002I0J82G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346890776&sr=8-1&keywords=battlefield+3+ps3
Premium edition (the one with all the dlc): http://www.amazon.com/Battlefield-3-Premium-Edition-Playstation/dp/B008OQTU6C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1346890776&sr=8-3&keywords=battlefield+3+ps3 <-- note that this version is not out for another 5 days so if you want to save money and can wait 1 week then this is the best choice
I was considering some FPS Freeks because my left thumb stick actually begins to wear out from pressing my thumb down to sprint. Does anyone else have this problem?
Regardless. I think that they could provide more control, but I may get the Gamer Pack (includes the CQC Freek and FPS Freek). This will allow me to use the CQC Freeks if I do not like the height of the FPS Freek.
This will allow me to have better control of the sticks. I am still on the fence whether I should get them or not.
You're new to Xbox, it's going to take time to adjust from your point-n-click accuracy to a brand new device in your hand. Mess around with your sensitivity and find whats comfortable for you. From there just keep playing n playing. I think after that you could graduate to FPS Freeks
Practice practice my friend...
I bought mine off Amazon for like $30 using Amazon Prime.
edit: they apparently increased the price to $37 now.
i have one of these, and highly recommend it. there's a slider to adjust the volume, and another to change the sound/chat balance, so if you're in a lobby with lots of innane chatter, you can quickly and easily turn it off.
Turtle Beach Ear Force PX3. Works with Xbox, PS3, PC, etc.
I use the wireless module with my Xbox and use a spare mini-USB cable to connect it to my PC. It's great.
there are some pretty affordable turtle beaches out there. about $30, not bad.
Quantum of Solace had a map based on Facility that was really fun.
I have 2 PS3s, one wired and one wifi. They both work fine, but there are some issues to keep in mind:
BTW, if you are concerned about wifi in particular, you could always purchase a small 4 or 5-port switch. Connect both consoles to the new switch, then wire the new switch to your old router.
It's still pretty active on PC. I see around 6500 to 7500 during peak hours and it doesn't take long to get games going. TDM, KC and Dom are usually full with players. S&D and Demolition usually have people too.
You can get it cheap on Amazon, but it's a hardcopy. If you want a cheap copy, that's how you get it.
Try getting a $30 Sennheiser or whatever the fuck headset and it will work just as well. Turtle beach/astro is great if you want to look cool but it's bullshit. This one's great.
Had a guy at radioshack help me out with this.
http://www.amazon.com/Male-3-5mm-Stereo-Female-Y-Cable/dp/B000I23TTE/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_1
That's the main component, I also got an extended cable so I needed a male-male connection in addition. The entire set up cost me about 25 bucks. Using a pair of $25 skull candy's and the change was night and day for me.
$19.57 from Amazon, but forewarned that there are a lot of hackers on there.
