Here's an idea: get crafty! With arts and crafts, that is, where you're only limited by your imagination (and money and time too I suppose...)

Buy a generic back pack and decorate it with pins and patches and iron-ons and dangly doo-hickies all that you can make (or order online) yourself! Seriously, it doesn't take much to get one of those button-makers. It'll come in handy later when your little filly gets a bit older and runs for student council, amiright?

You can buy iron-on stuff at almost any large retailer or hobby/crafts store. Try something compatible with your home printer and see how that works.

Patches are a little bit more complicated but still within reach. You can design your own and have them created by companies over the internet. Most of them offer iron-on backing for a little extra, and it doesn't take much to add a little extra stitching for added security. Most of the time all you need is a vector image and those are easy enough to find. Typically you're limited to a 3" x 3" square. Another catch too is you'll probably have to order a half dozen or so, which is okay too if your daughter has friends to share with.

If you're feeling adventurous, try stencil-making! Buy those little blind-bag toys and attach key ring loops on them. Search the internet for toys and trinkets to hang off of the bag. These are all fun creative learning experiences that you can share together. This is also her back pack and it can be a canvass for self-expression. I haven't met a girl yet that didn't want to express herself. Buy her a good quality pack and it'll last a lot longer than any average plastic Wal-Mart bag. It might not be an official product, but when has that been an issue for this community? If you need help, well, that's what we're here for. She can invest a little bit of herself into making it and maybe she'll care about it all that much more (or maybe I'm just being sickeningly optimistic. It's just a back pack after all...)

If I've learned anything from the DIY Channel, it's that all you need is a hot glue gun and a heaping helping of ambition! Good times. Now get out there and make an awesome back pack and report back with pictures!

Thanks so much! I'm glad you appreciated it. I'm not a huge fan of Plato, but I have a deep fondness for The Republic because it's such a complex work. I'm really happy to share! I wish I could point you to a good place to start, but there are so many. I highly recommend A Short History of Philosphy for anyone interested in it. Also, as philosophers go, Plato is mighty accessible; you just have to take your time reading him (taking notes helps, no matter how geeky it is ;-) ). Your right on about the ideas at face value being godawful, though, couldn't pick a better word! If you ever read it, wait till you get to the section on only having the "right" types and kinds of music and poetry...

[](/rtwipride "I thought about making a Twilight cutie mark comment myself, but figured that might be over the top. ::blushes:: Thanks!") Glad you appreciated it! ::Philosophy Brohoof!::

If you have around a $50 budget for a 4 year old, I would suggest a multi-gift deal, like getting some kind of art kit but I'd say the better idea would be some sort of pony themed bag as a base and then you can put other stuff inside it and the bag is a thing the kid can use for a while.

4 year olds are at the phase in their development where they should be drawing more and developing their pattern skills, so maybe some crayons and a bound sketchbook (4 yr olds don't really have the motor skills to rip paper off crayons if they break, so this set is good bc they can still use them easily if it breaks, plus it being in a case will help even if they eventually end up in the kid's bag, plus this is a pretty good brand).

I think a phonics box would also be a great addition for a 4 year old! Also socks are always a must have in the homeless community, so why not some pony themed socks they sell these in every major department store.

If I had a $50 budget for a 4 year old who liked my little ponies that's what I'd get them.

A MLP bag, good crayons, a sketchbook, a phonics case and some socks.

Hope this helps!

I'm going to preface this by saying that you should look on ebay. Sometimes somebody will make a great plushie and put it up on ebay, and it will just not get noticed . This method takes luck, but is probably your only option to get what you are looking at for cheap.

With the exception of very large plushies, cost probably doesn't depend much on size. In fact, as somebody who has made plushies, I would probably ask for more money for a small one, as the real struggle is trying to sew those small curves. The more you can do by machine, the easier it is, and larger = more machine. Some very small plushies circumvent this problem by taking massive shortcuts which they can get away with due to the small size, but these will still be pretty expensive. Here's a great example; cute little plushies of the ponies as fillies, ~$250 a piece.

With more practice and access to an embroidery machine so I don't have to do that manually, I could probably finish a single pony in about 20 hours. Charging $15 an hour (very cheap for skilled labor) ends up at $300, materials being less than 10% of that. That's why they're so expensive, even if they are small; the real cost is time and labor, not materials.

You can buy much cheaper plushies made by retailers. These don't cost anywhere near as much as a handmade plushie because they are mass-produced in a factory, but they also won't have a quality anywhere close to the one you referenced. The 6.5" Aurora Twilight Sparkle is pretty okay, actually. I find all the other official ones to look creepy and low quality.

Baby's first book? Hm. If it's going to be read to the child without them wrecking the paper, I recommend https://www.amazon.com/Chicka-Boom-Board-Book/dp/1442450703 - it has a super pleasant rhythm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPf5Rr1SGi4

For self-paced you really want something indestructible and cleanable, with bright colours and not very many words. Maybe cute animals. Something like https://www.amazon.com/Nontoxic-Education-Activity-Crinkle-Toddler/dp/B076P8C2X4

I use/have used a pretty wide variety of tools for inking, because I put a lot of emphasis on my inking/line work in general. Recently I've opted to simply using a fine tip sharpie pen and a black sharpie marker. This is more economical and easy to find. A slightly more pricey but good alternative I've used is a prismacolor black brush pen. Makes things like line weight (variation in line thickness) a breeze. There's actually a nice 8 pack I found on Amazon that includes the brush pen (as well as other handy pens) that's only $11 plus tax. which you can find here

Nah, she's just been taking a couple Yoga classes lately! She's really nice once you get to know her! Cute smile too!

Just make sure you have PYRANHA Bug Armor Misting Concentrate - Concentrated Insecticide/Mosquito Repellent Solution for Residential, Commercial & Use in Animal & Horse Stable Automatic Spray/Misting Systems on hand. She casually feasts on souls from time to time!

I have never worked with toy modeling/remodeling myself but you could remove the hair, then replace it with doll hair dyed the appropriate color you pick. Hasbo used to have a blank pony, but now I could only find it on amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/My-Little-Pony-Decorate-Figure/dp/B001E3P5F2

As far as recoloring, the acrylic may just peel off, and it could be best to sand it very lightly to make sure it adheres well to the surface, then use some krylon plastic spray paint.

Hope this helps :)

I may remodel this one if I can find it here in town.....

Haven't gotten a chance to read it myself, but if you're a real big fan of Cadance (judging by your username, I assume that you are), it sounds like you need to get ahold of Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell, in which Cadance tells Twilight the story of her foalhood and how she ascended. AFAIK it's the biggest chunk of mostly-canon Cadance background we have.

u/TPishek · 12 pointsr/mylittlepony

The book is called "Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell." You can see a summary on the wiki or in the reviews on that Amazon page.

Some of the Christmas ornaments are pretty good figurines. I have the Pinkie Pie one from Carlton, and I like it even more than the Funko vinyl figurines.

Just in case anyone wants to know where they can buy it, Amazon has it. I learned a few new things about the show that wasn't even mentioned in the show (like the names of the Wonderbolts [one of them is Surprise!] and that the first two episodes were originally going to span across a whole season.) The book is about 1/2 episode recaps, but it gives some great insight on the show (such as why they only redeem a few villains or why the people may enjoy the show.) I'd recommend buying it if you have money to kill.

Oh, and soon, two more books are going to come out.

My Little Pony: The Journal of the Two Sisters: The Official Chronicles of Princesses Celestia and Luna

My Little Pony: The Daring Do Adventure Collection: A Three-Book Boxed Set with Exclusive Figure

u/LegendarySanta · 2 pointsr/mylittlepony

Amazon has a few choices. I personally got this set and I think it’s a fine addition to my collection.

u/Color_blinded · 3 pointsr/mylittlepony

but that's not the first official book. This is. Though I think the book you linked still talks about Cadence being a pegasus.

u/sambaneko · 5 pointsr/mylittlepony

I guess it depends on whether or not you take this book as canon material. It has some backstory on Cadance, explaining that she was previously a pegasus. So, while we still haven't seen an explicit earth pony to alicorn transformation, being a magic-wielding unicorn is apparently not required.

The book also specifically describes alicorns as being a combination of all three pony types.

u/rabidkillercow · 2 pointsr/mylittlepony

Here's the Amazon.com listing for the book set. Holy cow, that font size is big. 624 pages are advertised, but this can't be more than a few thousand words.

u/ShirePony · 3 pointsr/mylittlepony

8 Used from $48.50 24 New from $48.39

How does that work when it was just released today?

u/thecnoNSMB · 3 pointsr/mylittlepony

Also, there's some Daring Do books that have been published. The first 7 books sadly remain fictional, including Sapphire Stone (book 1) and Ring of Destiny (book 5).

u/Aidinthel · 11 pointsr/mylittlepony

The show itself never explains, but according to this book, Cadance was an orphan pegasus found in the forest and raised by an earth pony couple. She defeated an evil unicorn with her love powers and ended up in the same weird other dimension place that Twilight went when she became a princess, so Celestia brought her to Canterlot and adopted her as a niece.
