Good catch with 2.4g vs. bluetooth, I always forget about that.

The biggest differences between each 8bitdo line are aesthetics and features such as rumble, analog sticks, motion controls, triggers and turbo:

  • The SN30 is a base model that only features a d-pad, face buttons and a set of L and R buttons on the top. It resembles a SNES/SFC controller and works over Bluetooth and USB-C.

  • The SN30 Pro takes the SN30 form factor and adds rumble, analog sticks, motion controls, turbo, and a second set of triggers. Still works over Bluetooth and USB-C.

  • The NS30 Pro 2 has all the features of a SN30 Pro controller with a slightly different layout. The second set of shoulder buttons are set inside the first set.

  • The SN30 Pro+ is a SN30 Pro controller in a form factor that adds grips similar to a Sony Dualshock controller. Still works over Bluetooth and USB-C.

    Features

It all boils down to what features you want. The SN30 is a great replacement for a stock SNES/NES controller and is about $10 US cheaper than the other models. The Pro and Pro+ will also work great with the NES Classic, and will allow you to play PS1 games that require analog sticks.

    Aesthetics

8bitdo has a number of color variants for each of their lines that have no effect on how the controllers operate. The SN30 GP line are a set of SN30 controllers stylized like the original Game Boy Pocket line. There's no functional difference between a SN30 and SN30 GP controller other than how it looks. The SN30 Pro line has two options: One that matches the original Game Boy and another that looks like a U.S. Super Nintendo controller.

And there's the newer NS30 Pro2, which has an NES option that should match well with the NES Classic.

    ---

For me, I like the SN30 Pro because it's a good compromise with the SNES controller form factor combined with modern features. The triggers aren't great for modern games, so I only really use my SN30 Pro for emulators and retro-style games.

I already own a set of Dualshock 4 controllers, so I didn't see a need to have grips on my 8bitdo controller. But if I were using an 8bitdo controller as my daily controller, I would strongly consider getting the SN30 Pro+ for the added grips.

8bitdo doesn't do a great job at describing the differences between each of their controller lines. Some sort of feature grid would be extremely helpful.

I have the controller that came with the NES Classic, but I use the two original NES controllers I have had since I was a child with Hyperkin's converters (https://www.amazon.com/Hyperkin-Controller-Classic-Nintendo-Entertainment-System/dp/B01N3LNI3Q) that work perfectly.

On a side note, I've yet to attempt to play or transfer Stadium Events/World Class Track Meet to the NES Classic in order to see if the Power Pad I own works or not. I'm actually not even sure if the Power Pad itself is in actual working condition, but if it in fact is and does work with these converters I'll be sure to let people know.

It can definitely be done. Just a matter of finding a powered USB OTG cable.

Something along the lines of this:

https://www.amazon.ca/Importer520-Micro-Cable-Power-Galaxy/dp/B00CXAC1ZW

Hardware wise, connecting usb storage while charging is easy. Getting the software to play nice is a different task.

or you could've just copied the list here...

OTG Adapters for the NES/SNES Classic: Inateck:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OCBXIY8
Note: Only the USB 2.0 version is compatible with the NES/SNES Classic out of the box. You would need an adapter for the USB-C version to connect to the NESC/SNESC, and whether it actually would work is currently unknown.

Also, be aware that it uses its own power cable instead of the NES/SNES Classic's USB cable, and it is very short (roughly 12-14 inches long).Consider getting an extension USB cable or using an extension cord.

TUSITA ("octopus" style): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LTHBCNM
This one has been reported as working for many people, but can also reportedly break easily.

Simpler OTGs:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FY9Z9GD
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JCZ2FQQ
OTGs like these have only one port for USB. A simple choice if you only want to use USB and not wifi...or vice versa.

We do not recommend the small angled adapter featured on snesclassicmods.com and elsewhere. It looks great, but easily loses data connection at the slightest nudge.

The powerpad could work since it is just a giant controller, ROB however will never work on a modern TV, like the zapper. This is your best bet; https://www.amazon.com/Fighters-Controller-Classic-nintendo-wii-u/dp/B01MTW4ROU reviews online and on YouTube are pretty good. $15 is also a good price, I think.

I appreciate the response. There are a couple wireless options out there that look similar to the NES Classic controller that have the home button, but I'm not sure I want to go down the wireless route, I've read mixed reviews. There is also a wired version coming out at the end of February that looks promising (https://www.amazon.com/My-Arcade-GamePad-Retro-Classic-Controller/dp/B01M5IH8K5/), but I was hoping for something in the mean time.

My guess would be getting a new sd card. The size isn't the problem, but the speed probably is. Look for the circle with a number inside it on the card.

See this chart to see what I'm talking about On top of that, if the card is old and has been used often it may have degraded and not perform as well.

I'd look for at least class 10/UHC1. UHC 3 would probably meet any demands you'd ever need for your SNES. They also have A1 and A2 classes meant for Android phones, but they'd work just as well for your use.

SD cards are super cheap nowadays, and you'll get way more memory with more performance out of it, for a fraction of what you paid for that one I bet.

This one is 16GB A1 for $6…!

I've been looking into this the last few days. It seems the Japanese Famicom controllers are at least 60 bucks on ebay. While it would be cool to have, that is little pricy. Plus if i wanted 2 it would be $120 or more. On top of that you have to wait for them to ship from japan. I think the prices may go up if more people are looking for them.

I may just end up getting this adapter and finding 2 OEM SNES controllers cheap on ebay.

My other option is buying the 8Bitdo NES30 with retro receiver and getting the SNES30 as well (http://www.8bitdo.com/). I've wanted wireless controllers and RetroArch may just push me to bite the bullet. I'm kinda waiting to hear how RetroArch goes and if there are issues using a SNES controller with Sega Games.

I have not tried with a classic controller as I cant locate mine. I am playing SNES games (only games I care about) with a My Arcade Gamepad Pro.

> huh, I️ wonder why.

Because they've got new models coming in February 2018 to coincide with the Analogue Super NT.

Hyperkin cheaped out by not up-volting. What a shame. But you may be onto something. This adapter could be upvolting to 5. The old version w-005 worked with the NES advantage and capcom power stick. People are saying this in the reviews on amazon:

I bought this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M34DLXD

And it works with retroArch, but the shoulder buttons don't seem to be working in games like Mario Cart. Any ideas?
