Wiis, or Wii Us? I'm going to assume Wii, but if you mean Wii U, I can also help. I also don't know exactly how these Wiis will be used. Are they meant to be used in a clubhouse-like setting, or will they be taken from place to place for one kid to play at a time?
If you bought Wiis, you would more than likely be being used. You could check a local Gamestop to see if they're selling them used, but they may not. Like, I know my local Gamestop only sells PS3s and 360s used. If they don't have Wiis, you can definitely buy off of eBay or Amazon. I suggest you try to get controllers bundled with the console wherever you get them, because buying controllers on their own are like $20, $50 if you want a Motionplus (which is just an extension that improves the controller) The advantage of buying a Wii over a Wii U would be you would have a lot of money left over for games, since the console itself is more inexpensive, and the games are cheaper.
Although it's an older console, the Wii still has plenty of great games. [Mario Kart Wii] (http://www.amazon.com/Mario-Kart-Wii-Wheel-Nintendo/dp/B000XJNTNS) is a really fun one, and if you just buy the game (I never liked the wheel) it's pretty cheap. [Mario Party 8] (http://www.amazon.com/Mario-Party-8-nintendo-wii/dp/B000LSJKAM/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1415812236&sr=1-1&keywords=mario+party+8) is a MUST have, and is probably the best party game on the system. Huge replay value, and it's not too difficult for kids. [Super Mario Galaxy] (http://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-Galaxy-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B000FQ9QVI/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1415812294&sr=1-2&keywords=super+mario+galaxy) is widely regarded as one of the best video games period. It's only 2 player, though, so it might not be best for your situation. [New Super Mario Bros. Wii] (http://www.amazon.com/New-Super-Mario-Bros-Wii-Nintendo/dp/B002BRZ9G0/ref=pd_sim_vg_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=160GWY5DR8453EPHDZFW) is a really fun game, and is great for co-op play. Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are VERY good games, both very versatile. They're easy to pick up, and can be played alone or with friends. Most Wiis came with Wii Sports, so you can pick it up for really cheap. Wii Party I've found is pretty popular with kids, although it's not the best party game on the system. My younger sister loves Wii Play, but I don't see how it could appeal to kids. It has 9 minigames that are all pretty different, but they're not spectacular. Just Dance is a great game to get, but a lot of kids are sometimes too embarrassed to ever play it. The Lego games are GREAT, and even though they're only two player, I think they're way to fun to leave out. They're good for kids, adults, teens, whatever. My personal favorite is the Lego Star Wars Saga, but there are plenty of other Lego games if you don't like that one. Kirby's Epic Yarn could be fun for kids, because I know Kirby is a really popular character for the younger ones. I may be wrong, but I think (?) it supports co-op mode. For the older kids, Super Smash Bros Brawl is the absolute BEST choice. My local YMCA used to have a Wii and only Super Smash Bros Brawl, and it was all that the middle/high school aged kids used to play.
With a Wii, you can also play Gamecube games. Similar to the Wii, it has Mario Kart games, Mario Party games, and Super Smash Bros. You have to buy a Gamecube controller, though, obviously.
In terms of educational games, the only one I can think of that was major for the system is Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree. I personally had a lot of fun with it, and it's challenging for older kids while still being accessible for younger ones.
In terms of accessories, I suggest nunchuks and classic controllers. Nunchuks are required for a lot of games, and classic controllers can either be used as an alternate controller or to control Wii Shop games. The Wii Shop is where you can download old games, like the original Super Mario Bros. The classic controller is required to play those games. As I mentioned before, the Motion Plus is also helpful, and required for some games, like Wii Sports Resort. It's basically just an upgrade to the Wii that is attached to the bottom. If you buy Wii Fit (which I didn't suggest, since it's pretty much one player) you will need to buy a Balance Board.
With all of the games, you're probably going to be buying used, just because new Wii games are almost always very expensive. Used games for Wii can vary from expensive to cheap, and I can't imagine you'd come very close to $950 with everything I just mentioned. So with whatever you have left, visit a Gamestop, which have extensive Wii collections, and grab whatever game catches your eye. Games like Deca Sports and 30 Great Games are fun games that I own that went under the radar.
If you were a virgin on both consoles, I would say 3DS just for simplicity sake; but since you already own a 3DS, I think the wii is a good choice.
Just like Dominic4523 said, make sure it is one of the backwards compatible models if you plan to play gamecube games.
Also, you need to know that you will need a lot of stuff to fully enjoy what the wii has to offer.
You need a wiimote + nunchuck for most wii games. Some will only need the wiimote, but most will need you to have both, for every player too.
If you plan to play gamecube games, you'll need a gamecube controller and a gamecube memory card to save your progress. Those games are not playable with the wiimote.
Last, if you plan to get virtual console games, you'll need a classic controller model 1 or model 2; and also, the wii shop channel will not be selling points starting next Monday March 26th, so you'll have to check the store asap for potential purchases.
If after knowing all that you still want a wii, go for it, but it is definitely way easier to just got a new 3DS.
I snagged the Ocarina of Time one myself, but Best Buy is SO slow about shipping. They told me it would arrive on release day (2nd), but that was a lie. It's still sitting as "label created" according to UPS. I'm super excited about it though. I've already got this nifty stand as an early Christmas gift just for this amiibo. I really want to get a triforce stand of some sort for my three SSB LoZ amiibo. Still not sure what I want to do with Wolf Link, though. (Zelda amiibo are the only ones I collect, lol, and I don't even collect all of them.)
>I mean... my landlord will kick me out using police reinforcement if I don't pay my bills, so...
That is a terrible analogy. Your landlord can make money by renting to someone else. This isn't the same with cloud storage -- at least, a company like Nintendo should not be running out of space and selling to the highest bidder.
Consumer grade hardware is $100 for a 4 TB drive. Industrial grade, we'll go with $1000. Have 49 backups for all I care. $50,000 in hardware expenses. That is covered from the sale of 1,250 games. Games. One thousand, two hundred fifty games.
>You then disappear without ever talking to them for several years without warning or paying them and then coming back expecting them to not have thrown it out "because you were friends ten years ago."
Another terrible analogy. Digital and physical world don't parallel very well.
Somehow Google is just fine holding onto my 10 year old gmail account that I log into once every four years. Why not Nintendo?
Edit: Have some copypasta from over 3 years ago. The prices have gotten even cheaper:
Edit 2: Haha, this copypasta doesn't even use the right math. That 7 million accounts should be 10 million in 7 TB (and same to small denominations). So it's even more of a ripoff than I erroneously calculated.
Edit 3: Revised the math.
https://www.reddit.com/r/nintendo/comments/3dxtvv/whats_your_most_unpopular_opinion_about_nintendo/ctabc0v
The PokeBank (not sure if this is more Game Freak or more Nintendo) is a huge rip off. It is 100,000% more expensive than any cloud storage software and there is absolutely no reason except millions of dollars in pure profit to make it an annual fee instead of a one-time purchase. The storage space any individual account will ever take up is <700 kilobytes. For the record, you could put 10 accounts on 7 MB,
700010000 accounts on 7 GB, and710 million accounts on 7 TB. And looking on Amazon: 4 TB Hard Drive for $110 http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expansion-Desktop-External-STEB4000100/dp/B00TKFEE8K/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1437436355&sr=1-3&keywords=terabyte+harddrive&refinements=p_n_feature_two_browse-bin%3A7817230011So, they can literally pay <$250 worth of storage space for
710 million subscriptions ($5/year --$35$50 million/year). OK, let's have some redundancy in place though! Got to have backups! Let's have 3 backups, so we're looking at spending $1000 out of$35$50 million. But, oh you say, electricity and internet costs for running these 24/7? This I don't have nice pricing on, but I cannot imagine it goes to more than $1 million/year. Reddit uses the Reddit Gold feature to pay for server costs. $4 of gold supposedly pays for 231.26 minutes of server time -- That's ~4 hours. Do we need more than 5 servers for Bank? Eh, sure, we'll say 50 servers because lumping the numbers in Nintendo/Game Freak's favor is always good to making this argument.
So, it costs about $25/day (24 hours/~4 hours = 6; 6 * $4 = $24) per server. It'll be $1250/day with 50 servers. 365 days to a year: $456,250 per year in server costs.
Now, of course, you pay the one guy who does daily diagnostics on these servers and maintenances a great salary because this is a huge money making operation. Let's give him another $500,000/year.
So, our annual expenses are almost $1,000,000/year. Let's pay the difference to the person who coded Bank and Transporter in a week's time (I'd say this is an accurate estimate for how rudimentary and shoddy both softwares are, including the back-end). And at just
710 million customers, they make $35,000,00050,000,000/year.Do they really need to be making
3400%4900% profit on this? What you shouldn't do: Order one of these. For $14 more you can get something dramatically better.
What you SHOULD buy, is this. Don't believe me? Take it from him.

You can get it styled like an American SNES, a Famicom, or even in that 'game boy purple' with those color buttons, and you can get it with or without dual analogs. They've even got cheaper wired ones that are only like $25 but you miss out on motion controls & rumble.

I own the one I linked. I use it as my "at home" controller exclusively, the only time joycons come out is for Pokemon or any of the party games like Mario Party, Smash, whatever else. Yeah we're casual heathens, we play smash with sideways joycons. Nobody's any good so it doesn't matter.
We'll I'll be getting a SanDisk Ultra 200GB Micro SD which is going for $69.95. A 256GB micro SD is too much right now. I considered getting a 128GB to have even more, but per GB the 200 comes out to be about the same so I figured why not get a little more.
I'm also planning on getting the Nintendo Switch Hybrid Cover. I could just buy a case to protect my screen, but this seems like it will be good for standing up my Switch at angles the kickstand doesn't
I'll be getting a USB-c cable for charging as well, but I'm might shop around a little still. The one you have picked out there looks pretty good though.
I'll probably buy a carrying case too, but I haven't settled on one yet. I might hold off a while, but I'll probably buy a second pair of Joycons, and a Pro controller too. Of course I'll have to get either a charging girp, or charging stand for that extra pair of Joycons when I get it too.
There hasa been a confirmed list of the 17 games:
9, Mario Bros.
from the amazon uk listing
For The Legend of Zelda, there's (as others have said) "Hyrule Historia". There's also a book called "Legends of Localization" that details the localization process of the original Legend of Zelda from Japanese to English:
http://www.fangamer.com/products/legends-of-localization-zelda-book
If you're into manga, there's a whole set of Zelda mangas:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/mobile/p/the-legend-of-zelda-box-set-akira-himekawa/1104178239/2683774677098?st=PLA&sid=BNB_DRS_Marketplace+Shopping+greatbookprices_00000000&2sid=Google_&sourceId=PLGoP24049&k_clickid=3x24049
There's also "Legend Of the Hero" by Kari Fry, which is essentially a field journal of sorts about the Legend of Zelda franchise, with some gorgeous artwork:
http://www.fangamer.com/products/legend-of-the-hero
Kari Fry has also made similar things for Pokemon and Animal Crossing, titled "The Field Guide to Kanto" and "A Guide to Village Life", respectively found here:
http://www.fangamer.com/products/kanto-field-guide
And here:
http://www.fangamer.com/products/a-guide-to-village-life
Another fun title is "Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America", which is about the history of Nintendo of a company (although you could probably find all of the information online, it's definitely a nice book to have on the shelf), and you can grab that one on Amazon here:
http://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-Nintendo-Conquered-America/dp/1591845637
Those are all of the ones I know about, but I'm sure there are more out there!
Wow! Both the original post and the comments are really thorough. I have to confess a lot of this is over my head.
I have a question: is it safe to use a 3rd-party converter with an official Nintendo AC adapter?
For example:
I'm hoping the converter simply acts as a pass-through, and that the power adapter works as it should.
EDIT: I hope links to Amazon are allowed. Apologies if they aren't. I wanted to make sure I identified the products I own.
This bag looks pretty awesome. It comes with a Case to protect the Switch as well as the entire carrying bag. So far this would be my favorite of the choices.

Probably the best video tutorial for joy-con replacement repairs is the Jerryrigeverything video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3TeP1G5lO0
If you want to replace the triggers yourself, you're lucky the left one broke. The ZL and L button are connected via a ribbon cable, where on the right joy-con, the R button is part of the board.
Replacement ZL button is here: https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Button-Ribbon-Nintendo-Controller/dp/B078RQNTG6/ref=pd_cp_147_2?pd_rd_w=QQxkQ&pf_rd_p=ef4dc990-a9ca-4945-ae0b-f8d549198ed6&pf_rd_r=JHAQFWG09SK0KNSYMXAK&pd_rd_r=dc8f3529-9f55-11e9-88ad-d7548475fca0&pd_rd_wg=SmpUv&pd_rd_i=B078RQNTG6&psc=1&refRID=JHAQFWG09SK0KNSYMXAK
Replacement L button is here (minus button is part of the same ribbon cable): https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Button-Ribbon-Nintendo-Controller/dp/B078RQFNMN/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1RC1W7Z2NFK0I&keywords=l+button+joycon+replacement&qid=1562352696&s=electronics&sprefix=l+button+%2Celectronics%2C142&sr=1-2
If you need tools for it, here's the best tri-wing and phillips head screwdrivers (The black and solid orange ones came with shell replacements I had gotten and they're my go-to for opening joy-cons): https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Button-Ribbon-Nintendo-Controller/dp/B078RQFNMN/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1RC1W7Z2NFK0I&keywords=l+button+joycon+replacement&qid=1562352696&s=electronics&sprefix=l+button+%2Celectronics%2C142&sr=1-2
I couldn't find anywhere to get just a left joy-con shell replacement, unless you wanted a clear shell.
>I'm not really sure how to feel about this. On one hand, it's great that they aren't charging $60 for it, but I find it difficult to justify buying a remake that looks set to add very little to the experience.
This game wasn't made for you. I'm serious.
It was made for Nintendo to make some easy money off of the demographic that never played Wind Waker and possibly those who simply want to re-play it in HD. It was a brilliant move on their part too since there are probably lots of people who never played it or might simply like to own it on a modern console and get that damn gamecube out of their living room already. And I'm sure they devoted relatively few resources to the project allowing them to stall for more releases coming.
And I don't even want to hear about price. Disc only used copies of the GC game sell for $40 + shipping right now on Amazon.
Game Over is pretty much the definitive work. The early chapters talk about all the before stuff. I don't think you get to Donkey Kong for a while. It goes into a few different ventures that Yamauchi was trying. Including a light gun shooting gallery and love hotels.
Super Mario is pretty good as well. It covers a lot of the same events.
[Play Value(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ge1UzO2AQc) did an episode on it. It's pretty light and lacks the details, but it could whet your interest.
Raspberry Pi is super simple to set up, plus you can get a nifty case to make it look like an NES or a SNES, and there are even USB Adapters that let you use your original controllers (or pick some up on ebay). 10/10 would absolutely recommend as long as Nintendo refuses to make enough stock to meet demand.
I mean I'm talking about this. Not the WiiU Fightpad
For the release of Super Smash 4 WiiU they released the adapter, and started reproducing the original GCN controllers, only with a different face plate with the Smash logo inside of saying "Nintendo". The wire is also like 8 feet instead of the 4ft the original had.
I use a Hori clear duraflexi NN3DS case with my Majora's Mask 3DS, and I keep it in Hori's retro Zelda zipper case. The duraflexi slips on and off real easy and cleans really easy, and it shows off the MM paint job really well. I also got a Hori screen protector, and if it gets scratched too much I just replace it; doesn't leave any residue. Hori makes good shit.
Duraflexi:

Any idea how safe the pre-orders are once you've got them in? I got my confirmation email already, just not sure if I should still follow through with my plan to go to gamestop when the open to order it in store, or if I'm safe to not have it get canceled at this point? (ordered less than 5 minutes after this post went up)
Also anyone know what's up ewith the BotW special/Master editions? They say switch but are listed under Wii U category, and say their release dates are the 13th rather than the 3rd. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N224U9S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Got both the regular and special edition pre-ordered now just to be safe, but it's a bit confusing.
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE.
I just bought the same one (except the original XL one). It has a great feel to it, and you can find ones with great designs on it. It's made of silicone, and is soft and flexible, but it keeps its shape. It doesn't add too much bulk to the device, but it seems protective enough.
10/10 would buy again.
The blue and white one? Me too! That case is gorgeous =)
Edit: This is the one I meant
I was about to link this as well - 100% guaranteed to be better than what Nintendo is selling. It’s the only controller I use these days.
EDIT: I should note that the version I have is the SF30 Pro because I prefer the more classic SNES controller feel but also the look of the Super Famicom colorful controller buttons over the dull medicinal purple colors of the SN30 Pro that looks more like a classic SNES controller.
Best buy should be available day of. Sometimes they have midnight events as well.
There are a few options for stand alone cases too though, take a look...

Just get the new line Nintendo makes for wiiu smash brothers:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00O9GW8VK/ref=pd_aw_sim_63_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=518Z8rDdJEL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL100_SR100%2C100_&psc=1&refRID=E3MVMS7BVGYGRVR6KBK6
They are 100% identical to the original gamecube controller except they have the smash decal. I just played mario party 6 using one of these last night. 23 bucks is hard to beat as well.

Best stylus, plus a good set up for your Link Amiibo if you have one.
I'll give a different opinion. I got mine, the plastic felt cheap and the plastic on the sides had some "give". I didn't think that was that comfortable, so I caved and bought a 3ds xl. If you don't think the xl is very comfortable, try this - http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008ZXBYJU?pc_redir=1411971363&robot_redir=1 you will after slapping it on.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl! - the Subspace Emissary mode is an awesome platform-ish adventure campaign.
How comfortable is an SNES controller? I'm interested in this new SNES-style pro controller from 8bitdo, and it's enticing with it being $20 less than the official Pro controller, plus the added portablility with it being so thin.
I have the SNES 8bitdo wireless controllers and I can say with certainty that they are really well made.
For a slightly cheaper wired option the Buffalo SNES USB controller is good too
Would this Micro Sd Card be a good one for the switch?
Thanks.
I read the book Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America earlier this year. It's not just Mario, either - it goes through the entire history of Nintendo and it's rivals. A pretty good read.
If you aren't sure about the galaxy, you might want to consider getting a plainer new 3ds XL and decorating it a bit. There are some cool Pokemon-themed decals and cases and things that work well with the plain black or red. Lots of them if you look around on Amazon and Etsy. Just an example: https://www.amazon.com/Pikachu-Premium-Protector-Nintendo-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01GVOFIPK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473179371&sr=8-1&keywords=pikachu+3ds+case
You'll need the Wii Remote anyway (the Wii U's Pro controller doesn't work for Wii games either). This is the controller I was talking about that you'd need for the VC games.
Personally, I'd recommend you get all 3 (Wiimote, Nunchuck, and Classic Controller), but if you can't then the one you get will depend on which games you'd rather play.
This is highly recommended among the rpi community. I personally own one and really like it.

Did you buy the Switch new? Looked up a couple things and it definitely should be same as the US version from what I’m seeing. Here is a link to the charger with pics on Amazon that should have came in the box. https://www.amazon.ca/Nintendo-HACAADHGA-Switch-AC-Adapter/dp/B01N7RUZ49/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=switch+charger&qid=1562165324&s=gateway&sr=8-3
>Unless you want it to display on your shelf there's no reason to buy one of these.

I dunno... I'd swap from the clear case my PiTendo currently has if I didn't think it looked neat "naked" as it is.
I just ordered the special edition on Amazon and am happy about that, but I'm confused. The page says Wii U, but then checkout says Nintendo Switch. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N224U9S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm cool if it really is the Switch version.
Yes, but designed specifically for the Switch with a separate hard shell case and space for the dock, cables, etc. Something like what we're seeing in this old ad.

Just nabbed the special edition on Amazon. It says March 13, hopefully they adjust it and get it out on time though.
Worth mentioning is that "Playing with Power" is MUCH cheaper on Amazon than on Gamestop
They're available pretty much anywhere game accessories are sold. Found one at Walmart myself. Here it is on Amazon.

I bought this one. It's worked pretty well for me so far. Only thing is I accidentally bent the bottom tab and it snapped off but as long as you don't force it your fine.
Careful, those are probably knock-off, and might be bad quality. For the best experience, I'd stick with Nintendo (though used should be fine too, as long as it's first party).

Wait, did he say you can play while charging with the included AC adapter? Does that mean I don't have to buy one of these?

Hm good to know. This is the one I was planning on picking up https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00V62XBQQ/ref=aw_wl_ov_dp_1_1?colid=2NF35N1CYE22D&coliid=I3FQ0HS4MI5UQ1
I really like this. It reminds me of an old gameboy messenger bag I stole from my dad
It's this one. For me, I don't like the outside, it looks like it'll get dirty fast, the rest of it looks sweet.

Amazon has one for $120: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Super-Smash-Classic-Gamecube-Controller/dp/B00O9GW8VK/
I have the Fire Emblem: Fates N3DSXL, and I think it's beautiful. I had the same concerns as you, so I purchased the Hori TPU case for it. I've been using it since launch, and it's still in perfect condition. I carry it with me everywhere in my laptop bag, it's been on countless flights and business trips, and the TPU case keeps it pristine. The only exposed point while in sleep mode is the hinge, but that's remained in near mint condition. My only complaint with it is the TPU isn't colorless, so it changes my console from white to off-white, but that's a minor complaint. I'd recommend going this route before you buy a second 3ds.
Special edition still up for those that missed the ME. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N224U9S/
i recently found a cheap NES Mini and consider getting a guide since i don't have the time to re-learn and find everything again.
i found these 2 guides
'Playing With Power: Nintendo NES Classics' - https://www.amazon.com/Playing-Power-Nintendo-NES-Classics/dp/074401767X/
'NES Classic: The Ultimate Guide: Tips, tricks and strategies to all 30 games' - https://www.amazon.com/NES-Classic-Ultimate-tricks-strategies/dp/1540331814

There is this.
Mainly Kirby Star Allies and Super Mario Odyssey because I got this third-party pro controller. it rocks
Remember 200 GB cards are only $70

Fortunately Nintendo released these along with Smash Bros for Wii U.
I bought these

I reckon the 200GB SanDisk Ultra is more dense.
The Nintendo Switch branded Micro SD cards aren't even that fast. https://assets.pcmag.com/media/images/531257-nintendo-switch-branded-micro-sd-cards.jpg?thumb=y&width=810&height=456

I beleive that the Sheikah case is excusive to the SP & ME. There's always the Link's Tunic starter kit in case the others sell out.

Sadly not the master edition but still something
Huh... Your Google must be broken. Let me see what my Google brings up.
I know me too! Literally AS SOON as I saw the Joy-Cons in the Switch reveal trailer, I was thinking about all the different types of controllers they could do! I mean, with the Wii remote, it had that port on the bottom for the Nunchuck, but then later they had the Motion Plus, the classic controller, etc. Imagine that, but on a whole new level! Although (as you said) XL joy-cons would be dumb, more multiple reasons, including that it would look weird on the Switch, and there are bigger buttons on the Pro Controller. If you want a Snes controller with a D-Pad one just get this https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG
