I had the pleasure of meeting Dav Pilkey, creator of Captain Underpants, as a reward for winning a Young Authors contest in elementry school back in '87 or '88. At that time either he had just written and won an award as a teenage author/illustrator for World War Won. Captain Underpants was still a long ways off but I remember him mentioning he was developing it and we all giggled about it as 7 year olds would.

I still have an autographed copy of the book around here somewhere. I loved reading it and 20 years after I first read it, I got to read it to my kids. It got them interested in him and they loved the Captain Underpants series just as much as I loved World War Won.

It sucks that these are gone. The rights of the Berenstain Bears got bought out by a Evangelical Christian company they completely rewrote the characters, and now we only get great titles like "Gods Loves You" and "The Berenstain Bears Go to Sunday School".

EDIT: They didn't get bought out. Turns out the son of the original authors found Jesus, and thought that the book characters his parents had left him the rights to would be the perfect pedestal to preach the love of his newfound religion.

Do you really want these glasses? They're just normal 12oz (maybe 16 oz, but 12 is a little more likely) plastic glasses except they're red. The same design is super common in buffets or cafeterias around the Northeast US (and almost certainly elsewhere), though they're usually either an amber or a clear color.

Here's a pack of 24 brand new ones for $35 on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Carlisle-550807-Pebble-Tumblers-8-Ounce/dp/B00NWUTXDU/ref=sr_1_75?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1483615800&sr=1-75&keywords=12%2Boz%2Btumbler&th=1

Play around with the descriptors (pebble, optic, etc) and you might find another virtually identical design from a different manufacturer for cheaper or a smaller quantity.

Something like that indeed. The reception varies. You'll need to find a radio station as far from other stations as possible for the best reception. That can change depending on where you are, so for long car drives it's best to have a passenger fix it. When you've found a good station the sound quality is actually really good. I own this one for reference

You can and there are a ton on Amazon. These are newer styles and I didn't see any of the originals. Just search on "scratch and sniff stickers" in Amazon to see more.

You could probably find vintage ones by searching on Google, but might be costly and may have lost their scent.

Good luck!

Edit: FOUND THEM ON ETSY!!! 😃😃😃

Peaceable Kingdom scratch and sniff are the best ones I have found. These but If you prefer amazon, I’m sure these have the same strong smell. There are a couple funky scents which are also fun to give students.

You HAVE to watch this movie for sure. It has some great effects, an amazing soundtrack, and great actors.

The ending is hit or miss with some and it is a very dark story (especially by Disney's standards).

I know you can rent it digitally on Amazon for sure. Not sure where else. https://www.amazon.com/Black-Hole-Joseph-Bottoms/dp/B003V40SGS

I love sour candy, it's pretty much the only sweets I eat. If you can find these anywhere definitely give them a try. They are long tubular gum strips with the sour in the middle and you can break off a piece as big as you want. Definitely the most sour I've had.

Bonus trivia: Each show's "Secret Ingredient" wasn't really all that secret - the chefs were all given a list beforehand of four or five possible ingredients, and the "secret" one would be from that list. That's how the chefs could all quickly come up with several dishes they could make so quickly, they had days to work it out beforehand.

If you really love the original show you might want to check out this book (on Amazon) - it's a translation of the Japanese guide to the show. And it has a crapload of stats about which were the most winning chefs and so forth.

these are what I use. There's been a couple duds in there but for the most part they were awesome for framing and roughing things out. Comfy to use and the lead writes on almost anything pretty nicely.

Ah, but did you have the first one AND the second one?

Those books are the shit. Secrets of the Gnomes even had full torso nude paintings of some hot-ass river ladies. Best kids book ever!

Yes, but they ruined them. Well the farm, at least. Don't know about the rest. It used to be a beautiful barn with such neat artwork with hidden little things in it, and now it's just a mass of plastic with no charm at all.

Stanley/ Bostitch make basically this exact model. I bought one for home for my kids. It was a great decision.. I love sharpening with it and use a lot of pencils for notes.

You gotta go authentic when shopping for one, you want the counter-rotating grinders/blades like this one has.

https://www.amazon.ca/Bostitch-Antimicrobial-Sharpener-MPS1-BLK-Replacement/dp/B016P38IB8

The key is that the blades cut down the shaft towards the tip of the pencil, unlike the sharpeners with a single razor blade that plug up, gouge, and split your nice pencils.

Also, Arnold Lobel (the author and illustrator of Frog & Toad) has a small book with seven tiny stories called Mouse Tales that is also worth getting. Although it’s not as great as the sweet friendship of Toad and Frog, it has a few silly stories that children enjoy. (My favorite of which is called The Journey (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9WjbTMEy1kg)

You CAN find a version of some of these sets that are not the limited edition tin box sets. Search for Walt Disney Ultimate Treasure Chest. From what I've seen, it's about $275 for 7 DVD sets (14 DVDs). That equals out to about the same price they were individually in retail ($40 each).

The tin box sets (which is what I'm after/have almost all of) very hard to acquire these days - the sets came out from 2001 to 2008. I have the first 8 waves. I'm only missing the final wave now, which is Zorro season 1 and 2.

I am an animation graduate and animation history buff, so I was in love with the idea of the sets. They were created and hosted by Leonard Maltin, who gives you a quick synopsis as to what to expect on each one, putting some things into context if needed. There are interviews with the current voice actors (in the case of main character sets like Goofy), and a ton of bonus footage not seen in 40-50 years otherwise.

These are awesome - you can still put them to work. I have like ...many...it's embarassing.

Get the flash light, get these or something similar (3 volts = 2 AA, C, D or AAA batteries ((or it's close enough for rock and roll))) and you're in business. If you have an older flashlight with the screw mount bulbs you need these, with the screw mounts.

If you get them in "Warm white" it has the nostalgia shitting krypton bulb color to em. If you get just a normal one it's that harsh but effective blue led white color.

I don't even know how old this flashlight is, but it's older than the two pictured. No plastic. The lens was held in with some sort of grout. It's awesome. Brass body with chrome over the top of it... two D batteries provide the LED with about 2 million years or so of power... I figure it's probably from the bronze age given the brass work.

Check it out.

For those interested, this is available on Amazon. I bought some last year and was pleasantly surprised:

You can get them everywhere, not sure why this post..is a thing. I've been eating them pretty consistently over the years, they never went anywhere:
