Why not use and old school chess computer. It's still electronic but still much more like a board game. Something like (this board game for example.

"Habits of a Happy Brain" gets into the nuts & bolts of how our brains get wired, and how to re-wire them. Part one deals with the four "happy chemicals" that our brains produce (including Dopamine!), and the "sad" chemical Cortisol.

Anyway, if you want, check out the Look Inside Intro at that humongous bookstore.

For help with getting art done, I can't recommend The War of Art enough - https://smile.amazon.com/War-Art-Through-Creative-Battles/dp/1936891026/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=

Buy the paperback, not the digital version.

It completely changed how I viewed my work and I credit it for how much I've gotten done since discovering it.

I thought it was interesting. I do not remember it that well. Right now I'm questioning whether having dysphoric thoughts in the short term is actually a bad thing and whether having "epiphany" type moments without deep emotions is even that worthwhile. I want to know what happens more in the long term and there is a book written by a psychologist who has been writing books on therapeutic journaling and studying therapeutic journaling for something like 20 years that I will be taking a look at. I'm afraid I will have to send you the journal article I was referring to later today so you will have to wait.

This is the book I was talking about.

Hello! I consider myself a switching to dumbphone vet so I'll go ahead and answer some of your questions:

  1. As someone said write down the questions or call someone and ask. Just pretend everyone is a lifeline and you are a contestant on who wants to be a millionaire.

  2. Several smartphones can be de-internetted (like my $12 blackberry tour 9630) that have a decent to do list. If that fails, just create reminders on your dumbphone as todos.

  3. Do what they did 20 years ago. Buy a news paper =) If it's not worth 1 dollar to you it's prob not worth knowing.

  4. Do a search here for "guide to smart phones with no wifi" or something like that. You'll find the guide I created. Or just search my name here you'll find a lot of info on that sort of thing. In regards to bluetooth forget about it if you can't find something. Get a decent mp3 player and call it a day. Heres the one I bought a year ago in februrary: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VR5JHVK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's still rocking hard.

  5. I don't understand this question. Maybe photocopy pages and take them with you?

I just get mine off Amazon. I’m about ready for a reorder myself.

5-HTP

Maybe check out r/nootropics too. Plenty of people talking about it there and other supplements.

Buy a ksafe and lock your phone in it. Probably the easiest way to go about it for you.

I've deleted a lot of porn and reduced Facebook to once a week. I felt I was being a pussy as well but what planted the idea to be more assertive was reading a book called "unfuck yourself" It helped me begin the reduction of porn and social media.

For me, music is fine but ill be deleting my reddit account at the end of the year, i feel it can put me in a bad mood, I used to hit up a political sub (hence the username) but after realizing how unhappy I was, I reduced the reddit subs I looked at and my YouTube sub count from 100 to 10.

Small steps but I'm feeling more positive and happier.

Have you considered something like a Canon ELPH?

If you haven't already, read Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism. It might help you find a middle ground between NoSurf and "too-much surf" if you don't want to commit to NoSurf.

I asked myself the same question and decided to get something like this.

Mimics sunlight which isn't an annoying alarm or abrupt noise that wakes me up in annoyance.

Check out kenken. It's kind of like sodoku but requires you to do some basic math too.

Retro Casio watches are small and unobtrusive. Try https://www.amazon.com/Casio-F201WA-9A-Multi-Function-Alarm-Sports/dp/B002J4UBJA/ I frequently use the countdown timer to remind myself to get off the computer.

My suggestion is to not give a f#$k on what others say regarding such decisions.

It's something you will need to get used to!

Regarding your mother, I believe that you should buy her this book:

I can second what /u/greyrocks1 and /u/32486995 have commented already. Don't use the alarm clock on your smartphone. When I purchased a dedicated alarm clock it not only solved my problem of using my phone in bed at night after I set my alarm, it also prevented me from using it first thing in the morning because I no longer had to keep my phone directly next to my bed

I started with a simple sony alarm clock that I liked. It got the job done: Link

I've since upgraded to the Philips HF3520 and am loving it: Link

Yes, but usually Facebook instead of Reddit.

This book has been helpful for me. I’ve learned to face the uncomfortable feelings rather than avoid them. If depression/anxiety aren’t the things you’re dealing with there are other DBT books for other issues.
