I've got intelliarmor on mine and it is probably the best screen protector I've ever had for a device. As for case, I think it's up to personal preferences in part, but brand aside I highly recommend getting a case that the front is tri-fold to double as a stand. I personally have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Fintie-NVIDIA-SHIELD-Tablet-SmartShell/dp/B00MN98ATE but any case like that with good reviews should be fine, IMO.

The 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro+ controller is a good alternative.

The Shield controller will be getting a refresher soon in the rumor mill. It would be nice since I am really satisfied with the Shield controller.

I like the PS4 dpad more, giving it priority over an Xbox controller.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. You're saying you have a galaxy tab 3 but you're talking about a 5" screen. Do you mean you have the Galaxy S3 phone?

Do you want to connect your phone to your tablet and play your phone games on the tablet? If so, why not download the games on the tablet itself?

If that's not the case, do you mean you want to use your phone as a controller? There are apps for that too.

Lastly, do you want to connect your Samsung device to the TV just like you did with the shield tablet? If so you need a micro usb to hdmi mhl adapter like this.

Awesome thanks. Do the lights need to be SmartThing enabled, or can I just buy something that works with google assistant?

Looking at buying something like this.

AuviPal G9 Backlit Keyboard Remote Combo (5 Programmable Keys + QWERTY Keyboard + Air Mouse) for Nvidia Shield/Android TV Box, HTPC and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LD5DPNR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ul7BDb34QK487

I tried like 3 cheap remotes before this one and they all had issues with the back button. Either it not working on certain apps and on one of them not working at all.

This remote has been amazing and rechargeable battery seems to be great. Been a month now and still haven't needed to recharge it.

Also has 4 programablr ir buttons that I use for my TV and soundbar. Could not be happier.

Check this one out. Good price and good functionality. Works better than the Shield remote. Only issue is that it’s usb,

I would only get this to complete the Shield 4K I got 2nd hand that didn't come with one. Also, my current remote doesn't seem to let me sign in with Hulu (not even a keyboard).

I currently use this remote:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074W87CZ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_K.MGDbR487XWX

It works very well, and has a backlit QWERTY keyboard on the opposite side of it which is very helpful.

I have a Corsair K63 Lapboard that I love but doesn't get nearly enough use. They also have them at Micro Center if you have one nearby.

They use Cherry MX Red switches which are kind of a love it or hate it switch, from what I've read. I absolutely love them for gaming but found them unusable for regular typing.

Works great with my Harmony 650.

I have heard hit or miss things about pairing bluetooth controllers to android devices in general.

I know you are looking for a cheap solution, but here is what I use

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00E6553PW

That allows you to hook up a wii u pro controller. IMO the pro controller is one of the best on the market right now, plus you can't beat the 80 hour battery life.

Also grab one of these

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009YPYORM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1426861071&sr=8-1&keywords=otg+usb+with+power&dpPl=1&dpID=41%2BzgxysyJL&ref=plSrch&pi=AC_SY200_QL40

It lets you power the device while also using a usb controller or that adapter, which is almost needed for console mode.

I mean this one:
Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Q537Bb7CM8Z8D

Works great on my shield, Sony TV, PC, just about every game I've thrown at it. (Not thatmany, but still). I figured it the 360 one works well, the xb1 version should work well also.

u/kalehulk · 1 pointr/nvidiashield

I’d recommend getting an audio extractor, then you can take full advantage of bitstream audio from the shield. I used this device myself with my older receiver.

I have an rupio HDMI which they say could do ARC from over 25 feet (https://www.amazon.com/RUIPRO-Fiber-Cable-Support-Subsampling/dp/B06XGDFCSC) but it didnt work for me. It works and trasmits everything except ARC so I can't use my LG E7 netflix app to play audio since it won't travel back to the AVR (Denon X4300H). So to get Atmos AND Video I guess i need to use the Xbox. Nvidia shield will transmit the proper video signal but not atmos and my LG OLED TV will also play the video signal, but won't send back the Atmos audio to my AVR because the ARC doesn't work for my cable which is about 30 or 35 feet.

We've had an Anker 10-port (7 data, 3 charge) USB 3.0 hub since we purchased our first Shield Pro unit. Works great.

I just checked Amazon again after looking back for the past week, they'll have them stocked again on the 12th, hold off paying those high prices you see on eBay
