OP, the equipment (mouse + keyboard + hand rest) really matters. If you don't have a good mouse or keyboard and a hand rest you may want to really invest in these.
Also you can map your mouse buttons to the keyboard. Or you can map everything to your mouse if you decide to go that route. A good multi button mouse like the G600 (specifically meant for MMO gaming without using the KB much) can map all the keys needed for POE to the mouse. There are other mice you should look at, specifically look for a decent 5-7 button mouse. Gigabyte makes quite a good 5 button mouse you can get for like $20.
I HIGHLY recommend a good mouse pad and a wrist rest pad. I use this 3M wrist pad combined with a Steel Serise mouse pad. A good mouse pad makes a very noticeable difference in terms of how hard/easy it is to move the mouse.
If you are on a tight budget or want some benefits of SSD but want a larger drive, I recommend a hybrid drive. As files (or rather sectors I think) are being accessed more and more, the drive learns and puts those files onto a small SSD for faster loading. I have a 2TB hybrid and my POE load times are excellent.
SSD is definitely going to be better for speed, but on a budget this works great: https://www.seagate.com/solutions/solid-state-hybrid/
Newer model than mine. I've had mine for a couple years now and love it:

Welcome to the father's club. I'm one to. My daughter is 3 now, but I started way back when she wasn't even born.
What I did to play:
- Put the baby car seat on top of your desk, swing it, he/she will sleep, and you will play (while your wife sleeps). Usually you get 3 hours until next baby eating (this worked until 6 months). From my case the baby didn't sleep, so I played to make me stay awake, while my wife slept.
- From 6 months on the trick didn't do anymore, than it was time to improvise, here comes:
https://www.amazon.com/4moms-mamaRoo-Bluetooth-Enabled-high-tech-Swing/dp/B073FVCS6F/ref=sr_1_23?keywords=baby+swing&qid=1559134164&s=gateway&sr=8-23
This worked until 9
- From 9 on, she started sleeping 6 hours or more, than I started waking 5 am to play until 6:30 when she woke up
I basically do work, family, sleep and play.
The 3 months league is an awesome time if you play 1:30 per day. Of course you will never complete 36/40 challenges. But that never stopped the fun.
This. Even with overclocked TitanX's you will have FPS dips in PoE, it is just not able to utilize it well. That said, G-Sync excels in mid to low range fps dips.
They aren't cheap, but the 27" Acer XB270HU bprz with G-SYNC would be my strong suggestion. I run these personally, and love them.
edit: Just pre-ordered my rift a few minutes ago, will let you know in March. I have seen no notes about GGG making PoE rift compatible though (please correct me if I am wrong), and it does require custom coding. I would not put a lot of hope into this for PoE. It is not the type of game that benefits.
If you can't swing $30 on an SSD (this one is 240 GB, so it can easily hold windows AND many games on it) to vastly improve your quality of life in your hobby, then you have other problems, and you should probably be using your time gaming either working a part time job, extra hours at your main job, or going through your stuff selling what you don't need on ebay/craigslist. The example I found took all of 5 seconds to find, I'm SURE you could find a better deal or a cheaper one out there with a modicum of effort. SSDs have been VERY affordable ($50 or less) for 3-4 years now, and mainstream in gaming PCs for at least 7. Some people have been using them for over a decade. It's about as reasonable to expect developers to cater to PCs without SSDs as it would be to expect developers to make all their new games run flawlessly on a Playstation 2.
Having financial stresses when you can do something about it (and having the free time to play games means you CAN do something about it, even if you're disabled there's ways to earn money even online) is going to needlessly contribute to anxiety and depression. Here's some ideas if you need some:
Wow! Thanks so much everyone! Me and my guitarist / screamer friend are hard at work on this song!

If anyone wants to hear more metal that will eventually become PoE songs, you can listen here:

Thank you again! I am so excited to provide you all with free PoE metal music! :D
You can alleviate it with therapy. It's usually caused primarily by inflammation of the surrounding tissue, so stretching and promoting bloodflow to your hands helps.
I've found this to be extremely helpful for me. I think using it helps open up the channels in some way, either by increasing bloodflow to my hand or strengthening the muscles.
I'm not a doctor, just someone with RSI in one of my hands (ulnar nerve).
I recently build a PC for a friend, so I figured some stuff in terms of price-performance.
I went with the following:
Intel Core i5-7500 (3,8 Ghz) (CPU)
MSI B250M Pro-VDH (mATX) (motherboard)
Geforce GTX 1060 Phoenix (3GB GDDR5) (GPU)
8GB Crucial BallistX DDR4 (2400Mhz) (RAM)
525GB Crucial MX300 (SSD Harddrive)
550W Corsair Vengeance (80+ Bronze) (Power)
*Sharkoon VG4-W Midi Tower (USB3) (Tower)
All together you have around 900€.
If you plan to spend any more, you should focus on putting it into the GPU. If you plan on playing on 4k, you should get the 6GB GPU option too.
Overall I would say this should work out fine.
On another note, it wasn't easy to put all of this on the motherboard, since it is pretty small. It works fine, but there should be better options.
PS: The tower is also a minimum requirement. If you want something cool looking that comes in very handy and will last you for ages, check out this one (which I use myself):
Thermaltake Level 10 GT - Snow Edition
Another option is to get a multibutton mouse, and map those buttons. My friend has the flasks set up this way so he can flick through them quickly.
Personally I use this - http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G13-Programmable-Gameboard-Display/dp/B001NEK2GE
If you look closely you will see a joystick in the thumb area. I have that mapped to the flasks. I can quickly "spin" the joystick around to hit multiple flasks. I love having a G13 for all my games. It does take some time to get used to it, and a bit of time to set it up for each game.
Anyway, not trying to talk you out of your idea, just giving you some more options. Congrats on getting three characters to 90+ in one league.
IF you're ok with refurbished, this laptop is amazing. Got one for my ex-wife a while back. Runs games great and I managed to grab it on sale for $600 but if you're ok with refurbished then this is my best suggestion. Also a new is just under 800 so new may be an option
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DKFFFXO
You can already do that. It is easy. Buy one of the packs on Amazon:

200 points

Then take the code it generates and send that to the recipient. This can be applied to the account on the redeem code page. You are limited to the amounts you can buy, but if you can get a code from another source, that should work as well. Amazon has 200, 516, and 1065 point packs. This is not the same as granular point gifting, but it will work and I have done it once for a friend. I also learned about this from directly emailing GGG support asking about sending points.
It's hard to describe, so just try this. Make a ball of your fist, and rest your hand on its side on the desk. Now, extend your fingers.
Your ideal mouse and keyboard positions are as close to this as possible. I've been using this both at work and at home, and I've found it very comfortable. I haven't done anything overly click-intensive unless you count Minecraft. I also bought the Microsoft ergonomic keyboard. The only thing I have left to fix is my home desk chair, which doesn't give my arms proper support, and thus I end up putting more weight than I should on my wrists.
It's all about making the pathway from your shoulder to your fingers as smooth as possible for the muscles that control all that. Normal mice twist that muscle a bit, which can cause strain, especially when you're applying as much force as you typically are in an aRPG.
https://www.amazon.de/A4tech-Bloody-V8-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00F5HJZ5O
I use that one for more than an year now and it feels pretty good. It is cheap, not something Transformers look like, good grip as well.
So I bought this Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG laptop for $550 last year and have been playing PoE on it ever since. It's honestly been amazing. There are a few times when the FPS drops most noticeably in act 10 templar courts(?) and act 8 with the shield charge boss dude in the baths.
Other than those two horrible areas the game runs smooth at 60-70fps (in parties you drop down to 30 or so). I have the dynamic resolution slider set to 25 and it hardly ever goes off even in groups in beachhead maps. I think there is a slightly better Aspire version with more processing power for like 100bucks more if you want to search for a slight upgrade, but this laptop has been wonderful. Let me know if you have any specific questions about it.
I got this guy for my girlfriend to play with me:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DT4A2R4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The touchpad is a little crappy but other than that it's a cheap and effective laptop. Runs poe great and you can limit the fps with nvidia inspector and keep it at a solid 60fps.
My friend just got this and it's a world of difference between his last computer. The only difference between the two is the amazon one has twice the SSD and better resolution on the screen.
But it's still nothing compared to a desktop... which even my VR capable machine still gets frame rate drops. I'd say we get similar performance, and probably will stay that way until they refine the performance more.
You could bind it elsewhere. I'd also recommend a left-hand gamepad, if you're having issues with your left hand cramping up. I'm using a Belkin Nostromo Speedpad n52 from over a decade ago, and it still feels great. Stops my wrist from crapping out on me. I know Belkin and Razer are still developing them. Check one out.
800 dollars. Perfect laptop from specs. It has SSD for fast poe loading and 960m gtx is the best card cost/effective.
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-15-6-Inch-Quad-Core-i5-6300HQ-Processor/dp/B015PYYDMQ/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1464193288&sr=1-3&keywords=laptop
Any build.
If you're a disabled gamer, play to your handicap. you can realistically play ANY build, even one with excessive flask spam with 1 hand.
Some builds to try out for new players(with help from experienced players) are things like nghamu's cyclone, any cyclone, Righteous Fire, Glacial cascade, EK nova, almost any of Mathil's builds this league, etc.
Your friend should buy a mouse like this one:
Logitech G600 MMO Gaming Mouse, RGB Backlit, 20 Programmable Buttons (910-002864) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0086UK7IQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_b-8YBbNG8D3KS
It's got tons of buttons so you can do a lot with one hand. POE is mostly mouse controlled but some spells and your life/mana flasks are tied to keyboard buttons, I imagine something like this would help a lot not just for this game but many others.
Thanks for the feedback!
I’ll have to look into those two input devices! Links in case anyone is interested:
I bought this lower end gaming laptop last year to replace my old one so i could render something for my job. It plays poe pretty well when i am not playing on my main rig.
Dell 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop (6th Gen Intel Quad-Core i5-6300HQ Processor up to 3.2GHz, 8GB DDR3, 256GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M, Windows 10) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYYDMQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_2UUfzb0S9WGCN
I would say Pathfinder or Aurabot. If he has a mouse like this, than he can play everything, I would say https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Gaming-Backlit-Programmable-Buttons/dp/B0086UK7IQ
which do you think is better out of these 2? or are they the same?
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0146DD02G/ref=psdc_565108_t1_B015PYYDMQ
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYYDMQ/ref=psdc_565108_t1_B0146DD02G
get a mouse with a lot of buttons like
https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Gaming-Backlit-Programmable-Buttons/dp/B0086UK7IQ
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYYDMQ/ref=psdc_565108_t1_B0146DD02G
That one for sure.
I wish. I use a Nostromo 32 which fits the 5 flask / 5 spell thing very nicely. its helped over a keyboard. Thing just drives me crazy it has built in macro function and I could set up a flask macro in 30 seconds but they decide to ban that. I don't cuz I'd rather not get banned from my favorite game. It just feels stupid. I come from eve where they (against the rules) program mining bots so they can literally just leave their PC on while at work and come back home to tons of profit. Now I don't agree with that, I'm just saying automation is to the point the mining bot's can literally defend themsevles against the asteroid belt NPCS and everything.
But in Eve they allow multiboxing where you can have 20 damn accounts tied together. I guess technically, this would count as "1 key press" per action... Times Twenty... I dunno how GGG would see that, probably as totally unacceptable but. I dunno. Tech keeps advancing and they want us to not use something as a simple flask macro, just to make our fingers hurt apparently.
Right now I'm actually using a rotgut in flask 1 and Withered step in skill 1 to zoom across maps, so I guess if I was i'd have to break a popsicle stick in half anyway XD
Edit: for anyone interested this is the gamepad I use https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F8GFPC100-Nostromo-Speedpad-n52/dp/B0000DC643/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=nostromo+32&qid=1568371343&s=gateway&sr=8-1 . Bought it years ago for funs sake. But I only started using regularly with POE. it really does feel better then a keyboard. Just sucks having to switch over to type for trade and chatting stuff.
I use this laptop with a 2nd monitor playing windowed fullscreen. I get ~40-60 fps except on burning ground and it drops to ~20. Shocking and chilling is better in the high 20s-low 30s. I can stream 480p or lower on Twitch while playing and get fps in the high 20s. Not the smoothest gameplay, but not that it matters if I'm watching a stream at the same time anyway.
Logitech G13, baby!
