Thanks for your post.

I have access to the Christmas special, the timing is apt, etc., so would it be terrible if I waited on the strips and start with "A Charlie Brown Christmas"? For some reason, despite hardly ever considering "Peanuts" in my entire life, I suddenly got curious and would like to fit this into my holiday viewing.

As for the strips, would this be good?. It's 1965-66.

I'm also seeing 1967-70. Or is there another specific instalment that is commonly recommended as the best entry point?

A lot depends on what she already has/doesn't have in her Peanuts collection but I think:

This is a beautiful book for the ultimate Peanuts fan. This book is also a nice gem for collectors

And of course A Charlie Brown Christmas is always a nice stocking stuffer

And if she hasn't seen it yet, take her out to see the new Peanuts movie!

Yes, but 'reprint' meaning 'reprinted from the newspapers which is where they were originally published, as you'd know.

Bit confusing now you point it out, because 'reprint' can also mean 'more copies of a book', and that's what I meant when I said 'they were all reprinted heavily at the time'. The publisher would distribute batches of a book that sell out before printing another batch the following years on. A specific kind of reprint, an 'international reprint', mean that a batch or further batches or books are printed by a separate publisher in another country who are licensed by the original publisher to do so.

In fact, I'm sure some immensely popular collections such as the 1956 'Good Grief, More Peanuts' are still reprinted to this day by publishers who have inherited the rights to do so. Much of the same cover and contents, all reprinted as recently as 2015.

I hope I made that clear.

The Music and Heroes of America

I think that might be the one you're looking for. Rerun is playing a guitar and Charlie brown is playing harmonica on the cover.

If you're a fan of cartooning and/or history, Bill Mauldin's book "Up Front" is a must-read. Well-written, and full of classic "Willie and Joe" cartoons.

Schulz was a WWII vet - I wonder if he and Mauldin were actually friends?

I'm talking about the boxed set. It's the 1999-2000 volume, plus an additional "Comics & Stories" volume.
