Listening

In your car or your home, if you have bluetooth/airplay (or whatever the android equivalent is if that's your thing) already, just pair your phone, select your audio output source and begin playing from LivePhish (SBD - Paid) or PhishOD (AUD - Free).

If you have an AUX jack in your car, but no bluetooth, you can get something like this that plugs into your AUX jack and gives you bluetooth.
https://www.amazon.com/iClever-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Multi-Point-Activation/dp/B00GJFGE0K/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1469204334&sr=8-8&keywords=car+bluetooth+adapter

Some portable devices and bluetooth dongles support different types of bluetooth streaming, ABTx vs A2DP, ABTx is the better choice as the standard claims to be lossless equivalent, but A2DP will work fine.

Where to get it

• If you are looking for SBD's to physically download and store on your Phone/Tablet/Computer for playback, then LivePhish.com is the paid way to go. Otherwise basically you want to look into torrents but that's not legal and I wouldn't necessarily advocate that.

• If you decide you want good quality AUD recordings (IMO they capture the magic in the room much better) then you can torrent those at http://bt.etree.org, which is for sharing legal live tapes. For example, Chris King's Schoeps MK21 (a type of mic) recordings from BGCA are pretty good. I had to EQ them a tad to dial down the boomy sound inside BGCA, but good none the less.

As you explore audience recordings, you can look for what mics your ears like the best. I'm a fan of Schoeps and AKG pulls typically.

Audio Formats

You seem like you may be a bit new to this stuff (forgive me if I'm wrong) so one thing to keep in mind is lossless audio (FLAC/Apple Lossless M4A/SHN/AIFF/WAV files) vs lossy audio (MP3/AAC/OGG). The lossless stuff sounds more "true" to how it was played whereas the lossy stuff doesn't retain all the fine detail and generally has noticeably more audio artifacts or a wishy washy sound to it. Lossless stuff comes in 2 flavors, 16-bit (essentially CD quality audio) and 24-bit, which is said to have even more fine detail but IMO only really matters with good audio equipment.

When you get a free show from LivePhish.com as a result of your ticket code, then you get a, lossy, 256 kbps MP3 file, why they don't give 320, I don't understand (320 is the highest bitrate MP3 can have). To my ears there's a noticeable difference between 256 and 320. Less so between 320 and a lossless FLAC/AppleLossless file, but if you're doing headphones listening, the FLAC is worth having. I rock all lossless even in the car just because.

If you have more questions feel free to PM me.

EDIT: Added more detail

Buy a pack of [these] (http://www.amazon.com/LumiStick-Brand-Glowsticks-Bracelets-Colors/dp/B000IZ9N78) and you will fit right in. I've been to 7 shows so far and I've never had an issue with cops. Everything is available, just watch everyone else and you'll knkw when it's the right time to buy or smoke. Don't be off by yourself doing something illegal and you're fine. Hide your weed when you walk in but honestly they barely check l. I bring multiple flasks in every time as well and never have a problem by putting in my pants.

I have had floor seats at every show I've been too. They're amazing and the experience is hard to beat. Being int he stands will be great but its a different experience than being right up in it. There is energy out there that's just awesome. Your dad will love it. We brought my friends parents to Randall's island and they were huge Dead fans. They loved the show so much they're coming to Miami with us. Have fun man. You're gonna be blown away.

Got into Dave Matthews Band senior year of high school, started road tripping to more jammy live shows in general with my friends.

Friends start listening to band Phish, too weird for me.

In an effort to get me to go along, they played me Dub Like an Antelope (great reggae covers of some hits). It was enough to make me like the really popular songs, and on a whim a friend asked me to road trip through 3 states to see Phish play Alpine Valley in 2010.

We did, had an amazing experience, they turned it into a DVD, and I've never looked back.

EDIT: added correct album name with link.

Oh holy god... the blurb from her book

"From the first moment that Ben sees Laura, she seems too good to be true. Stunning, elegant, adventurous, and intolerably charming, she is everything that he wants in a woman. She even shares his passion for Bruce Springsteen's music. And before he even realizes that it's happened, Ben has turned his whole life upside down to follow Bruce around the country with her. Laura fascinates him because everything about her is a contradiction. She never lies, but she never quite tells the truth either. She's wildly outspoken and passionate, yet smoothly changes the subject whenever she is asked a direct question about herself. She manages to intrigue and infuriate, attract and repel, charm and disarm Ben at every turn. Yet there's something sweet beneath her flippant exterior; something that Ben realizes that only he is allowed to see. And no matter how much he tries to stay away, he is unable to resist her. But Laura has secrets that threaten to destroy their unlikely friendship. She is wealthy, yet unemployed. She has no family, and she seems to have almost no past, except for an older man whose relationship to her Ben cannot figure out. And she claims that she doesn't believe in love. When the tour ends, Ben knows that he wants more from his relationship with Laura. But he doesn't know what Laura wants. And neither does she."

Gag me with a fucking spoon.

It was the helping friendly book. I made friends with the guy who had it and the rail riders allowed him to come to the front at the start of the show to toss it to the band. I believe I saw Page pick it up after they finished the a capella number. We were really excited about it.

Edit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1439264546/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1483320720&sr=8-8&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=well+can+you+imagine&dpPl=1&dpID=519AJHddxIL&ref=plSrch

Page and Trey on the cover, as well as a lizard and a mockingbird. Mike is in the book, there is a poem about "it" and a page teaching how to sing in layered parts like Bouncing Around the Room. Also published in 1983.

Edit 2: Skippy the Wonder mouse on the cover too

You ABSOLUTELY should wear earplugs. It is horrible advice and negligent to not take care of your ears at a rock show.

There are cheap options online that will save you from Tinnitus. I have custom earplugs, and have been to a few hundred shows, Phish being a majority, but the only way to have a lifetime of music enjoyment is to take care of your ears.

Take care of your shoes too.

PM Sent. Will these work?

.mp3 - Toshiba Canvio Basics 1 TB portable HDD - Black for $49.99 (listed as their "#1 best seller" for that size).

.FLAC - Toshiba Canvio Basics 2 TB portable HDD - White for $72.99. (The black version is $8.00 more.)

Both drives are Prime eligible.

(I linked to smile .amazon.com and hopefully you will too! That way a portion of your purchase goes to your favorite charity. Personally, I donate to the ASPCA with every Amazon purchase I make.)

Just an FYI, those wax earplugs are generally for water protection, not sound protection. They don't have the proper decibel ratings to protect eardrums.

You really should get some foam plugs, rubber "plunger" plugs, or since she's such a rockstar, some custom-fitted plastic earplugs. Custom-fitted are cool because they're comfortable, and you can let her pick colors or designs (Fishman donuts!) so she can be stylish on the lot.

If you don't go custom-fit, the next best option is Etymotic ER20 earplugs. They are designed to lower the decibel ratings, but they maintain sound profile and don't muffle anything so you still get the full experience. You can also leave them in and hold a conversation in between the songs. They're the best earplug for a concert situation, imo.

i think the best part of it is that she's a published author... here's one of her books... which is about her and her dude following springsteen tour. bwhahahhahahahaa...

if you wanna have some fun write up some reviews for her book.

Hey, it's me, the guy with the RV, the one about to walk past the screen like an asshole.

I have 2 phone services, Verizon and TMobile. I work full-time remote so internet is #1 priority.

With 4G "LTE", I got between 30mb/s and 120mb/s depending on the topography at that location.

I think there was some kind of issue with NYC having a blackout and possible some CDN or whatever issues that might have caused during 1st set, but 2nd set worked on 1080p without any issue. I couldn't get the live stream to work on any device while it was down.

I bought a small projector so I didn't have to get my big one from storage, but it's this one:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J4MPDXV/

and this screen:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FB6VW1M/

I picked that projector because it's teeny tiny, like the size of a medium tablet in terms of LxW. The price was too similar to other brands that had only 2400 lumens vs this one's supposed 3200. It's not HD or anything and pales in comparison to a real projector but for the price and the fact it barely used any power while running on battery powered inverter, it's totally worth it for travel. Even comes in a carrying carse.

We ran the show off a small generator at first, but after quiet hours, I switched over to a small portable Lithium inverter, which has a fast enough switch over that it doesn't shut down the projector. Even after like 2 hours, the battery didn't even go down 2% from running the projector.

Hadn't seen the paperback cover design before - it's far better than the hardcover design for the same book.

I too was given this as a gift, but never really gave it a fair shot - maybe having already read The Phish Book by Richard Gehr and the band and also The Phishing Manual by Dean Budnick, what I saw retread a bunch of what I had already read before, and the writing didn't exactly impress. (I highly recommend the first book, by the way)

Maybe I should give it another shot to see what it says about 2.0 and the dawn of 3.0. The books I linked came out in '99 and '96, so there's a good bit of history not covered by those. But I think when I tried reading those in Puterbaugh's book I felt I already had an understanding of those events just because I was paying close attention to the band during those times.

u/beepboopblorp · 3 pointsr/phish

Honestly, everyone one of us should have proper hearing protection for EVERY SHOW YOU GO TO. A pair of these will do fine, and they make everything quieter, but not muffled like cheaper foam plugs.

The day you start using plugs at shows is the best you're going to hear for the rest of your life. Start protecting your ears now.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075CZ9G11/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Might need some small gauge wire although not needed.

I think power supply came with a DC Power Connector you will need one. 6.00 for a couple of them.

https://www.amazon.com/Chanzon-Connector-Female-Security-Adapter/dp/B079R9WCG2/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1539355038&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=DC+Power+Connector&psc=1

Place the power supply and reciever in a plastic or weather proof container if you intend to use outdoors. I drll 2 holes in each side. One hole for power cable going in container to strip, the other hole for 1/8 min and led strip power going out of container. I use hot glue gun to seal the holes.

Here is a great tutorial video from strip company. the above is for 5v 10amp strip.

I remember thinking that The Phishing Manual was pretty good back in the day, though it's probably been eclipsed by others by now?

u/PageSideRageSide · 1 pointr/phish

Helping Friendly Book. Although he would probably want you to buy Mike's Corner: Daunting Literary Snippets http://www.amazon.com/dp/0821223895/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_awdm_N8Skub1E67SHX

u/navajow · 3 pointsr/phish

you need some real earplugs. I started using these now and its amazing. You can't hear a soul but the band sounds just the same (abit quieter but like normal headphone listening levels)

I think it's really cool that Trey meditates on how it's not about him, and he recognizes the interwoven stories of each person who arrived at the show. The coincidences and sequence of events everybody is experiencing is one of the special things about a Phish show for me. I wrote a book about it.

u/AdamCohn · 3 pointsr/phish

#1, get the ADA seating; you'll surely have a good view and no one bumping you. #2, I saw a guy at the Gorge this summer with one of these, and he said it made the whole Gorge experience possible; using a scooter was impossible out there. https://www.amazon.com/iWALK2-0-Hands-Free-Knee-Crutch/dp/B00092RB06

I use these. They're comfortable and don't take the bass out. I didn't use them for SBB2, but did for the Forum. GA both nights.
