The best option would be a 1TB SSD. The change is pretty easy and the loading times are significantly better. Wait for Cyber Monday on Amazon for good offers. But search for SSD compatibility (Google) just to be sure.

EDIT: I got this one: SanDisk Ultra 3D SSD 1 TB, lesen mit bis zu 560 MB/Sek., schreiben mit bis zu 530 MB/Sek. https://www.amazon.de/dp/B071KGRXRG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_0M.6BbVB8G7T1

HDMI Optical Converter Amazon

I know it was kind of a jerk answer but he wasn't wrong about Googling it. First result was this one on Amazon and the great reviews, many say works as a solution to their PS4. My Astro headphones need an optical too (likely what you have), they plug in via USB for chat and accept the optical as the surround sound audio. Seems like it should work for your case.

PS: this is why I opted to upgrade to the Pro, needed the optical port.

i have these they are not great, but for $10 they are perfectly serviceable.

the official wireless gold headsets are fine but they are pricey at ~$70

This is the best rated over ear headphones on Amazon for only $20 https://www.amazon.com/Edal-Headset-Headphone-Microphone-Adapter/dp/B01MTK7C4U/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&qid=1487764809&sr=8-30&keywords=ps4+headset

How the two people below can even conceivably think that there is a variation in stability and safety for electronic devices on a UPS is just unfounded knowledge.

YES OP. You can use a UPS such as this in your situation. Obviously the "safety" regarding your electronics varies on the actual UPS-model/make just like any other product.

A UPS is supposed to regulate your power, provide backup power in case of a power outage, and also act as a surge protector. READ what your UPS can do when you're buying it, they all have different level of protection and make sure to buy accordingly.

And to add a UPS is generally used as a back-up power supply so you have time to properly shut down your devices and unless you're buying an extremely high capacity UPS; you probably won't have much time to play for hours one end like a giant generator (Conceivably, again depends on the UPS) I.E. the ups would have to power both your console and tv to "run" and generally unless you have a LED tv, they eat up alot of watts = powers out quickly.

TLDR: Yes you can use a UPS with ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICE. But remember UPS is for temporary short-term backup power, don't expect it to power your stuff for hours on end.

She's on the right path ... I can't wear traditional gaming headsets either (though not due to glasses), so I go with the earbud method as well. And yeah - the headset earbud that comes with the PS4 is fucking atrocious. I play a couple different shooters online (and D3), and this is what I run with (coming from the background of a music junkie).

SkullCandy Smokin' Buds 2 ... they are discontinued, replaced by the Strum. That's a quality set of ear buds for <$50.

The issue I ran into, though, is the fact that the mic is now always on. That's a pain in the ass in a shooter, especially in something like The Division (or when your wife likes to talk to you while gaming, as mine does). So, I found these ... they are surprisingly lightweight, and don't throw the balance of my controllers off at all. It has a mic mute switch and volume control built into the adapter. I quickly found it was easy to flip the mic off and on with my thumb, without any gameplay interruptions.

Good luck!

The DualShock 4 works with the PS3 but it's super wonky. For instance, the PS button has zero functionality. You can't just hit it and choose "Quit Game" to go back to the menu. Also, you have to play wired. The DS4 does not wirelessly communicate with the PS3. If your primary issue with the DS3 is that it's a bit small I'd suggest picking up the officially licensed controller from PowerA. It's still wired only but every button functions correctly and it's only like $20.

Edit: This is the controller I'm talking about. I forgot it's sticks are even offset like a 360 controller. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01LB4KGU2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1510852176&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=powera+ps3+controller

That's actually 110% fine, and you've actually given me an affordable solution to my problem, seeing as my primary problem is the inability to adjust chat and game volume via remote. It is hard to hear my friends voices in some games, and so I have been adjusting the in-game volume down, which is kind of a nuisance. I may lose the functionality of microphone-muting because the headset itself doesn't have a built-in switch, but that is a-ok.

The $100 MixAmp also does not have a built-in microphone mute switch, so I'd rather get the SilverAmp because of cost. Also, the PS4 amps/sound cards have that system application to adjust sound profiles, which is a neat addition that I would be able to utilize by using the 1st party remote.

I don't really know who to be frustrated with. Either Sony's lack of support for the HyperX sound card, or with the HyperX Cloud II itself. The quality of the damned headset blows my mind; I use it at school, work, and at home. It was advertised to work with PS4, but in reality, HyperX's solution is to avoid the card entirely and plug into the controller. I don't know if Sony could possibly patch 3rd party support in the future?

Thank you for doing so much legwork in the testing, I really appreciate it, and I will most likely be purchasing the Silver set/amp. I expect that the SilverAmp should work, but when I do end up purchasing the set (probably next paycheck), I will update this thread with full explanation up top for Googlers.

tl;dr

the SilverAmp that comes with the PS Silver Headset provides game and chat volume control (link); the MixAmp (link) does the exact same thing for more $$$. Neither have microphone mute switches.

For the love of sweet, buttery Jesus, wash your hands before you game, and use these to clean your controller without risking fucking them up...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014EVXZ9S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_93nPzbP40G37S

Unlike typical Purell wipes, these dry super quick and get rid of any residue from sweaty, greasy-ass hands instantly. I use them on all of my electronics.

Yeah. My only guess would be it's something with either the hard drive or the graphics card.

The hard drive can be swapped for about $44 but I can't guarantee that it'll work so it's a bit if a gamble. Here are some instructions on how to swap the drive and here is a good drive to replace it with.

If it is the graphics card, then the PS3 is basically bricked.

Like I said, if you want, you can try the hard drive swap but depending on your budget, you might as well just look at finding another PS3.

I used to have a Original Fat PS3 but it overheated on me and the motherboard warped (don't play in a thunderstorm without a surge protector). I really prefer the 2nd gen slim so if you decide to get a new one, try to find a slim. Not a super-slim though.

Edit: Switched the hard drive swap article to a better one

My PlayStation 3 is irreplaceable. The PS4 still lacks many of the media features the PS3 has natively (which is crazy). And just this week I've played AC:Rogue, GT6, Stick of Truth, UMvC 3, and TTT 2 on my PS3. So, it gets a lot of use.

At this point, I think the best PS3 setup to have is a super-slim model (smallest, most quiet) with this HDD swapped in:

Honestly though, Fallout and Elder Scrolls are night-vs-day better on PC.

A used G27 is in your budget range

[The G29 is a tad above your budget and the shifter is sold seperately.] (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Driving-Force-Wheel-941-000110/dp/B00Z0UWWYC/ref=pd_sim_147_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=41W5xAz9tML&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=048N183R0CFFT6E365VZ)

Games recommended: The Crew and/or Driveclub. Honestly, if you want a very good racing set for realistic racing, prepare to save up some money. It's better to buy one very good product instead of multiple crappy ones because they keep breaking down etc.

[Skullcandy Method Earbuds](Skullcandy Method Sweat Resistant Sport Earbud with In-Line Microphone and Remote, Lightweight and Secure In-Ear Fit for Running and Exercise, Cable Management Clip for Workouts, Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NTR5GBO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_mctZAbPRD9S9B) are reasonably priced, sweat resistant earbuds. Have had no complaints about the mic audio from my friends I play with. Earbud sound is pretty great too.

u/IRULE010 · 1 pointr/playstation

They work well!

My router is downstairs and my playstation is upstairs (different rings) and both adapters are plugged into extension leads (so about as complex a setup as you can go really) - still works great.

These are the ones I use, but I'm sure any well reviewed ones will do fine; TP Link are usually at the top of Amazon's search.

u/Darkarcher117 · 1 pointr/playstation

This little sucker has done the job for me. It uses a wall plug, but it converts the rca video into VGA for you , assuming your monitor supports VGA. Obviously you'll have to deal with the audio separately, I just got a cable that converts the rca to 3.5mm (headphones) and plug it into my subwoofer in place of my PC's audio. Good luck!

u/LukeLC · 2 pointsr/playstation

Playstation Camera, two Move controllers, and games that support them. The last bit is where you'll run into issues, as really there aren't any. PSVR will use them, Dreams will use them, and LittleBigPlanet 3 has limited uses for them, but other than that I honestly can't think of anything.

EDIT: And in case you're wondering, you do NOT need this.

u/Timid-Spook · 1 pointr/playstation

No problem. Well, I'm using a 2 terabyte Western Digital Elements Portable HDD. The thing fits in the palm of your hand, is USB 3.0, and works well with the PS4.

It’s controller from PS move generation called “PlayStation Move Navigation Controller”. I bet you can buy them everywhere. Here’s amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Move-Navigation-Controller-3/dp/B002I0K6X6
