So first, your closet is really great for a beginner! Love everything you have listed, and personally, I think the stock photos sized with instafit that you’re using look great :) very visually appealing!

However, while as a buyer I love when the stock photo in included, personally I only buy when the person includes a clear picture of the front + back of the item. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just a simple picture with natural daylight up against a plain wall, or a closet door if you have a cute one.

Also, as a seller, I’ve found you can get really nice, professional looking backdrops just by searching “photo shoot backdrop” or similar on amazon.

I got this one from amazon for about $9, and that + nice natural daylight and maybe a flower or a couple seashells for decoration has resulted in my items selling more often and for a higher value. You can remove any wrinkles from shipping folding with a hairdryer, and it’s probably the best $9 I’ve ever spent :)

But yeah your closet content is top notch, and I wish you all the best in selling!

Your presentation needs work:

  • I see a lot of photos of items on your bed and some of items on top of USPS boxes—stop doing this. Have a consistent background for all of your photos, and make sure you take photos in a well-lit area.
  • Put more thought into your photos to show the true value. You can neatly hang up items on a white wall or use a huge white posterboard (or a clean, white rug like this one ) as a background for items that you want to lay flat.
  • Add more details to your descriptions. State the condition (for ex. used and in excellent condition, used with a small hole, etc.). Add keywords that people would type if they were searching for your specific item.
  • Make sure your items are clean when you post them. Wash clothes, use a lint roller if necessary, clean shoes to the best of your ability, etc.
  • Share your closet at least 4 times a day.
  • When in doubt, ask yourself if you would buy your item. If the answer is no, figure out what needs to be better (photos, descriptions, etc.) and make changes.

I've done some experimenting, trying things out for my etsy store more than Poshmark, and although I've happily settled on clear bag closed with a thank-you sticker for Poshmark/eBay clothes, I did like the look of using brown craft paper tied with rough twine (a roll of the paper and the twine can both be found at the dollar store). The paper made such nice creases! Tissue paper foils my best efforts and winds up looking like I am using my trash for wrapping paper.

During my last move, I had those big paper sheets for wrapping glasses, fragiles, etc. Like these: https://www.amazon.com/Packing-Paper-Large-Bundle-White/dp/B00MR7VY2W

I know I didn't pay more than $10 at Walmart, and while I was packing whenever I sold something I was just grabbing those to wrap around the item and it was GREAT. So much more substantial than tissue paper or even nice gift wrap.

I feel the lure of those adorable polymailers but until/unless this sales drought ends, I'm not ordering them. I do use white polymailers now and always scrawl a message on the outside using silver sharpie (or whatever color sharpie I come across when all the silver ones have vanished). I am exactly the kind of person who would sit around and doodle drawings all over polymailers to keep my hands busy while watching a movie or something, and if I ever get to a place in my life again where I don't have a stack of things that need my hands at all times, I will probably DIY a bunch of them one night :)

Thank You cards: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4OUNKB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Mailers: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074JL8H2H?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

They don’t really match but I’ve received a ton of love notes from buyers who love my packaging. :)

I have a small closet. Right now I have 100 listings and I’m trying to work my way up to 150, so this is just works best for me.

  1. Storage Boxes These are the storage boxes I use. I like them because I can color code. I do one color each for: women, men, accessories, and shoes.

  2. Storage Bags I use these bags to store each article of clothing in. I don’t use the twist ties, I just use a piece of scotch tape (2 for $1 rolls at Dollar Tree) to seal it. You can buy self-sealing plastic bags on Amazon and upaknship (where I get my polymailers). I buy cheap bags because it’s what I send the item in. I’ve also seen resellers on instagram use nicer bags or even just gallon ziplock bags that they number and reuse after the item sells.

  3. XL Storage Bags I get these from Dollar Tree for larger items (purses, denim jackets, etc). They are jumbo/2.5 gallon size.

  4. Inventory Stickers I don’t use these, but I’ve seen them recommended by resellers on instagram. You can also just get Avery labels and hand write the number/letter combo on each. You can give each box a letter then each item a number (i.e. box A, items A001, A002, etc.)

  5. Garment Rack I just got mine this week to add to the mix. I have about 30 items on it right now and no problems with weight distribution or anything. If you get a garment rack make sure it has wheels!!!

Hope this helps. Many resellers have Instagram posts/YouTube videos about their systems that will be better for you if you have a larger closet. This is just works for me.

I have this one from Amazon and LOVE IT!
I received as a Christmas Gift last year and it still works perfectly! Best part is no batteries to replace!!!

I don't think it's really necessary to use padded mailers for most clothing. I use these polymailers and buy bulk tissue paper from eBay or Amazon. You can buy cuter, printed polymailers if you care about package appearance a lot, but they're more expensive. I fold the item and use a light blue tissue paper to wrap it, then use colorful paper for thank you notes to make it look nice since those are inexpensive. Also stickers from the dollar store to make it cuter at a low cost.

The polymailers like the ones I linked are also a lot easier to slip into a USPS drop box since they aren't as bulky as padded mailers and far less expensive.

I bought her about a month ago. Greatly improved my pics and I'm thinking about getting one for plus sized items. My only issue is that her description says it fits items sized 5-10 but honestly, I have to pin sized M clothing or it looks like she's swimming in them. But overall I'm very happy.

Your closet looks like it has a lot of nice items! I will echo other posters in saying that you might want to look into a solid color background. Use flat lays for bottoms and maybe invest in a dress form for your other items (tops, dresses, skirts, etc.). Otherwise, hanging items for photos will also look nice!

Here is an inexpensive dress form I recently purchased on Amazon (will be taking photos on mine when I am back from vacation): Bonnlo Female Dress Form Pinnable Mannequin Body Torso with Wooden Tripod Base Stand https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072VHZJBX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Q3frDbT0EH9Z0

My Poshmark handle is the same as my UN here! Happy Poshing!

This is an extreme solution, you probably wouldn't do for a one off item but if you're trying to refurb stuff that smells like smoke to sell it can pay for itself.

Purchase a shock ozone treatment device like this: Ozone Generator

Enclose in large storage container. Hole in side for power. Seal with plumbers putty. Seal lid with weather stripping gasket. Run for about 30 minutes.

Works wonders pulling smells out of about anything.

Would suggest further research before you go this route but it's a pretty effective solution.

You have a unique closet with lots of great valuable pieces. It's worth it for you to invest in some equipment. Lightweight box and dress form would drastically improve your photos and presentation. You can purchase both for $100 on Amazon.

For your jewelry, I'd buy neutral color jewelry display stands. Personally black doesn't photo well.

I'll do some digging around and edit with links to what example of what I'm talking about. Keep in mind, after you finish selling your stuff (if Poshmark hasnt become habit forming) and if youre done with Poshmark you can always sell your equipment on Ebay. You have high-end unique items that will sell, and professional equipment will speed up the process.

I order the priority boxes for free from USPS.

Tissue paper and random ribbon's I've found from around the house for wrapping. Once I run out of my ribbon, I might look into my stationary supplies for random stickers/washi tape. I don't bother with thank you cards and as far as I can tell, it hasn't affected my ratings at all.

I reuse the plastic bags from online orders and stuff. Instead of throwing them away, I stash them in a drawer and pull one out when I need it. If I don't have one on hand, I'll use an old grocery bag instead.

From Amazon, not my exact items, but similar:

I use Posh pretty much exclusively to clear out my own closet so I don't have the need or space for professional set ups or anything. However I have a few high end dresses that just have NO hanger appeal at all so I bought this one from amazon for cheap. I have two doors facing each other so I'll string something between them and suspend it from that. Definitely had to get a little creative in a small rental apartment (especially since I did not want some dress form in the corner of my room creeping me out at night!) It really does depend on what you're selling. For many of the things I've purchased I find I'm happy with a stock photo to show the fit as long as item photos are included for condition

I use this torso form for tops, dresses, jackets, etc: https://www.onlyhangers.com/hanging-forms/516-ladies-plus-size-hanging-torso-form.html

And these pant hangers for pants, jeans and skirts: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077SGP6TJ/

Highly recommend both items. They're pretty inexpensive and make things look a lot better. If you have a 3X+ top/dress you might need to pin it a little bit but I don't. I have belted a sheath dress before though and that made a huge difference in how nice it looked.
